I have an appointment with a neurologist in March to discuss my headaches and head pressure. I am getting really nervous. What can I expect? I get what the gyn thinks are migraines around the time of my period but I constantly have what I think of as a rock behind my right eye. It just feels like there is a rock in there that is pushing on all sides. Sometimes it is small and feels like the size of a peanut but other times it is huge. Of course I think the worst when my anxiety is up which usually causes more tension and more wierd head feelings. I am driving myself crazy.

Neuro visits aren't real stressful (at least IMO.) He/she will first ask you for a history. Then will ask you about present problems. I think it's important to not overwhelm them with a long list of problems, but try to stick to 2 or 3 specific issues you're having.
After they take your history, they do a neuro exam. If you want to see what a good neuro exam looks like, or be familiar with some of the tests, you can google neurological exam, and there are a couple sites that have videos of the different tests they do. They're to measure your neurological functions, but aren't difficult. in fact I view them as a sort of "simon says" type of game, LOL.
If he thinks it's migraine related, he may order a MRI, or even some bloodwork to rule out other things.
All in all, I find neuro visits to be less stressful than a visit to a GP.

(((((((sunnylou)))))))))))
I'm so sorry you're suffering. I have been too for almost 3 years now with tension/migrane headaches daily. Dawn is exactly right about everything. I had and MRI from neuro and CT Scan at the hospital when this all started. I hope you find an answer cause I haven't just yet.
Hugs,
Karen

Thanks guys. I am glad that my new doctor actually listened to me and suggested that we look into things a little more but I just don't know what to expect.

Kar -
What are your headaches like? Mine are never real intense except right before my period, but they are always there. Sometimes it is the whole right side of my head and other times it is just zaps here and there. Sometimes I think it is just tension but other times not. I never used to have headaches at all and now it seems I have had a constant one for the last year.
I hope you find something to help yours too.

sunny,
My headache was like I'm wearing a tight cap on my head. I have a lot of pressure. It's changed and added new dimensions over the past 3 weeks or so (since I started a massage type therapy)....my neck hurts on the right and it goes up behind my ear and around my temple and forms like a backward C around my eye. My right eye has pressure too now. I also have been getting a burning sensation above my right eyebrow next to my temple for the last 3 weeks too, as well as pain up the back of my head on both sides. I have sore spots on my head where I feel pain on the top and in the back. I have done trigger point therapy last week and this week and when the massage therapist gets into some of the spots on my neck, it shoots pain and pressure into the spots that I feel all day long. It's very painful but I'm hoping we will be able to release some of this tension and break up the adhesions that I have. I have an appt. in the beg. of March to see another neurologist in a headache clinic at Montefiore Hospital. I'm not handling this well and I always feel sick. It's really terrible. I had head zaps in my mid 30's but never had them checked out...they lasted for a few seconds and were gone. I hope you find relief from this. Your headaches definitely sound hormonal as well. I hope your find relief sunnylou. I am 2 years post now (or is it one year....I haven't had a period for 2 years and I can't figure out if your post after 1 year without a period or post when you stop your period for good...that one baffles me a bit).
Please keep me posted on how you are.
Hugs,
Karen

Karen,
quick question for you. Is there ever a time or a position maybe, that your headaches feel better?

Thanks Karen!
The backward C kinda describes how my headaches form around my eye too. And I have noticed that when my back gets tense in the right shoulder area, if I push on that knot in my shoulder it shoots the pain up into the spot in my head. Hopefully everything will check out okay and I can relax a little and maybe they will go away. I am only 36 so I am afraid I probably have a long way to go before this stuff is over.

Oh and the pressure in my head. I describe it as a sponge filled with dirty water and if you could just squeeze all the water out, it would feel so much better.
I hope you find some relief soon.
