Hello wonderful ladies,

This is really weird...the last couple of weeks or so I have noticed itching of my eyelids, on the edge, right where my eyelashes attach to the lids. It started on the right lid...and has gotten pretty intense! Now it is starting up on the left eyelid! I don't see any redness, flakiness, or rashes. Yes, the skin on my face is dry...but that is nothing new. I have used no new types of makeup or creams and lotions. I even threw away my old mascara. So, what is causing this, and how can I get some relief?

I googled this symptom and it came up with so many things it could be...I finally just closed all the site out, before I started freaking out completely! I am very hesitant to use hydrocortisone cream in this area so close to my actual eye...don't know what to try/ Any ideas...anyone experience this before???

If I seek the advice of a physician, don't know whether to see my family doctor or eye doctor...there is strong family history of glaucoma and I have to be monitored frequently for that.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

Mine started itching a few years ago for two reasons (that I know of): 1) I'm not producing enough tears and need to use drops to moisturized my eyes, and 2) derm diagnosed seborrheic dermatitis. The itching along my eyelash line sometimes causes flaking, but not always. They get kinda of red and a bit swollen, too, probably from rubbing. I use a little diluted oil (grapeseed & vit. e combo) on my face at night, including the eye area. Commercial skin products tend to make me itch more. When it really gets bad, a warm washcloth on my eyes helps. This is probably hormone-related.

I do have very dry eyes, so maybe that is contributing to this problem.

Sounds like it might be Blepharitis. I have had this before and it did go away. Try olive oil overnight - it might help.

The best eye drops that I have found are Gen Teal. I have to pay close attention to what I put on and around my eyes. Sometimes I get itchy there and reddish eyes. I have to change my mascara frequently as well. Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Around two summers ago I also developed the itching/burning/like sand near my eyelashes and in my eyes. I went to an opthamologist and was dx'd with blepharitis and chronic dry eye syndrome and an eye infection. All symptoms came overnight. I was prescribed (2 different times in 2 to 3 months) steroid/antiobitic eye drops. That took the infection away.

The blepharitis was controlled with very warm moist eye cloths, held over the eye w/eye closed for 2x's a day (to provide relief and hydrate the eyes). I did the daily eye cloths for about a year after dx.

For the chronic dry eye, I use theratears ..a minimum (2 drops per eye) of 2 x's a day, to a maximum of 4 x's a day (per drs. advice). I had to try several different types of otc drops to see which worked best for me. Theratears has 1/2 the sodium of others I'd tried (the others produced too much stinging for me)

Blepharitis and chronic dry eye are "forever kind of things"., but they can be managed, according to my opthamologist. Now, I go to see him every year as opposed to every 3 to 6 months.

Eye cleansing cloths can also be purchased otc, I used them at the beginning but found the warm cloths worked better for me.

Dr., said as we age everyone will get this and depending where you live (hot and dry climate) will make it worse.

Even when your eyes feel they don't need moisture, keep putting those daily drops in.

I've had this itching of the eyelids this year but for me it's allergies. I notice it in certain places more than others. Right now there are alot of plants blooming and this seems to be my problem. It's only in the last few year that I've had this and it's very uncomfortable. If I rub my eyes it only makes it worse so the only thing I can do is take an antihistmine (sp) and that makes it better.....you could give it a try.

My eye allergies were so bad that, particularly under stress, I had dermatitis around my eyes, swelling, etc, without knowing that it was allergies because it wasn't in the eye, but around it! The Dr. finally prescribed Patanol eye drops (check whether that's ok with Glaucoma!), and if I feel that itch/burn either at the lash line, or as red dots under my eyes, I put a drop on it externally. If it's with both eyes and not responding, then I use it in my eyes as well. Works great to halt the spread of allergy to dermatitis that made it SO ugly and hard to get rid of. Having alot of issues with it right now, especially at the outside corners of my eyes where they tear, and a tiny bit of 1% hydrocortisone where it can't get in the eye works well, too...just don't overdo or it makes it more irritated! No more than twice a day. Cool compresses might help, too.

Wow, I have that also, and it gets intense. I have never met another person that has it. I don't wear makeup. One day it just stopped on its own. I wish u luck with yours cause it can be most annoying.





I had the itching along the lashline, but it finally stopped. Now my eyes are bloodshot red all of the time and very dry, sigh.
