Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?

Hello. I'm 51 and sure I'm in perimenopause. A few years agp I skipped a month here and there. Before that I was always really regular. Last year, I skipped my period for 5 months and then got it like clock work for 4. Then I skipped 8 months and started to spot on November 7. On December 1 I got a real period. It was pretty heavy but not one cramp! Now that's gone and I'm still spotting. I know that spotting in perimenopause is normal, but is it normal to spot for this long. I have a doctor appt. tomorrow but found this great board and would like to know if any of you have ever experienced anything like this. Thanks!

I had been spotting off and on (mostly on!) since the end of August. I'm 52. It would go into what seemed like a regular period then taper off again and then spot, spot, spot....

I found out my progesterone levels are waaaaaay low & I'm estrogen dominant. I've been taking natural supplements from my holistic doctor, following the anti-estrogen diet and using ProGest cream. Although I'm afraid to be too optimistic, it's now been three whole days of NO spotting. Finally. I hope it lasts. rolleyes.gif

Several other ladies on this forum have experienced this, too, so for some of us this is completely normal.

After one period several months ago, I spotted for several weeks.

I might be wrong about this, but I think the bleeding abnormality that warrants the most concern is ceaseless heavy bleeding. I think spotting is normally not a concern during peri.

It's a good idea to get any abnormal bleeding or spotting checked out. I was spotting a lot too. Mine was caused by a uterine polyp. I went in for a D&C and that was when the polyp was found and removed. I haven't had any more spotting. I have also heard that fibroids can cause spotting too.

Good point, LLW, I also had a polyp which created a bit of spotting.

My last year of having periods, I was constantly spotting - drip, drip, drip... My doc said it was because my hormone levels were not remaining high enough to keep the uterine lining from constantly shedding. My uterus would get VERY sore from the constant spotting!

It's essential to have any unusual bleeding checked out, altho' at the same time, it's COMMON to have unusual bleeding during peri-menopause! ohmy.gif
