I was found to have a 8mm rounded 'nodule' that is 'probably benign' in my left breast.

I was told to come back in 6 months for a re-check.

My Gynaecologist said it is probably a adenemona by its appearance on the mammogram results, and that they are fairly common. (I googled, and they are common in younger women, but older women still get them).

The radiologist Dr. couldn't find it for a long time, as its quite small.......

Questions: Has anyone here ever had one, had one disappear (do they just disappear?) or had one removed?
Do they always grow bigger?......Could I have had it since i was much younger? (this was my first mammogram at 48)
Could it have appeared since my hormones have been changing i.e. because of too much estrogen? (my last period was August '07)

I know I posted about this before, and even though I have made my decision to just go back in 6 months, I am still curious as to who else has had them and what they did about them.

Thankyou girls!!

i had a benign tumor taken out just for the piece of mind.in any case,i would go and get two other opinions, from other doctors--if ony to ease your mind.

Hi Caz,

Yep, I have them in my breasts. I have cysts which are fluid filled, these can grow larger and then shrink, it seems to have a mind of it's own. The other type, are solid, mine are watched and I have never had them removed.

I go to have my mamogram on Monday, so they will check it out and watch for any changes. So far it has been there for a long time and they say it's benign. I worry about removal, that would scar and disfigure, but I would do it if the doc felt that it should come out, but this has not been suggested so far.

These all started at age 36, I am now 50 and continue to have these lumps all the time. I do worry each time I go and have my mamo, it's always in the back of my mind. I've had several ultrasounds and needle asperations (where they drain fluid cysts).

All I can tell you is that many women do have them, I'm not sure if it will just go away someday or not. I will ask on Monday what they think about that and if I find out more I will let you know! Take care and try not to worry.

yes I had one about 15 years ago..in my L breast. It was removed under 'twilight' surgery, when you're in and out..and it looked like a piece of white chicken meat..they say it's fatty tissue..

I haven't had one in my breast since, but I do have one under the skin on my L elbow..I cn move it around and almost 'see' it under the skin...I guess if you are prone to growing them you can have many all over your body without problem..they're not a precursor for cancerous growths or anything..just fatty tissue under the skin

Thanks Juliann, Libby and Nurselisa....

You have put my mind at ease.....after all, I thought to myself, if the radiologist thought it was anything like suspicious then he would have had me in for that needle biopsy...and he didn't....just to go back in 6 months, so I will and try my best to put it to the back of my mind 'til then!!

You girls are wonderful!

my daughter had an fibroadenoma in her breast, and we had it removed just for peace of mind. It was minimally invasive surgery-- and she recovered easily.

Hi, Same deal. This time, October 2008, they found a tiny fibroadenoma and to come back in 6 months for an ultrasound. They want to watch it. I have really dense breasts. I've had mammos since I'm 38, now am 52. My mom died of breast cancer, so that's why I started so early with the mammos. They never saw it on my tests before, just this time. So, don't beat yourself up for not finding it sooner or having tests sooner. We do the best we can. I keep thinking when I go back in May, it will be gone. Oh, I did stop wearing underwire bras. Maybe they put pressure on the breast in the wrong spot. Maybe not but what the heck.

thanks Resaplus3...in fact I just got my reminder letter...not looking forward to it....I am going to see if I can get away with just an ultrasound on the area they want to look at rather than get them flat ironed!!

Let me know how yours goes.

Ok, I went today for the 6 month follow-up. I am happy to report it hasn't changed It is exactly the same "tiny" little thing. They want me back for another ultrasound in 6 months to watch it. They watch it for two years. Today I only needed an ultrasound and only on the breast they found the fib.ad. in. They did not recommend a biopsy or an MRI. Biopsies will distort future mammos and that might cause them to miss something. I go to a specialized Breast Center. It's not easy sitting there waiting for the results, bit worth it. Did you make your appointment? wink.gif

Hi Resaplus,

So you only had an ultrasound?...they didn't strongly recommend a mammogram? .....I talked with my gyno yesterday and he said he is going to talk to the imaging place and ask them if they can just do a sonogram/ultra.....he hasn't let me know yet, but I am hopeful they will just do a sonogram.

I'll let you know.

Glad to hear there are no changes.

Did they also say you could just have the ultrasound for the next 2 years?!

Did they give you a size for the 'little thing'?

In October I had the ultrasound with my regular mammo because my breasts are so dense. In the mammo, they can hardly see anything---like looking for a snowball in a snowstorm. So the ultrasound found the "tiny" nodule. Today was my 6 month follow up and only an ultrasound was done. They never saw the nodule on the mammo. I go next October for both. No, they recommend the annual mammo, along with the ultrasound which will be every 6 months for 2 years. They didn't give me a size. I liked the word "tiny." laugh.gif

Hope mine ultrasound in 6 months would yield the same results.

Same here....I was only 23 years old when I had mine, and as an outpatient at the hospital, they had to remove it because it was a large one (so yes, it does grow!)...and I haven't had one since. smile.gif
