Ok I got my FSH back and it was 5.0.. so that means NO peri...even though I feel like this???

eek!

The FSH level doesn't really tell you anything about peri, more about full menopause. But even then, it depends on what day you are tested, because when you are young and cycling regularly, FSH does spike (to cause the follicle to mature and release the egg).

If you have the classic peri symptoms and you are in your late 30's or anywhere in your 40's, you are probably peri.

You should check your progesterone level, that is likely to be the first to go out of whack due to increasing number of anovulatory cycles. It will go low.

LH is lutenizing hormone, different from progesterone. You should have your progesterone checked. If low, you could supplement with OTC progesterone cream and possibly get some relief from symptoms. I had a good run with just progesterone for 2 years, I wish I would have started it sooner !

So where does the FSH leave me then at 5.0? lol!
I feel soooo peri, or I hope that is what I am! The doc did FSH and LSH??
thanks again!!

Well, I would say that FSH of 5 just means that you're not menopausal, but you knew that anyway because you're still having periods. :-) That's why I think the FSH test is useless. Well, useless for peri/meno, it's probably more useful if you are cycling normally and trying to get pregnant but can't.

You might have to tell them that you want your estradiol and progesterone to be tested. That's what I did. In fact, on the first test I remember I had to transfer the test request sheet from the doc's office to the lab, and the doc had only marked FSH and LH and a few other things, so I added the check marks for estradiol and progesterone too. :-)
