Hello,

I am an athlete and have been preparing myself for a competition - my specialty is the 400 metres. I am a little overweight, which causes me to become tired around the 250m mark and drop off the pace. Are there any products that can help increase my stamina - legally? Your guidance is needed.

There is no legal magic pill that will help with stamina. It's a combination of training, diet and REST. Yes adequate rest, because overtraing leads to burnout and can actually tear down the body. There coffee "stacks" that you can do an internet search on. I don't use them, never have. I think anything extra that you put into your body to "enhance" performance, legal or illegal is artifical and dangerous.

Hi Erista,
It's so cool to find someone else on PS who runs the 400! In the winter I compete in cross-country ski races, but compete in Master's Track in the summer. I run the 100, 200 and 400 meters. The 400 is definitely the hardest, but probably my best event. I found that using bioidentical hormones help me keep my weight stable and endurance high; the hormones help me get lots of good quality sleep too. I also take vitamins and supplements: GNC Women's Mega Active multi-vitamins along with fish oil, magnesium, and calcium with vitamin D.
Are you doing any weight lifting? I think the 400 requires lots of strengh training and a good high protein diet. If you dropped the extra weight you'd probably find that your stamina increases substanially. However, I've noticed that no matter what, the last 100-150 meters of the 400 are very painful!
We should talk more--I'd love to share training secrets!
