Here we go.......you just get over one thing (sore left breast) and you end up with something else.....RIGHT AWAY!

Yes, this morning, when i went to get up, OH BOY......REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD off balance, lightheadedness!!!!!
NOt outrightly DIZZY room spinning thing.....but ALMOST! I could barely make it to the bathroom....i was literally, holding onto the walls, and anyting i could find to keep me from walking sideways. It was like i was standing on the deck of a ship, in the middle of a storm, being tossed to and fro! WOW! I made it back to bed, somehow.....I then took a xanax, and just sort of propped myself up so i'd be in a sitting position, bec. it was worse to lay down. I sat like that for about an hour....feel nauseas as well. My husb. brought me a a few pieces of bread which i ate slowly, and some coke....well, that always helps me with anything..lol ... finally, after about an hr. like that, i took a benedryl, bec. iv'e noticed that in the past, when i've been somewhat off balance, if i take a benedryl, it really helps. Well, between the benadryl and xanax, i got tired, and fell back to sleep, which was nice. By that time, it was a TINY bit better. A few hrs. later when i woke up, I was still very off balance but the nausea had ceased, and at least i was getting somewhat better. It is now evening, and i'm telling you, it's STILL HERE!
OH gosh, i feel SO SO DETACHED! Yes, that was also a HUGE problem this morning,,,,SUPER DETACHED!
I can "sort of" walk around now, VERY SLOWLY, and still have to hold on to things. This is sickening, to be honest.
Iv'e never had it this bad!

I know others have had this, bec. i've read it........how long can this last? When i've had the off balance thing before, it would last maybe that day, and the next......but, it was NEVER THIS BAD before though.

ladies, thanks for replying.

Mydarling,

I was just wondering if you have had any issues with your sinuses or a cold or virus symptoms? The reason I ask is that there is a virus going around here that comes with aching muscles, shooting pains throughout the body, headache, nausea, a very stiff neck and vertigo.

A friend was bedridden for a week with this off balance feeling and I know a few others who have had similar symptoms.

Take care of yourself and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hugs,

Arla.

I've had the off balance thing for almost 3 yrs 24/7 to varying degrees. It's always worse from day 5 through to day 14 of each and every cycle then eases up to almost nothing from day 16 through to day 5 again. The past couple of months since I have weaned off my AD it has become alot worse from day 5 through to day 14, this time it's accompanied by severe neck tension type headaches and muscle tension in my shoulders and upper back. I can't function well with it and trying to hold a conversation with someone in person is darn near impossible which is a real issue for me as I am a hairstylist and have to talk to people every blooming day. It's the detachment that makes me mad as I feel like I'm on the outside looking in all the time and life is passing me by. I'm convinced it's hormonal as it's cyclical each and every month and has been since peri hit me hard 3 yrs ago and I also remember being like this when I tried taking the BCP many years ago. I just wish I could get rid of the lightheadedness once and for all and I'm sure I would feel so much calmer and able to cope with all the other stuff. It is also allergy season here with high equinox winds every day which I'm sure is making it worse than ever as I have some sneezing and itching issues going on too. Happens every year in October November with the wind blowing all the pollen around.

You have been lucky to not have this be an ongoing thing in the past like many of us poor unfortunates who have. I don't even remember what it was like to feel normal head balance anymore sad.gif and my hubby wants us to go on a cruise in 18 months time, sheeesh maybe the swaying boat will make me feel normal laugh.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif

I've just recently got the dizzies and thought they'd never go away. They did ONE day...then came back. I get a few dizzy like attacks a day. Go figure.

My GP thought it was wax plugging my ears and flushed out both my ears (wow, was I spinning then)....so it might have something to do with it....BUT, I'll say this for almost EVERY dang thing that has happened to me since April 07........I NEVER HAD ANY OF THIS BEFORE PERI!!!!!

Can you tell I'm upset? mad.gif I've really had enough.

I send you hugs and hope you feel better soon. It's not hard to deal with this stuff....and you are so right....as soon as we get over one thing, another one takes it's place. I'm at the end of my rope.
We're with ya.......hope it subsides soon.

We all need a break from this peri stuff.

PERI IS SCARY!! rolleyes.gif

I must be out of my mind.....my above sentence "it's not hard to deal with this stuff" was meant to read it's not EASY to deal with any of this stuff.

Wow. What a typo. Wish is WAS easy to deal with this stuff. rolleyes.gif ohmy.gif dry.gif

LOL guitarplayer!!!! i know what you meant!

I know, this stinks! and ladies, thank you all for responding so quickly! I've had off balance from time to time, since peri started, but this is really truly bad! I mean, i really couldn't walk! At least, right now, if i get up slowly, and walk SLOWLY, i can sort of get around the house ....but geez!

i don't know how anyone can hold a job with all of this.........you must be made of steel!!!!

thank you girls!!!!!

I have had a headache in the back of my head by my neck that is on and off. My sinuses are really bad and I feel dizzyish sick to my stomach and a little shaky. I resorted to 400 mg. of ibuprofen yesterday and it helped a little, but this morning, it's back. my temples hurt, so do my eyebrows and it is just awful. I am sorry you guys have this too, but am glad I am not alone.

