Full Version: Taking Yaz but still having night sweats
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
alexsmom
Hi this is my first post here. I have been taking Yaz for over two years...but have over the past few months started to experience insomnia, anxiety attacks, and night sweats. Also have breast tenderness and nausea. I have read that they prescribe these low dose bcp to help people with these symptoms. Is it normal for me to be having these symptoms of perimenopause even though I am on bcp. I am 41 years old....and these things started about 4 months ago.

I am really worried that maybe its not peri maybe its something worse...any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I started bcp for that reason, birth control at 38. But I developed symptoms after being on it for a year and a half, so around my 40th birthday. My symptoms are waking up warm (not a full hot flash), waking up 3 a.m., feeling off balance (like on a boat), anxiety out of the blue over these symptons, cramps midcycle, spotting in week 3, feeling like I am ovulating. Although you aren't supposed to on the pill.
I was put on a monophasic pill that helps somewhat, but not with everything. I have been offered xanax, etc for the anxiety but have chosen not to go that route.

My doctor said for someone my age that bcp were a first line of defense for perimenopause. To even things out. He tends to not think that the pill causes my anxiety, he thinks I do it to myself........he is partially correct.

They tend to act like the pill should even everything out, but I believe as do others on this site, that our bodies can and DO override the low dose pills at times.

I think my body does whatever it chooses anymore.

I try to just float along and read the posts here, makes me feel not so nuts and alone.

Keep reading here, there is awesome information and very knowledgable and helpful people on this website.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I have been reading this site all day since I discovered it this morning...and its amazing how many of the things I have been experiencing other women have too. It has been a real comfort to me. There have been times lately that I feel like I am losing my mind...but I feel so much better knowing there are people who understand what I am going through.

No problem we are here to help. I thought I was going nuts at first!!! That is for sure. But as I soon found out here we are not alone at all!!!
Most doctors just don't know enough about all this and this shocks me. My sister is 38 and just beginning to feel all of this fun. I love my Mother with all my heart, but she comes from the time when they did partial hysterectomies and she had those and she chooses NOT to discuss her symptoms because that means they aren't real. At least in her mind, its just close your mouth and move on with your day so my sister and I hunker down and talk to each other and laugh, its all we can do!!!!!

I am sure that you will get alot of great advice here!!!!

Have a great day!!!!

My mom told me today that she was about my age when she started going through this kind of stuff too. I called my gyno and I have appointment to see her in about 3 weeks. She said it definitely sounds hormonal but she needs to run some tests and see what is going and it is time for annual check up anyway. She didn't seem to think it was out of the ordinary for me to be suffering these symptoms even though I was on Yaz. So that made me feel a little less crazy..lol

Yaz can cause problems as well.Just look up Yaz side effects and you will see what I mean.I took Yasmin and finally had to switch because of how bad they made me feel.GOD-bless

i am on Seasonique, and it helps alot, but some weeks are still pretty bad. There are many moments of high anxiety, shakes, etc. My doctor did say nothing can keep up with the changes in our hormones all the time, and yes, they override the pill sometimes. I get nausea pretty often as well and it is annoying to say the least.

Hang in there, I believe you are fine, just in peri. Feel better.

Thanks so much Enough...I actually asked the expert here Dr Warner about it and he said that because Yaz was not bioidentical that it could actually make my symptoms worse. Its just good to know that I am not losing my mind...because it really has felt like it the past few weeks. I really appreciate this board it has helped me so much.

Dear'alexsmom'

Welcome to the Forum and no you are not losing your mind.'Enough' is right when she mentions Hormonal replacements or BCPs helping with symptoms but not overiding them completely.I think that would be impossible.

I have taken HRT for many years but it does not prevent the onset of middle age or Menopausal changes just helps them be more bearable

It is good that you are going for a full check up.Perhaps the Doctor will prescribe something more suitable for you.Let us know how you go on

Warm Wishes

Hey alexsmom

Glad you found us! I was on Yasmin, recommended by my OBGYN a year ago, and lasted just 5 months. After a couple of months things seemed better, fewer headaches and the diuretic in Yasmin meant I lost about 8 pounds. It didn't address my palps however, which are my worst peri symptom - in fact sometimes they were worse - and after a solid month of brainfog I gave up. My theory is that our ovaries are still doing their own thing, so sometimes adding estrogen and progesterone can make things worse not better. I have no medical background but that's my theory based on my own experience!

Sending you hugs

Thank you so much....I am so glad I found you all too. Right now its hard to say what my worse symptom is...i think the constant anxious feeling is the worse for me....although the breast tenderness is pretty annoying as well. Has anyone tried the over the counter menopause treatments like Estroven...I was wondering if they helped at all.

I had new thing happen yesterday...I have just finished my second week of pills yesterday...but I cramped all day and by afternoon was spotting blood...it has stopped this morning..but I was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about or if it is just part of the whole peri thing.

I think you may need a change in the type of birth control pill you are currently taking. Some just crap out after time, I think anyway.
I went to the doctor in October for the same thing, he reassured me it is normal, sometimes our own bodies just do their own thing. He recommended a switch to Yasmin, which I never took, because I read to much stuff about it I didn't like. I stayed on my old pill and it has gotten better. Anyway he said it is pretty much trial and error with the bcp's. There is no "best" pill for women of our age. You just have to try and find one that you like and works!!!! Not the greatest advice, but that is what I am finding out when it comes to all this peri stuff, trial and error!!!!!!!!!!

I have to wonder if I am protected against pregnancy....since it seems like my body is doing its own thing.
