I know many people get depressed over the christmas holidays. I sometimes do also, but more so on the days following christmas. I often feel "let down." The job of putting away the tree and decorations gets me depressed. I'm one of those people who NEEDS to "have someting to look forward to." A trip somewhere, a wedding, the birth of a grandchild, an anniversary, a birthday, holidays, etc., etc. I feel very selfish writing this. sad.gif

I'm the same way! The task of putting my house back in order is daunting, and it takes me a few days to get my head around all that needs to be done.

Also.. my kids all live a couple hours away in 3 different directions, and when they leave on Christmas, I get incredibly sad. Very, very, sad....

It helps to plan something for January or February... a few days away to visit someone, a "movie weekend," whatever will bring a little joy.

I hate the January-to-March stretch, and my hub and I have been "breaking it up" by planning a trek in February for the past few years. It helps!

I get depressed the day after Thanksgiving (a holiday I love) because I know the holiday "season" will be around with all of its stress for another month. I guess I'm weird cause I am so happy on Dec 26th to know its over for another year. But I understand the blues that come after, too.

I must be the exception to this rule as I LOVE the day after Xmas (we call it Boxing Day here in NZ). I loathe Xmas day and all it represents (all the pressure to conform to family expectations) so Boxing day is my day to chill out, relax and enjoy what is in my case the beginning of my xmas holiday break. I am taking 5 weeks off work to get myself together after what has been a very stressful & trying year and so far I feel great just knowing there is no pressure on me to do anything I don't want to do. In fact yesterday I cleaned out my salon, polished the floor in it, did 8 loads of laundry, took down curtains and washed them also and generally had a good spring/summer clean out and it felt darn good to do it. Haven't had that kind of energy or inclination for a long time. I won't take down my Xmas tree or lights till way into January (had them up since mid November laugh.gif ) as this is the best part of the Christmas season and I like it to continue for as long as possible and I don't care about silly superstitions etc about taking xmas trees down by a certain date yadda yadda yadda.

Now I just have to work out how to get the stench of cigarette smoke out of my wooden baby cot that I lent out to someone and they returned ruined by cigarette smoke so now I can't pass it on to my son to use for my first grandchild.

Anyone have any suggestions short of sanding it all down and revarnishing it as this would be a mammoth task as it is a colonial style one with lots of turned wood etc so sanding it would be near impossible and take forever sad.gif and I only have till June to get it sorted ohmy.gif

NO, you had not told me! I am so happy for you! I know you are thrilled beyond words! I'm gonna be a grandma again too. Due in August.

Do you know if it's a boy or a girl and who's the proud papa?

Do they have names picked out?

Sorry bout the crib. What a shame!!!

Congratulations grandma!!!

Hugs,

I am thrilled that Christmas is over and done! I have made a complete 179, or is that a 180, I'm JK, I was typing in the dark! I have gone from thriving on responsibility to running from it. I don't care if my life is not perfect anymore. I no longer NEED to make an impression. I no longer NEED to be needed. I don't NEED to feel love or to be loved. Yea, that is kinda sad isn't it? Well, that's not completely true. I do need my family and my friends, I'm just more content with who I am and I don't need everyone's approval. (yes I do) I just don't have to work as hard as I use to.

So, NO, I'm not depressed after Christmas. I'm not looking for the next big thrill or the next big thing to be involved in or the next person's life to make a difference in.

Hmmmmm................did I get sidetracked? Oh well, sorry! I guess it was relative somehow.

I cried all night, after my man and me dropped my DD off at her Dad's. We had had So much fun together, Christmas and boxing day.
