I wrote about my nocturnal panic attack . At least that what I think they are after not getting any help from a neuro/sleep specialist. He gave me Klonapin and I read that it is just like a very strong benzo . I tried a couple of times taking a half of .25 of xanax but it didn't stop me from falling asleep and then jolting up with fast heartbeat and suffocating feeling all night long. Neuro said I did not have sleep apnea when I had sleep study done but I had 96 arousals in 28 minutes of sleep. He suggested sleep walking which was ridiculous. So my husband gave me a whole xanax and I finally fell asleep on the couch. He didnt' wake me to go to bed just put the lights out and said he didn't see me jumping up at all for 2 hours at least. I guess the xanax wore off around 2am. I took it at about 10pm. I started the jumping up again and tried to go in my bed but my husband was snoring. So I went back to couch and did fall asleep again with only about 2 jolts I think. I even remember dreaming so I know I did sleep. I am so happy that I finally slept but worry about taking xanax everynight. I'm just wondering maybe if I should take something like ambien instead of the xanax. Any suggestions on this. Does anyone else take xanax to sleep and did it wear off for you in middle of night? Thank you all for keeping my sanitiy.

I know what you are talking about and it is definately hormonal because I get it the week off on my bcp. Some things that have helped me is no caffeine after 5:00 pm,lower your salt and sugar.Take an afternoon walk and walk at least 35 minutes or more.Right before bed take a nice hot shower or bath.As for the xanax-I have used it off and on for two years, never much, but I am no where near addicted so you should be fine.GOD-bless

Beware of Ambien ... I used it a few times for overseas trips, to help me get over jet lag. Didn't do too badly then. But the last time I took it (several months ago) I felt like I was hallucinating ! I had to keep my eyes open to feel like I was in touch with reality ! Never again. It doesn't happen to everyone, but just beware.

Xanax wears off quickly. It really relaxes you, makes you feel great, and helps you to sleep, but usually it won't last all night. I feel for you. I have had a similar problem, used to wake up couple times per night with a start and heart beating out of my chest. It was either adrenal surges or some serious anxiety. Thank God it finally wore off from that extreme. Did a lot of praying. I still wake up couple times at night but not with the severe anxiety. I am sure it will get better.

I had a doctor who would not prescribe Xanax, instead she prescribed Klonopin. She said Klonopin was less addictive and the effects lasted longer. Well, I have taken Xanax off and all throughout the years and I found that the Klonopin was more addicting than the Xanax. After a few months, it felt like I needed the Klonopin at the same time everyday or I would get very anxious if I did not take it,that felt like addiction to me. Plus it did not make me feel as good as the Xanax. With theXanax I did not feel like I had to take it if I skipped it. Also when I first started taking the Klonopin, I remembered one night right when I was falling asleep I heard muzzled voices in my rigth ear, which jolted me out of bed. Just thought I would add that in.
