Hi,

I hope someone can relate and help me. I am 51 and I had my ovaries removed seven weeks ago. Last week my doctor started me on the Climara patch, prometrium, & estrace cream. My menopause symptoms (hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings) improved immediately. The second day after I started taking the meds, I noticed a frequent need to urinate. I don't feel any pain like when I've had a UTI. At night it is hard to fall asleep because I feel like I need to pee, but my bladder is empty. I just wondered if anyone else had this problem after ovary removal or starting hormones?

Hi Teacup,

It wouldn't hurt to mention this to your doc. It might be related to the removal of your ovary, and some post-op stuff.

I still have my ovaries but I seem to always have the urge to go too. For me, I think it's mostly in my head. I can't pass by a bathroom without feeling like I should go and before going to bed I visit the bathroom at least twice, sometimes more if I've done something else before climbing between the sheets. It has to be the very last thing I do otherwise I can't sleep till I get up and go again... now I've always been able to tinkle.. sometimes it's just a small amount but it's never a wasted trip. What's even worse... Sometimes I'm in such a hurry to get this chore finished that I find I have not completley emptied my bladder so even after pulling my pants up, I'll have to pull them down again and tinkle again... it's crazy.....

So.. it may not be related to your surgery but since if it's a new thing since your surgery it would be wise to ask your doctor as Joli suggested.

Interesting. The estrogen should help that urge, especially the Estrace. Are you inserting it vaginally or just applying it to the outer peri area? My doc just the other day prescribed this and said it should help with the urge incontinence. When I would get the urge to go I had to pee RIGHT THEN and could barely make it to the bathroom, and sometimes didn't make it sad.gif

The only other thing I can think of is that I was just re-reading Dr. Vliet's book on hormones last night and she said some women have a sensitivity to propylene glycol, which is in some of the vag creams. She said it can be irritating and cause a burning sensation. So I wonder if it could also be the reason why you feel you have to urinate but can't.
