Hi,

I am joining the rest of you with these annoying heart palps. I had a total hysterectomy due to uterine cancer 2 yrs. ago. I never had any menopausal symptoms...until now. I've lost a good bit of weight, almost 40 lbs..yeah for me smile.gif, but with this loss I have depeted my estrogen in my fat cells and am now left with some meno symptoms...mainly these heart palps and some anxiety.

Two weeks ago I had an echocardigram, 24 hour holter monitor, and nuclear stress test. All came back normal.

I get these palps for a day or two and then they go away for a few days..back and forth, but when I get them it drives me nuts.

Is there anything I can do to naturally stop them? I am not taking HRT and will not. I will just suffer through. I can't take HRT because of having the uterine cancer, which was estrogen fed, so no hrt for me. I have heard to cough to stop them and it does help momentarily, but they always return. Also, deep slow breathing helps for a bit, but they come back.

One other question...why do we get these heart palps?..I know it is from the decreased hormonal fluctuations, and am wondering if it's safe for our hearts to be jumping as we get.

Ohhh so confused on this meno stuff.
Thanks!

Hi,
Sorry to hear you are going through this. It's one of the meno symptoms, I think.

I had them when I first got hit with peri and anxiety. I started taking 250 mg of magnesium every night before bed, and it has about stopped them completely. Some people need 500 mg, but I'd start with 250 and see how it goes for a few days. Too much can give you diahrrea. It sure keeps me regular, though.

I think there is also something called Nature Calm that has the magnesium and calcium and maybe vitamin D in it. We need extra of all 3 of these at this stage.

The palps are a bit scarey and most certainly annoying, but they will not harm you.

Hang in there!

Excellent advice from all.

May I add to try and avoid caffeine and sugar? Even some sugar substitutes can cause palps I've heard in addition to triggering headaches.

One more magnesium fan here. I find it helps with a lot of symptoms and am so glad I tried it the 1st time I saw someone recommend it.

Hi Carm
I had the same as you-it will be three years since my surgery on 6th March.

I had no fat cells to deplete unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your viewpoint) so all my surgical meno symptoms started immediately and those palps are horrid and uncontrollable! I am not allowed HRT either but I have found that just lately things have been settling down thank goodness. I always find the palps come just before a hot flush-for me that's the only time I get them now and I always get them on waking in the morning-uggh!

I honestly don't think we can control them. It is some biochemical thing going on. I think our brain is trying to stimulate our non existent ovaries and everything goes into overdrive for a while.

I definitely find that drinking hot tea sets them off (I am from UK) and getting stressed out, but I can't give up either of those at present laugh.gif
I am very fit and swim three times a week as well as walking and cycling. My resting pulse is 60 yet if I have palps it soars and there is nothing to be done about it.

It is good that you have had all the tests on your heart to put your mind at rest! I think you will find as time goes on they will get less troublesome.

Someone at the natural food store suggested making rosemary tea for palps. You just take fresh rosemary and chop it up and put it in a tea ball, and steep it and after a few swallows they stop and relaxes you. I strongly suggest it.

Hello Everyone I have some good news to share. I'm 45 and have experienced PAC's because of my pre-menopause. I also have been to a cardiologist and been put on Toprol for over 4 years becasue of the Pac's. I have researched this heart condition for about as long as I've experienced PAC's. Here's the good news I have been seeing a Naturopath for the past 6 months and all my PAC's have literally stopped. I might have one or two around my period time but that is it. I would have 100's of Pac's just before my period and during. They would start 2 weeks before and stop just about 4 days in. I started going to a Naturapath because I heard that taking heart medication for PAC's is really bad for a heart that is not damaged. Taking drugs like Toporol for this condition could actually make things worse.

Please open your phone book or Google naturapath in your area. Try to find a women naturopath they really understand our cycles and the reason why we get palps when we are going through premenopause or even menopause. The Naturopath will put you on herbs and natural vitamins that will give your body what is lacking. I swear to you this really works.

By the way I do not take Toporal anymore.

Also please take check of your Thyroid glands...have them checked by having a blood test...this is also very important. Thyroid problems are also one main reason for palp's and weight loss or gain.

If you need any further information please email me and I will try to give all the info I can.

Good Luck

Cath
