I HEARD IT WAS BECAUSE A DROP IN BLOOD SUGAR. WHEN I WORKED IN THE HOSPITAL, DIABETICS WOULD HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS AROUND THAT TIME.

Hi LadyNRed

I don't know either. It always seems to be two or three for me. I guess we'll have to wait to see what the other ladies say.

For the past few months I jerk awake at 12:30 am ,why I do not know but it is irritating.GOD-bless

Here's my little theory on this - it's kind of out there, but here it is:

I'm convinced it has to do with the moon. I have noticed that I wake up in the middle of the night - anywhere between midnight and 3:00 AM. I usually try to stay still, keep my mind clear and just rest rather than turning on lights and getting my mind activated.

Around 5:00 AM, without fail, I can feel something in my body shift - I cool down, relax and drift off to sleep.

Also, I can almost always guess when a full moon is approaching - my anxiety and emotions are stronger, even hot flashes become stronger and more frequent.

I'VE HAD THE 12:30AM JOLT TOO, BUT ONLY ON OCCASION. MINE USED TO BE 330AM AND THEN BUMPED ITSELF UP TO 2AM

So strange!! Maybe it is hormonal?

I got up last night or should I say early this morning around 2 am. Have done it a few times before. Usually I eat a little something, too. I go to bed at 10. Wake up around 12:30 and can't fall back asleep. Toss and turn. Look over at the alarm clock every couple of hours. Might fall asleep for a bit. Finally get up around 7. I used to take a nap in the afternoon but not anymore this past year. I don't feel tired during the day now.

Just to reassure you, it happened to me for a couple of years, but now I am over a year without my periods, it has been pushed back to between 4am and 5am!...eventually I'll get to 6 or 7am which would be nice!!

I always wake between 2 and 3 am. I usually go right back to sleep. Lately more often than not, I am awake every hour during the night. I have no idea what is causing it, other than my TMJ pain. I can count on a fairly good nights sleep every third night. I think it is from exhaustion. Does anyone else have a pattern like this?

Hi Ladies,

I haven't noticed a particular time. With me, it's more a matter of how many hours I can remain asleep. Usually I wake up after 3 or so hours, and depending on who knows what, go back to sleep within 10 minutes, or not at all.

I always had bad pms, even in the good old pre-perimenopause days, and DID notice that I would have insomnia during a full moon.

I think it depends on when you go to bed. If I manage to fall alseep before 11 pm, then yessiree, I'm wide awake at 2 am. If I go to sleep after midnight, I always wake up at 4 am. So it seems like I have a 4 hour sleep cycle.

I hate sleep. It's so elusive..so hard to get there, and stay there. And every single night I have weird, vivid, often distrubing dreams. I went through 2 or 3 good nights last week where I kept dreaming that Hugh Laurie (the guy who plays House on tv) and I were in a romantic tryst, but then I felt guilty about it, and Hugh went away. Sigh...

That's so funny RR....!
And, I am with you about the weird dreams. I've been having those a lot lately also. They wake me up, then I have difficulty going back to sleep.
I too hate sleep. I used to love getting into bed with a book and drifting off to sleep, then waking up refreshed and happy in the mornings. I think the last time I felt like that was about 20 years ago before my first child was born......;-)
Sometimes, if my sleep deprivation has been really bad I actually dread getting into bed. I worry that I'm not going to sleep AGAIN.

I wake up between 2 and 3AM almost every morning. I could go to bed at 8PM or midnight, it doesn't seem to matter. This has been going on for YEARS! I use to panic when this happened, but now I just roll with it. I'm so over all of this that I just can't get worked up anymore blink.gif I've read it's caused by a dip in cotisol, then I read it was a dip in estrogen, now I think it's just a DIP! tongue.gif It's just so WHATEVER! biggrin.gif

Hi -

For me, it is usually 3:00 a.m. What I do now is leave the radio on really low in case I do wake up. Why? Because this is the time that our minds work overtime...ruminating occurs. I have the radio on a very provocative radio show and it gets my mind OFF my troubles or whatever. It works! Been doing it for over ten years and as a result, I have so much less stress and sleep so much better. Sounds contradictory in fact but it has helped me from tossing and turning.

Sincerely,
Suzanne

I've been having weird dreams, too. And I also wake up at about 2 or 3am and then I roll around for a couple of hours. I have a sciatica problem tho so that doesn't help. I've also never been a good sleeper.

Yes it seems like the witching hour is 2 or 3. for me also. Im not sure why. I just know that when I start the tossing at that time that I know I will have a rough day, because of lack of sleep. Yes the dreams are also a mind blower..wow when you think you have had enough here comes something else.
Hang in there all

I finally slept last night. Went into bedroom at 9pm and was sleeping in a few minutes. Didn't wake up until 4am which was good for me. One night it was 330am and the other was 230! argh. So I was happy with my 7 hrs sleep! tongue.gif

I also have been dreaming weird dreams, and I'm not taking any medications or herbal supplements at the time for sleeping. I've seen where people write that some supplements cause dreaming. I'm wondering if they're sure it's the supplements or not.

Last year I took that Chantix to quit smoking. 1 year and 7 months with no cigarette! yeah! But anway, that Chantix caused some pretty weird dreams. I had to cut the dosage by 1/2 and only take it in the morning. I didn't even finish the prescription because I didn't like the crazy dreams. I'm glad I stopped it with all the controversy going on about it now.
