Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know if this is possible. I had a total hyster Sept. 06. I decided no HRT. I am not a little over 2 yrs after my surgery. I have NEVER had any menopausal symptoms after my surgery, which I thought was odd since I wasn't on any HRT. Well, last week one morning I woke up and had my first hot flash..wow lol. I also had some heart flutters and felt nauseated and lightheaded/woozy in my head. Since that day I am having this happen off and on.

Is it possible I am just now 2 yrs later having meno symptoms starting????? I did go to my Dr and he is going to take some heart tests too just to make sure I don't have any heart condition happening.

I did read once and my gyne said that over weight women store estrogen in their fat cells. I recently have worked hard and lost 34 lbs...Is it possible cause of losing excess fat my estrogen is depleted and thus causing these sudden meno symptoms???????

Thanks in advance for your repsonses. Wishing you good health.
Sariah
Hi Carm,

Yes, estrogen is stored in the fat cells. Generally, when woman has a total hyst., she can last up to a year (more or less) before her stored estrogen is used up, but if there is significant weight loss, it can make that happen suddenly.

Talk to your doc about using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). Ideally, the estrogen should be transdermal (Estrogel, Divigel) so as to lessen some of the risks associated with the oral route. And you don't really need the progesterone since you no longer have a uterus.

Hi Sariah,

Thanks! I thought that was the case. I do have one more question. How do you get bioidentical hormones...does your gyne prescribe them and you get them a any pharmacy? Also, do we stay on replacements the rest of our lives? HOw long do we stay on them? Do you know?

Thanks bunches!
Hugs
Carm

It's my understanding that estradiol is actually produced in fat. I think the reaction is testosterone + aromatase => estradiol. It makes sense that after the onset of menopause, whether due to ovarian failure or removal, fat loss would decrease the amount of estradiol in the body.

Hi Carm,
I assume your ovaries were removed when you had your hyst? Your recent weight loss could definitely have triggered your hot flashes. I agree that you should consider BHRT, especially if you are relatively young. BHRT can be prescribed by your doctor; if you want a "customized" preparation you would have to go through a compounding pharmacy. Alternatively, you can get bioidentical estrogen (estradiol) from any pharmacy in the form of patches, pills, creams or gels. There is also a transdermal spray (Evamist) and a vaginal delivery system (Femring). There is some evidence that transdermal delivery systems are safer than oral forms. I use the Climara patch for my estrogen and Prometrium pills for my progesterone. Both are bioidentical and I get them from Walmart.

If you do decide to try BHRT (or any type of HRT), be prepared for some trial and error. It can take several months to find the right forms and dosages for you. And your needs can change over time. The length of time you stay on the hormones is something you have to decide with your doctor. You have to consider your health history and quality of life. I hope to stay on my hormones forever!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. I had a complete hysterectomy in 2008. I was on Premarin 1.25 until 3 days ago, and just can't handle the brain fog, shaky feeling, fatigue, weight gain around the tummy and the dry loose skin I've now. Wasn't at all this way before hysterectomy and looked great for my age....now

My obgyn is not progressive and I have not seen him in 4 mos. He had me on cymbalta, high blood pressure meds, and tried hard to put me on other synthetic medicine that I would not take. After so much info on Premarin and the fact that I feel abandoned because Obgyn will not do the blood panel I requested to check any hormone levels I could possible have left, I finally decided to get off this premarin. (got off these other meds months ago)

I posted on the introduce yourself page asking if anyone had heard about the Esto500 cream at this page? www.estro500.com (guess this constitutes a new subject, yikes! on that board) Anyone know someone using this?
I have no medical insurance, and need help before my hot flashes return. I have no quality of life, no support system whatsoever, live alone and barely leave this house anymore. I will continue to read these posts for more info on products others are taking and hope I find something soon.

Thank you in advance for the fact that this site exsists and for helping so many of us!

Yoli, you must get a second opionion. And, a third if necessary. Quality of life if very important. Don't know what this estro500 is but you can't take something without a drs. input and monitoring of your health. Perhaps there is a good clinic in you community that you could go to for free/reduced healthcare. Many teaching hospitals have womens health clinics that are affiliated with them. Also, call Planned Parenthood and see if they can provide any healthcare or hormones. They should, at the very least, be able to direct you to someone who will see you without insurance.

Re: Meds/hormones - previous post mentioned Walmart (Target also) sells medicines and hormones at very low cost. And, yes they do have the bio identical ones too. But, there are also synthetics (other than Premarin) that might work for you too. You don't know until you try. You can get Walmart/Target drug formulary list online and take it with you to the doctors appointment. Tell the dr you need him to prescribe off this list inorder for you to afford the meds.

Another option for obtaining low cost meds is to ask your dr. for free samples. Also, ask the dr. to call the drug company, or drug rep, and say he has a patient without insurance. You would be surprised at how quickly they will drop off more free samples of their products. Works more often than you would think. Best regards, J

Hi Yoli, I've never heard of this product nor used it. I'm sorry I can't help you with that. But if your purpose is just wanting estradiol. If you don't mind the pill form you can get 1mg estradiol at Walmart for $4. a month. It's the generic of Estrace which is also bio-identical. You would have to have a prescription but it shouldn't be difficult to get this prescribed. My general practioner is the one who gave me my rx. You might also ask your doctor if he has any samples of Estrogel which is similar to the estro500 above.

Good luck and hopefully someone else can come along and give you information on this estro500.

Dear Yoli,

I've never heard of the Estro500 but I looked it up and it contains estriol and estradiol and as others have suggested you can get estrogen over the counter relatively inexpensively. Can you possibly contact that doctor and ask her to give you a prescription for the estragel? She may do that since you said the others didn't work! If you are looking for something to control hot flashes in the meantime, then you can use tofu to make a shake every day and see if that helps you... My friend just uses regular skim milk, tofu, fruit, and ice...sometimes she adds more protein in the forum of cottage cheese or yogurt... She was taking two a day but is now only making them once a day. A few of them also use soy nuts as snacks, although they have said it is an acquired taste tongue.gif !

I'm so sorry that you are having such a difficult time, I throughly understand! I know how hard it can be and I hope that you find something that works soon.

Best Wishes,
