I have have the internal shaking on and off for two years, sometimws not at all. Lately that and anxiety go hand in hand. I know my gyn siad after my hormone test a month ago, I should be in full men in 6-9 months. I guess that's why I am up and down with my anxiousness. I believe that I feel like I have restless body symdrome. Just when you want ot relax, the legs, go, the arms, I just want to get up and dance. Would be weird at the supermarket or work, huh?

Does anyone else feel that way? Just curious.

[/quot One of the strangest things happening in peri is what I call restlees leg and arm syndrome! Not just my legs but my arms feel jumpy too! I have to get up and move.I hate it.GOD-bless

Yes, I get restless body syndrome too! I like that definition! It is just the same, I am trying to relax and I feel like my body is going to do "funky chicken", or something like that. My legs will twitch or jerk, sometimes my arms or shoulders, head, stomach..whatever. It makes it very hard to relax.

So, you are not alone..and I am glad I am not alone either.

Take Care,

Sunny~

For me just started about 5 weeks ago and already driving me insane. I may make matters worse by stressing over it so much thinking that I have some dreadful uncurable disease. Mine is pretty much all day long, begins once I get up in the morning and move around but subsides once I fall asleep. It seems mine is mostly in my legs and arms but then if feels like my whole body. I feel shaky alot and wish I could just forget about it which would probably help rather than making it worse but hard to relax when your body feels like you sitting on a vibrating machine. Just hope soon I will be back to feeling my ol' self before I go crazy with this. But it is a big relief knowing that I am not the only woman suffering with this and that I am not ill. So thankful to have found this forum.

Hi All-

I have been experiencing this too this week. I am pretty sure it is realted to anxiety which I suffer from big time off and on since peri started. Never before. It too starts when I get up and until I sleep which I haven't done much of lately. I can be sitting at my desk at work and I can feel mostly my leg muscles jumping on their own or my legs will just tense up. Like I just can't relax. I haven't had this in a long while and it really started to freak me out a bit. Glad I found this thread. My anxiety kicked in this week big time. Wasn't like this a week ago.

I can't wait till this is over and done with. Still have not missed a period.

Hello all.. well here I am at this board, and feeling a bit better after reading the posts.. I am almost 42 and feel the past 6 months I have not been myself at all, horrible panic attacks and high anxiety, can't sleep, feel the electricity in my hands and feet alot, and oh my the jerks and twitches at night - I am not sure if it is peri but it is possible I guess. I am on the BC pill so I dont know if that would make the symptoms less or not, I just know I feel *off* all the time now.

thanks to you all for being out there..

I'm on the pill too and it helps the symptoms be as strong, but they are still there. the anxiety creeps back and so does the shaking sometimes. Even breakthrough bleeding , so the pill cant' always keep up with our bodies.

Glad you're her and hope you feel better.

I am bumping this because I have been experiencing this again lately..ugh!! Does anyone else feel like when they are in a relaxed state, like their body feels "ansy"?? Like your arms, legs, torso, whatever, like it is just going to richochet up in the air or something? That is what I feel like once I lay down to wind down for the day lately. My body feels almost like it is tensing up, and my arms might twitch or jerk a little or my legs. And then when I try to go to sleep, just as I am about to fall asleep, my body will jerk. I know I have posted about this before..just hoping for some MORE reassurance..because I am again convincing myself that I have MS or a brain tumor, ugh, it is horrible. Last night I had worked myself up so I was so anxious at bedtime, I think I jerked and twitched just because I was thinking about and was so scared of it!!!

I have been taking Benadryl at night, which is helping me sleep but maybe making the ansy, jumping, twitching and jerking worse..who knows....

Thanks for reading..hope you all have a "non-hormonal" day..remember those??!!

This happens to me almost every day as long as I am moving around doing something I am fine but when I stop my body feels like it is still moving. This ia a very unnerving experience.

It is possible that you would do well with calcium and magnesium. Take a couple at the first sign, and add liquid magnesium, too. Potassium has an effect on muscle contraction. too. All of the supplements will help, but I believe that you are suffering from a lack of magnesium. All of these supplement are inexpensive.

I agree with Shebee. Once I started taking magnesium, these symptoms pretty much went away. I haven't had a "restless body" night for a long time now. It can't hurt to give it a try. smile.gif

Hello ladies,
Just to reinforce Shebee's post. Same here. Once I started magnesium (take it at night as a powder mixed with hot water) and made sure I had potassium in my diet, it improved right away. Also, I find that the day I can exercise make a difference as well. Wishing you all a day free from Hell-o-pause!

I get this also. It feel like you need to strech, but it doesn't help. When you lay in bed bed it feels like your hole body is vibrating. All your muscles ache and all the time. When this is really bad you wake up in the morning feeling exhausted like you ran a marathon in your sleep.

I too experienced a reduction in the severity of these jerks and spasms when I started a regular dose of magnesium citrate (not all magnesium supplements are created equal - make sure to do your research and buy good quality and the best form - mag citrate was the best form for me). The reduction in severity and frequency of these spasms is such welcome relief. Alas, even with supplements they still do happen. I am keeping a journal to see if there is a cyclical pattern. I don't take any form of BCP or BHRT - I still have cycles although they are becoming irratic.

My sister developed restless legs or periodic limb movement at peri and now so have I - I did come across some literature supporting a genetic pre-disposition for this. It only appeared for us at the onset of peri-menopause. I also came across literature suggesting that low ferritin levels were linked to this condition. My ferritin was very low and it is a slow process to get that number up through diet and supplementation.

Eventhough I accept these jerks and spasms as part of the hormone upheaval of peri - when I have voilent jerks especially in my diaphragm - I can't help myself and start thinking "MS"...then I come to PS and see others with these symptoms and worries and I calm down and try to learn to co-exist with yet another unwelcome symptom of peri.
