bijous: Hard to say...could be anything from liver problems to contact dermititis. Does your doctor know about it? I'd get it checked out.

Dear'bijous'

Only had darkened palms when I was suffering from contact dermititis ,as R.R. said .They were also very itchy. In my case they were caused by wearing rubber gloves while washing dishes

However,if they continue to stay this colour I would have them checked out by your Doctor,Probably something harmless and simple but best to put your mind at rest.

Best Wishes and let us know what happens

Honey
No need to freak out Everyone feels anxious when they have to go to the Doctor but I bet it is a really simple thing.
So enjoy your holidays and keep us posted.

The only time I had trouble with reddening of the palms of my hands is when my blood pressure was out of control. I am glad you are going to get checked out!

Dear bijous:

There is another possible explanation. Raynaud's syndrome is most of the time a benign response, in certain parts of the body like the hands and feet where they turn dark red, sometimes blue and white, to extreme changes in temperature and weather.

As a side note and not to upset you, it can also be a secondary thing to autoimmune diseases, which usually cause the Raynaud's to be painful, and that is why I have it. So if it continues to bother you please speak to your doctor to rule this out.

Hope this helps some. Merry Christmas and hugs to you,
Jeaninne

whoa, i won't keep posting about this on the meno page, yet other websites are lame.....my doc said my liver panel bloodwork back in may, 2008 was fine...i know it is not raynauds, yet everywhere i look, it states cirrhosis of the liver....i'm getting nowhere on the net, except a real bad feeling about this.
my doc told me that i need to take baby asprin, my blood is a bit thick. no, his brain is a bit thick.
thanks for listening and your advice...whoa, and i feared horrific mood swings, drenching night sweats and anxiety attacks? how things can change.....i have to call a specialist, because, i cannot let this alone with doc's advice.

bijous: Please don't panic about this...for you to have cirrhosis and have your ONLY symptom be red hands would be very unlikely. Are you severely bloated, peeing dark brown urine, vomiting, losing weight...have you developed a yellow-ish tinge to the whites of your eyes...are you extremely fatigued and sleeping for 20 hours at a time?

Those are symptoms of cirrhosis. People who develop cirrhosis are usually alcohol abusers (long term), drug abusers, chemo patients, or rarely, morbidly obese (my great grandmother had cirrhosis when she died, and she never touched a pill or a drink in her life...but she was very, very overweight. She also lived to 80.)

It's probably something hormonal; since you posted, I have been looking at my own palms and they are redder than I ever remember them being. It's just good sense to see your doctor, but don't let your imagination frighten you into a very unlikely outcome. We've joked a lot here about the dangers of googling your own physical symptoms...it never leads to anything good.

Take a deep breath, and let us know what the doctor says, but I'll bet you a buck it's nothing....I shouldn't have been so abrupt in my initial reply to you, for which I apologize. 99.99% of the stuff we worry about never happens...I'm sending you cyber-hugs right now....
