Full Version: the old twitching thing...

Hi All,

I know lots of people have experienced the twitching, but I just gotta ask again. The twitching and vibrating and internal shaking is worse at night -- I gather that's common. What is really freaking me out is this weird wound feeling. Even if I get to sleep without too much trouble, I wake every few hours. As morning approaches I feel this strange wired feeling inside my body. I feel like I have to lie completely still -- My husband coughs or moves and it makes my body zing uncomfortably. Touch me with a finger and I'll go boing.

Most of what I've read about oversensitivity in peri and meno discusses irritability. I do not feel irritable. In fact, I'm less likely to explode at anyone around me, because I'm so busy trying to quell the discomfort inside my body. All the deep breathing and calm thoughts in the world don't make these weird feelings go away.

During the day, my legs feel zingy and rubbery and weak, so I feel like my balance is off.

I do yawn a lot, but the lack of rest does not make me tired, exactly. Tired could make me sleepy, which could be really good! Might feel slightly more relaxed. Instead, it's like nervous exhaustion with no hope of real rest in sight.

My stomach and digestive system seems to be doing all these kind of somersault things, too. Growling, jumping -- yuck!

I am trying so hard to avoid meds, as I'm terrified of them. I also hear that SSRI's can cause nauseau, sleeplessness, and jitteriness. If I have any more of that, I'll explode.

Has anyone experienced this weird inner wired thing/feeling this need to stay completely still in order to try to find some peace (but not really finding it!)

Thanks
Missy

Hello Missy!

Yes, Yes Yes.. I have that too.. mostly my calves and feet!! The tingling, weird arch twitches in the foot.. sort of like a pulse feeling, but the buzzing, and tingling I feel most ALL day.. but yes when sitting or at night it is the worst. I am not grouchy either, but even though I am on the pill my cycle is lighter I have noticed. You see I am 42 and wonder if I am in peri.. my doc said my FSH levels were good with him.. but who knows.. doctors right?? lol... Again though I most definately have that weird sensation in my legs, sometimes even feels like a pinch on my toes. I have noticed my hands get the electrical current feeling at times too as well as my legs/feet.

For me it all started in June, the awful anxiety (however I have suffered panic attacks since 18 years old) well long story short.. I got worse, had just visited family out of state.. came home and would get terrible panic attacks in the mornings... then I got the twitches, everywhere.. I had loose stools, dizziness, heart palps at times, so I went to see the doc! Of course he gave me a SSRI, Cymbalta.. well that made me WORSE.. I stopped after 2 weeks and am now on Zoloft. It took a good 5 weeks to work but I feel (mood wise) alot better BUT still have the weird leg stuff going on... Yes I am curious how many others do too!

Anyhow have a good weekend!

Thanks, L!

I'm glad you're feeling better. Did you feel very off balance, too? I feel like the leaning tower of pisa. It feels like I can't walk right, but as my husband points out, I am doing it.

Best,
Missy

Hi there

I have the twitching legs, achy legs, buzzing legs thing too. I have had this since Aug o8 somedays are better than others but for me it is one of the most annoying symptoms. I thought I would give magnesium oil a try. It arrived in the post yesterday so far it doesn't seem to be helping much. I have massaged my legs with arnica massage oil and that seems to be ease the symptoms for a while. I try to exercise or walk most days as I find it helps but because my legs are so weak I dont always feel like doing anything.
If anything works for anyone please let me know!
