Hi Again and Happy New Year to you all!!

Iam sure this is posted in the wrong place but.....

I was wondering if any of you have had positive results from taking supplements like St Johns Wort, Royal Gelee, vitamins etc.
I would love to know if anything other than HRT has given any of you some relief from the symptoms. I am willing to try anything.

At the moment I am taking magnesium and calcium and omega 3 fish oils. To be honest I am not sure if its making much of a difference but I will keep taking them unless any of you can come up with something better!

hi jazzy

nice ta meetcha!

I have tried many many naturopathic remedies for my symptoms. Oh the bottles of vitamins and remedies I've tried that are abandoned in my closet!!!!!!!

Anyway, for high morning cortisol (morning jitters and anxiety) i took phosphytidal serine for a long time. People swear by it on other sites and some ladies on PS have used it with some success too! I don't know if it worked or not becuase I started to cycle again while I was on it so my estrogen kicked up and calmed me down. Now I'm as low estrogen as mummy, jittery as heck so i will be tryin' it again.

I do take a good probiotic - called probiotic synergy which I order on line and has made a big difference in my regularity along with magnesium :calcium in a 2:1 ratio - if you have stomach issues.

I also had great result from taking remifemin which is basically black cohosh / I believe a plant estrogen. But i am freakedout by adding estrogens so i stopped. I had the same success with bhrt but again the estrogen issue.

I do take a dha supplement and zinc for mental clarity but i am still a bit foggy.

I find L-theanine works for low level anxiety but i need the big guns so take klonipin as needed.

The greatest natural therapy for peri for me has been swimming. I swim at a local indoor pool as often as possible 4 or 5 times a week (between when my youngest child gets on the school bus and i have to be at work sheeeeeesh) When i first started swimming i could not breath properly to swim for extended periods of time - now i can swim for almost an hour and force myself to be in the moment. The reptitive motion, the forced consistent breathwork and the weightlessness of the water is very therapeutic.

Hope any of this helps.

Hi Jazz...

I have been taking 'herbal equilibrium' from womentowomen.com (see website for info on this - go to their programs page) for about 4 months now and I am sleeping MUCH better and my hot spells have minimised to almost none.

I do still have anxiety and a complete lack of sex drive, so I am working on that with my 'alternative healthcare Dr'...I'm hoping for a complete turnaround in 2009.

Good luck to you too.

Thank you both for you suggestions ....I am hoping to find some magic answer to my peri problems. I will look into your remedies and give them a try at some stage. I also am finding that excercise and healthy eating seems to be the best thing for me at the moment.
I am also aware of the money I could be wasting on herbal remedies and supplements.
Thanks for answering!

Jazzybyrd, I think you are already on the right track. Exercise, healthy eating ... add to that drinking plenty of water, getting sleep (if you can ! progesterone supplementation might help with that), and trying to stay calm and sane. :-)

Thanks Sandra

I have ordered some progesterone cream and I am looking forward to giving this a try. I have been reading the book WHAT YOUR DOCTOR MAY NOT TELL YOU ABOUT PREMENOPAUSE and have found it very interesting reading.
