Hi All-

I am experiencing my first really bad sinus infection. This all started 2 months ago when I thought my clogged ears were the result of allergies. After about a month of clogged ears the tinnitus started and I went to my GP who gave me a mild short acting antibiotic and nasal spray. Well the antibiotic helped the nasal spray not so much. About 3 or 4 days after comming off the antibiotic, I started to get the clogged ears Pressure and noise in ear got louder. I went to an ENT who said I didn't have a blocked estusian tube and get used to the noise.

Weill I lived with this for about another month and just went back to my GP saying the noise ear pressure and nasal pressure was worse than ever. I actually have trouble hearing and still can't pop my ears (only on 2 doses of biaxin)

Had some relief last night and noise was fairly quiet but this AM the pressure was back big time in the cheeks, tooth pain and pressure in the ears which make the noise terrible.

My question does it sometimes take a long time for sinus infections to resolve? Has anyone else had a sinius infection with ear pressure and tinnitus?

I am hoping the noise will go away or lessen allot once the ear pressure goes away. Has anyone experienced this?

Does it take a long time for the ear pressure to go away?

I am also using pesudafed per my Doc.

This thing is driving me nuts

Are you having nasal congestion? Can you breathe through your nose?It sounds more like allergies than a sinus infection to me.Try an antihistimine(ask dr first)and if it helps it probably is allergies. Also try salt water nasal wash, this helps a lot.As for the tinnitus,I have had it for years, when I am under stress,or about to start my period it gets worse.Hope you feel better-GOD-bless

Hi Lady-

Thanks for the reply.

The Dr had given me a nasal spray to use 1/day for 2 weeks, which did absolutely nothing to clear the pressure in my ears.

The antibotic he gave me first seemed to work better. Not sure how he is deciding the direction to take but he feels it is a sinus infection. I also have facial pressure, achey teeth, and temple headaches.

My nasal membranes are dry but feel stuffy. Most mornings get very little through one while the other is blocked completely. I have post nasal drain down the back of my throat but not a runny nose.

I wil try this for 2 weeks and see how it goes. I was to try the neti pot but read that if you have a sinus infection, the neti pot could spread it so I am waiting on that one.

The psuedofed is most helpful but makes me extremely jittery. Was told there really wasn't an alternative so I don't take it too late at night as it keeps me awake.

I have an appointment with a middle ear specialisth in December so that is a good fall back if this does not improve by then.

I really think this is more than allerigies and the Doc said allerigies can turn into a baterial infection if left go and I have been like this for awhile.

I just had my third sinus infection in a month and a half. Three antibiotics and still so much congestion. Finally i went to an ENT and he said the infction was gone but I was very inflamed. So, the neti pot twice a day with shot of flonase. didn't do much. I also was told to try claritain or zyrtek, becasue the sudafed makes me very jumpy and jittery as well. My anxiety has been bad lately so I bought the zyrtek but didnt' take it yet. I do take benydryl at bed to sleep and unclog a bit, that helps alot.

unfortunately I haven't found anything that works completely and it is quite annoying ot be so blocked up, not even stuffed, just feel so much pressure. it sounds like you have the same thing. try one of the otc's, they may work.

Feel better.

Hi Enough-

Sorry to hear you are experiencing the same thing as me. Do you have the head noise (tinnitus) as well. I feel like I am living with a sea shell over my head. That is what it sounds like. I don't feel the head pressure right now but I hear the noise and I haven't been able to pop my ears for 2 months. I should take another sudafed tonight but afraid I won't sleep.

I hope we both feel better soon.

I sometimes get a ringing or thumping in my ear. The ENT wasn't concerned at all. So, i guess that is tinnitus. Yes, Ihave to pop my ear a lot. Also, I have really bad tmj in both jaws that adds to the ear problem and it is really bad right now. Make my ear hurt in and around it,my head too. Maybe you have that too.

Perhaps you could try cutting out dairy for a week or two. Many people have sinus issues related to dairy consumption. It increases mucous production.

Hi Enough

I may have TMJ issues as my jaw pops all the time.

I don't really have ear pain just constant pressure. I haven't been able to fully pop my right ear for over 2 months and my left ear for over a month.

I hope whe this clears up, my ringing will stop

I also have the sinus pressure, clogged ears, tinnitus and achey teeth. My dentist told me it's tmj so I'm going to see an orthodontist in a month. This is going to drive me nuts!!

I have had many sinus infections over the last 6 years. I saw 2 ENT specialists and they all did nothing. I find that the only thing that helps is Advil Cold and Sinus Extra Strength every day and 2 sprays in each nostril of a medicated nosespray. Sometimes, I use a facial sauna or a very steamy shower to open my sinuses. When I am tired, the ringing is worse. Hope this helps.
