It just occured to me that perhaps I should be taking my vitamins in a certain order. I take Vit D, Calcium/Magnesium, Vit B12, Vit C and Omega 3. I just take them randomly throughout the day.

Does anyone know if there is any such order for consuming vitamins? Do you take yours randomly or do you have a certain schedule for certain vitamins?

Thanks for any feedback smile.gif

Karen

I take my B12 first thing in the morning; cal/mag and EPO after breakfast.
I take B complex, C and anything I feel I need a little extra of with lunch.
I take my multi at dinner.
I take my fish oil right before or after exercise.
I take cal/mag/d/zinc and more EPO before bed.

This is just a routine I've found works for me through trial and error. I don't take everything every day.

A few rules I've learned and follow:
Don't take calcium and iron at the same time.
Fish oil is used best with exercise.
B12 lights a fire first thing in the a.m. (sublingual methylcobalamin)
B's are bad to take in the evening - might pep you up.

I am curious to hear from others too.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Nanc for your reply. You really have a great system for taking your vitamins. I've just been doing some research on multi vitamins, I'm thinking, wouldn't it be easier to take one vitamin and let it go at that?
I'll try taking the B12 before breakfast and the calcium after breakfast, as you have suggested. I just noticed that you take a multi along with everything else, I never thought of that. Is it best to take a multi along with the others?

It does help, thanks smile.gif

Sometimes I forget to take them early in the day, or don't get the chance, and take all of them after dinner! Not ideal perhaps but providing I take them with food, I don't get any ill effects. I took them all late at night once on an empty stomach. Bad idea.

Hi -

I take Bs - they are very good for the blahs for some. My gf gets the blahs - don't know why but she does. I think that they are great for energy levels as well. Another thing that I have heard that B compex is good for is stress levels.

Good luck with finding a regimen - I am most impressed with nancw!

Sincerely,
Suz

I'm also very impressed with Nancy's regimen smile.gif

I take B12 because when I had my lab tests done, it showed that I was deficient in B12 and my dr told me to take a supplement. I know if you don't have enough B12 it can cause anxiety. That said, I take the supplement and I'm still anxious as all hek.

Hugs,
Karen

Hi Valerie,

I take 500 mcg daily. This is what was suggested by my doctor because of my B12 defficiency. Do you know if you're defficient in B12 or is it just something that you want to take? I would definitely check with your doctor first. I was told if you take the wrong amount, it's not good.

Hope this helps,
Karen

I can't believe you just wrote that! I told my husband that I've been having a lot of headaches lately, and I think it's because of the B12. Three weeks ago I started taking it as suggested, and for the past three weeks I've been having bad headaches. I didn't put the two together until you mentioned it. I'm going to research that and see what it says. Watch this space............

B12 makes me hungry. Maybe I'm nuts, but I am starving when I take a lof of B vitamins!

Wow - lots of action on this thread! biggrin.gif

I supplement a lot because I've been wrestling with food sensitivities/intolerances for a few years now. My regimine is always changing depending on how I feel, what I'm eating (I try to eat seasonally), and my doctor's recommendations. I take the multi every day to fill in the gaps, and because RDA's can be wayyy off from what we really need. While I have not had my vitamin levels tested, I know what I am missing becasue I have cut out entire food groups, and supplement accordingly. I can tell when I am eating well, because I don't need as much supplementation!

B12 - I use a lot of B12 because it is something that is malabsorbed by a damaged digestive tract (which mine has been). There is no toxic level of B12 (per my nutritionist) like there is for many vitamins. I tolerate 5000 mcg (micrograms) daily, quite well, but I built up to that over a six month period. B12 gives me energy and mental clarity. B6 has been helping a lot with my PMS. Cal/Mag is awesome for muscle/bone/joint pain. Vitamin D is now in the news as something that almost everyone in the northern climes is deficeint in. I recently upped my dose from 200 mg/day to 800.

Yes - always take with food. I used to "gut bomb" occasionally and take too many at once. Big mistake!

Just read in this months Prevention Magazine that you should take your daily baby aspirin just before bed, not a vit. I know but thought I'd add the info from a reliable source. Jill

Good question Karen! I try to spread out my vitamin intake throughout the day. It's a good idea to read the labels. I'm supposed to take my fish oil capsules on a full stomach. Not sure about the rest. Think I'll go read the labels. rolleyes.gif
