Hello, Ladies -

It's been a couple of months, or more, since I've posted here. I was feeling fine (well, mostly, except for some of the typical peri-menopausal symptoms I've been having) UNTIL last week, when my right ear started vibrating - it's a low sound (sometimes gets louder), like a motor humming.

Okay, so I thought it might be a virus. I've been tired, with slight congestion, and my voice has been slightly raspy. I thought this "virus" would run its course . . . but finally today, I went to see my internist, because I just couldn't stand the fear, anymore. Well, he's a wonderful man, and I like him, but he didn't really give me any concrete answers as to what this ear-humming is. He did say that it's probably an inner-ear dysfunction, most likely caused by either a virus, allergies, sinus problems, mold, etc. - and he told me to take Clariton D (sp.), the 12-hr. formula.

I did - I took a tablet a couple of hours ago, and I can't notice any difference. So what do I do?? Well, I went online and looked up symptoms - and of course, I found several horrible things it could be. Worry, worry, worry.

Does anyone else have this? Any responses would be appreciated. I'm panicking. Can't help it, but I am.

Hi, Bug

Now and again I get a funny ear buzzing, and vibration too. Sometimes it's like my hearing goes out for just a second, as well. It allways catches me completely of guard, and freaks me right out.

I have tinnitus, which for me, is a swishing sound that pulses in time with my heartbeat. It is only in my right ear, it occured in my mid 30's and in my case could be a result of many ear infections as a kid. (or more likely...maybe one too many loud amplifiers...but ....yeah) rolleyes.gif

I'm not saying you have tinnitus at all......but any noises in the ear could be made worse by infection, stress, medication you are taking (ever take a lot of aspirin and notice your ears will ring a lot?).....and it could be plain old nasty peri meno....(I sometimes wake up with ringing ears which is NOT my tinnitus and will last a few hours and then go away...I attribute that to peri).

If it doesn't improve maybe check with your doctor again. Do you have any pain? Or is it just the vibration, low humming noise without pain?

Can you hear out of that ear okay? Maybe you have a build up of wax?

Hope you feel better soon....maybe an antibiotic is needed if the allergy turned into an infection?

Keep us posted and I hope you feel better. Noises in the ears are reallllllly hard to get used to and deal with.

Hugs to you.

This is something i had experienced about 10 years ago. It came out of nowhere. It felt like I had a big bug or humming bird in my ear and it freaked me out but I never went to the Dr. for it or anything and it just stopped thank goodness. It happened randomly for a while then stopped. I know it is pretty scary but going online can sometimes be even scarier. I think we can actually read too much. something i am also guilty of.I hope this helps you a little.

I have had this also. I get the sudden deafness in one ear or other for a few seconds then it passes. Sometimes my ears ring. Sometimes it sounds like I have rushing wind in there. I think mine is hormonal and anxiety related. Had my ears checked two years ago and they told me the only thing wrong was a loss of hearing in both ears but no viruses, no infections. I do have fluid in my ears but have had that for years.

Hi, again, girls! - and thanks to you, all, for your kind responses.

I've been taking the Claritin-D since last week, and I think my ear is better . . . though, I'm not certain about that, because I'm still having occasional flutters in it. However, I developed a nasty cold (still have it) and have been down with that. That's why I haven't responded here until now.

Anyhow, I'm convinced that this ear thing is something related to peri-menopause. It has to be. I never used to have this sort of thing. Seems like now I'm getting all kinds of weird symptoms (eye floaters, ear vibrations, carpal tunnel, etc., etc.).

It's enough to keep me on edge, from one symptom to the next.

Yes, my right ear is giving me trouble too. Out of the blue on New Year's Day. My sinuses now are hopelessly stuffed up. Sudafed (decongestant) is barely making a difference... and you can only take that so long. Then what?!?!? It's driving me buggie! I feel like I'm yelling at most people - sounds like I'm in a cave - and all loud incoming sound just is terrible. Sometimes I just have to put my hands over both ears. As a matter of fact I hear low humming right now! Sounds like the hum of electricity. Ick! It's #1 sinus related; but #2 got to be peri related. I've never had so much trouble with my ears and allergies since over the last three years. I've recently read about estrogen and allergies.. I'll find it again and post for you too. I often have ringing and whoooshing too. But this is different. Constant. Icky. Boooo - hooo - hoo. P.S. Netti pot puts way too much pressure on my ears - not good for me.

Hey there, ChattyCathy - Thanks for your post (and thanks to everyone else for their replies, too) -

Just wanted to say that ITA with you - it's gotta be related to hormonal changes. BTW, I have a Chatty Cathy doll! She doesn't talk anymore, though. sad.gif
