I have been having this on going tightness with some throbbing on the left side of my head, right above my ear. It radiates down my neck. I can rub right where it hurts in my neck like a sore muscle. In fact it feels like I have slept wrong every morning. I wake up with this throbbing over my ear every morning. I have been to ENT, taken antibotics,. I went to dr and she thinks that I am having migraines...I really dont think I am..she wants a brain scan..I might just do it just to ease my on mind that I dont have a tumor or anything. I called my gyn and begged for another fsh test. Just to see how my blood levels are doing and if my body was absorbing the hormones I am taking...She said that I am surely menopausing and that I am absorbing and that my estrogen was high...Do any of you think that to much estrogen will make you have headaches like I am having? Please let me know..
By the was these headaches dont ease up to much unless I take advil...
I personally think it is all this hormone flucuation.
GYN upped my hrt in nove. to 1.o...then when she saw my recent blood work she though maybe going back down to .5 would be a good idea since estrogen is high...
ANY ADVISE???

Hi Karen:
I cannot answer your questions precisely, can only say that I have had migraines all my life and everyone experiences them in a different way. For instance, before peri symptoms started, I would suddenly have incredible pain behind my left or right eye. This is known as a classic cluster migraine. They hurt like crazy.
Now since about the age of 35, I get what as known as the migraine aura (black spots in my vision, vision disturbances) then the migraine pain starts about 30 minutes later. Most of the time it starts on the left side of my head behind my eye or above my ear.
These headaches are horrible to me and I feel sore even after it stops. So it is very possible that you could be having migraines. Go ahead and have the scan done. It will give you piece of mind and maybe you can then determine exactly what is causing the headaches.
Hope this helps some. Hugs to you and Happy New Year.

I have heard that too much estrogen can cause headaches-I personally have muscle tension so bad that it pinches nerves in my shoulders sometimes,I get these knots and my husband has to rub them out,it hurts so bad.Try a nice hot shower in the morning and ibuprophen-this helps me.GOD bless

I have TMJ and pain goes around the eyes, temples, on the top of the head and down the neck and arm. Google it and see if it applies to you. I causes much more than I ever knew.
Feel better.
