I read the other day that CoQ10 can be good for your blood pressure so I decided to give it a try. This is only my second day...anyone else using CoQ10?
leanne0721
I take 100mg everyday. I saw Dr. Atkins on Larry King a few years back and Larry asked if the house caught fire, what would be the 1 vitamin to grab as you go out the door. He said CoQ10. So I take it.

I don't have high blood pressure, but my hubby does, and he needs medication for it. He has taken CoQ10 for a few years now, and when he goes off the BP medication, his BP goes right up, so it doesn't help with him.

This is what the Mayo Clinic says about it:

"Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. CoQ10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ10 levels.

Levels of CoQ10 in the body can be increased by taking CoQ10 supplements, although it is not clear that replacing "low CoQ10" is beneficial.

CoQ10 has been used, recommended, or studied for numerous conditions, but remains controversial as a treatment in many areas."

I take a lot of CoQ10 -- 1,200 per day -- because I have a foot tremor that may turn out to
be Parkinson's disease and my neurologist told me to take it for neuroprotection.

I like it -- the only side effects seem to be more energy! (oh yeah, and poverty, at this high dose it gets expensive.)

I take 200mg one tab twice daily.... gives me more energy, and assist with a host of issues, listed above...

I buy it through my naturopathic doctor...

Also a few years ago I read that anyone taking a statin must take it as well. Doctors never told their patients this. It is also good for your gums, so if you have periodontal issues taking that daily will help.

My sister swears by it and persuaded me to try it. However I found it hyped me up and I couldn't sleep! Is it just me???? ohmy.gif

DH been taking it for almost 4 years, I think, and still had to start BP medication. He still takes it just for overall heart support or may be because he is used to it by now wink.gif, but I think in some cases supplements not enough to lower BP naturally.

I have read it helps to minimize muscle damage while taking cholesterol lowering drugs (aka statins) and it may be helpful with BP, but now I am a bit skeptical of supplements.
It does not hurt to try, if you do, Costco has a good one, USP grade, it is in peanut oil as it is fat soluble. If you can't tolerate peanut oil, get another brand but only those in oil, otherwise, you body won't absorb it.
Meat, especially red, poultry, and fish have plenty of CQ10, so if you consume enoguh animal protein and some organ meats, you should have plenty of this enzyme.

I respect late Dr. Robert Atkins tremendously for his hard work in challenging so called "politically correct nutrition", I have read his books, and totally agree with his theory.
However, himself, he had cardiomiopathy, and died from a massive heart attack, which actually caused his fall.
I used to take 200 mg of CQ10 for couple years also, did not see much difference in the way I felt. I just make sure now to eat red meat more often (once a week at least): lean, grass fed, and eat organ meats 2-3 times a month.
Keeping carbs low also helps to lower BP more than anything else, unless there are other conditions like kidney stones that make it hardly possible to avoid BP meds.

Is it safe to take coq10 if you are taking blood pressure meds?

Yes, it's safe. It's very helpful for the heart and many other things. Especially important to take if one is on a statin drug (cholesterol-lowering). Statin drugs have many adverse effects and are usually not necessary, but that's a whole other topic.

I've been taking CoQ10 for over a month and I'm pleased with how I feel. I believe that it helps my joint aches and pains especially in my shoulders. Anyone else noticed that it helps their arthritis?
enough
I have been taking it for two months and haven't felt any different. I also take glucosamine with chondritin for the arthritis and was without it for two weeks and boy do I feel awful. I hope one of the three kicks in soon.

I dont' know anything about it helping blood pressure, but I think it's really good for you, so I hope it helps you.

My faith,
It's good to hear from you again. I hope you've been well.

Hello Enough smile.gif. It's good to hear from you!

I went a couple of days without taking the CoQ10 and my body has been aching the last couple of days. I'm not sure if the lack of CoQ10 is the reason or the mental stress I've been going through at work. Could also be allergies...anyways I've started back today.

Here's to our health smile.gif.
