Well, ladies, I went through Friday with minimal spotting and cramping. Friday afternoon, the cramping increased. Woke up at 5:30 this morning with severe cramping and a lot of blood on the toilet paper. Cramping was to the middle of lower abdomen, all the way through to my right lower back, and down into my right upper thigh (had that a lot during peri). Hadn't been taking anything for pain, but took 400 mg ibuprofen about 6 a.m. That settled things down in about an hour, and the bleeding never did get heavy enough to even soak 1/2 a pad before tapering off to spotting again. Then, about noon, it happened again. Was ready to take ibuprofen, but took 600 this time (post-op instructions said I could take up to 800 every 6 to 8 hours). This time, it's easing the pain, but it's not going away. And the bleeding, at least for the time being, just spotting again

Anybody got a clue about this?? The doc's office is really good about people calling after hours, but I hate to do it. I'm not running a fever, the pain is bearable so far. It's just I didn't expect this four days AFTER the D&C. (If the pain gets worse, or I start soaking a pad an hour, I will definitely call, though.) Heating pad helps, too, as do those ThermaCare things you can stick on your back. And my IBS is acting up. Never heard so much noise from my intestines before rolleyes.gif

I know there's stuff left in there after a D&C, as she told me the very best D&C only gets 80% of the lining out. But don't you think it's weird this started four days after the D&C and not right away?

Hi Pam,

I'm 2 weeks out from a D&C and removal of ovaries/tubes. I didn't have uterine cramping until almost a week after the procedure. The bleeding went on for about 12 days. It did seem to taper off at certain times and then come back more heavily at others. I'm wondering if the cramping isn't the uterus "settling down" after the procedure. My uterus was also enlarged, so I'm assuming it is in the process of slowly returning to a normal size (which they said it would do), which would also cause some crampy feelings. I think that as long as you're not running a fever and the bleeding doesn't become heavy, you're probably experiencing normal symptoms. If spotting hasn't stopped by the 2-week mark, I would also call just to get some feedback.

Hang in there and have a safe and happy New Years!

I had a D and C on Friday the 19th. I was told to expect some pain, but I actually didn't have any. I spotted for about a day after the procedure, but then on Christmas eve started running a fever and having diarhhea. I couldn't stand up but for a few minutes without getting dizzy. I couldn't even get up out of the bed on Christmas until late that evening and then was finally able to warm up some stuff in the oven. I had to have the kids bring their presents into my room to open them. This has been going on for 4 days now. I forgot that the dr's offices closed at noon on Friday, or I would have called them, but am definitely going to call on Monday. I have been puzzled about whether this is related to the D and C that I had 5 days before this all started, or just a coincidence.
