Full Version: I don't look so hot these days

Hello, ladies, first post here. smile.gif

This is the thing I am noticing. I used to have night sweats during peri and I think I had hot flashes last summer and the one before. But now, the only thing I have besides that state of fogginess, constant pms feeling, and no pep a lot is changes in my figure, teeth and hair. Oh, except having to pee more--what a nuisance that can be.

Figure: went off Pill when periods quit altogether last Aug and I am losing weight and muscle tone. I read that your hips and bust will flatten and the tummy go out. Well, I have that despite exercise. I never thought I would lose weight in menopause. But then, not much appetite, either, lately.

Teeth: I can't seem to whiten them. They look dullish even trying those strips but I didn't do them enough maybe. I hated the feeling of them in my mouth, yuk. I tried various toothpastes and whitening mouthwash to no avail.

Hair: fell out for three summers in a row in an unprecedented amount. I have more gray than ever before in just a few months and without makeup and with my dull teeth, I look like an old prairie woman. The hair is not as thick even during winter. Gonna cut my long style into something perkier I guess but I don't know what. Short hair really isn't my thing even though I like it on a lot of women.

I went to the clinic this week to discuss all and the NP gave me a prescrip for the lightest dose of Prempro. Which I think I will start Sun since that was always Pill day.

I hope to have some of my appearance restored maybe? Did it help any of you?

Hi Cynth8,

Welcome, I can relate to what you are saying. It seems I feel quite young till I see my reflection in a mirrow and then I have to wonder who is that old woman? It sounds though like you are doin better than I if you are losing weight. I would suspect that once you take prempro you will gain 5-10 lbs within a week.

As for the hair falling out, I heard this was due to a lack of testosterone but I've noticed that as I increase my dosage of testosterone my hair seems to fall out more. You can always color the gray so don't fret about that. And brush your teeth with baking soda once a day and see if they don't brighten up.

I envy you ladins if you can find something to take that helps ANYTHING! I tried but nothing at all works so I am going it "natural"...anyway I can commiserate nthe looks...UGH....I just look awful no matter what I do....though I keep trying....I uploaded my picture on one of those site that helps you choose a hair style and I just kept looking at myself and thinking how ugly I was no matter what style I chose...image 300 styles or more and my face still looks to ugly....I really take a horrible picture and my only hope is that I don't look quite as bad in real life.....

Hugs to both of you and I want to say, I tried to make my post sound not so discouraged as I am but I applaud your honesty. You should see my cell phone pictures I took of myself to try to come up with a good, current one of me. Eek, I believe washed-out looking is the best way to describe. biggrin.gif Hard to look alive with the baggy lids.

I will give try the baking soda, it's good stuff for a lot of things and more natural besides. Listerine whitening mouthwash may work for some people but I am returning mine to the store and if they ask for a reason why, I'll just smile.

A color job is necessary I think, not a fun thing like in the past. I actually like grey and silver hair on a lot of women but they are vibrant beauties who look in the pink.

I told the nurse about my dead sex drive, too, kaput, gone like the summers of yesteryear, lol. I'm not in a relationship right now but I think a person might want to still feel that within themselves anyway.

Thank you!