I hope you all feel better today.

I understand. Peri has brought on a bunch of new sensations for me including the off balance thing. I am going to suggest a couple of things to you that I am doing. I have been at peri for about 6 yrs or so. I have come to expect some symptoms and just ride them out.

Get a neti pot and use it everyday in the shower or sink. this will flush your sinuses. the benedryl will fog you out too. Even if you take it at night to sleep, you may still be foggy the whole next day.

Monitor your BP and make sure it is ok.

dizzies could be anxiety, sinus, BP.

I am on BP meds but I think my dizzies are not BP but sinus.

I hope you feel better. ((((hug!)))

MD,

My first experience with dizziness was upon rising 3 years ago this Past Sept......I woke up at 5ish, went to get up and couldn't walk. I literally crawled thgrough the house until I went to the DR. and they gave antibiotics saying they "think" it is labrynthitis. Ironically I was bleeding very heavy, don't know if that had anything to do with it. This wasn't spacey/lightheaded....the room was spinning and I struggled to stand thus began my dizziness. I had it for a few days after this to a lesser degree and from then on it came and went. A year or so after that was probably the worst back in the fall/winter of 2006.....I had dizziness/spacey/fogginess/lightheadedness 24/7 for months, had MRI, allergy testing and ENT visit and the only think was allergies( don't think that is completely what has caused my dizziness since it is very cyclic, is that a word). It let up maybe a year or so ago and now I get it sporadically again....I get it more for certain midcycle......last night I had an episode.....I sort of get very heavy and feel this weight pulling me down sideways, things start to look funny and they seem to move........I know now I have to go lay down because it seems to go away after 1/2 hr or so...I was going to bed anyway so I layed down and shut my eyes and stayed calm, didn't want to move for making it worse, everytime i did open my eyes it was there like things were distorted and warping....fell asleep and woke up at 4ish and it was gone.....however I had a mild headache...after paying attn to this enough it happens alot where i Will get either a full headache or pain behind my eyes very shortly after these episodes. I try to make a joke about it now for mjy own anxiety because it is scary.....I will walk around with my arms floating up and say laaaa, laaa whooaaa, and sway my body a bit like I am light....it is hard to describe....I have had to make light of it somehow because it will cause me anxiety pretty quickly...when I do these things my DH knows exactly what happening. Sometimes I don't even try to fight it and go lay down right away depending on what I have to do.

Neti pots are excellent if you are willing to try it and you are plugged regularly like me....feels a little strange at first, but does after a few days clean you out. I wish I could give you a better time period of this disturbing sensation, but can't you are not alone in this though. HUGS MIkki

Ladies, thank you! It does help to know you're not alone! Mikki, I'm sorry about your business, that's awful!
geez, see, that's what i meant ... how in the world can any woman hold onto ANY kind of "job" or business, with this going on, I can't see it! Yet, i know so many of you do! My hats off to you ladies, because my gosh, you're stronger than I am!!!!

Now, today, it's a bit better, thank goodness! I can at least walk around the house, SLOWLY ... but i can get around.
I still feel whoozie, but not so bad. Gosh, i went from horribly painful left breast, right into this! lol ... this is really to much!
It just doesn't let up, even for a day! dry.gif

Girls, maybe what we should do when this hits us next time, is sort of just try Mikki's approach, and wave our amrs like wings.......and maybe, like Peter Pan, we'll fly away!!! lol biggrin.gif

Hello. I am fairly new to all of this exciting, frightening, frustrating, perimenopause stuff. My midwife just told me 3 months ago that I am into that phase of life. Unfortunately I'm having to deal with this with very young kids - ages 16 months, 4 yrs, and 7 yrs. Who would have thought that only a year after having a baby I'd be starting into perimenopause. Surprised me, that's for sure.

Yesterday morning I woke up feeling a little bit light headed and with a migraine. I've had cyclic migraines since I was in my early 20's so I know what those are all about. Had my usual STRONG cup of coffee and migraine meds. 30 minutes later the spinning started. I spent the entire day trying to help my kids get ready for Halloween while trying to maintain walking without throwing up. The nausea progressively got worse as did the vertigo. By 7pm it felt like the house was about 100 degrees and I was sweating like I'd just done as hours worth of aerobic exercise. By 7:30pm my period had started. The sweating stopped about an hour after it started and I could hardly wait to get to bed last night and wake up normal. That never happened! So here I sit very carefully not moving my head too fast to the side, walking as little as possible because it's a bit difficult, and wondering when it will go away!!! I wish there were a magic crystal ball that could tell me when the vertigo will go away. After reading all your stories, thought, etc. I truly worry about it coming and going regularly and my ability to take care of my kids and family.

What is a neti pot?

BTW, I am GLAD to read so many are going through this only in the sense that this is probably and truly connected to peri. I had severe vertigo 4 years ago from an infection and lost my left inner ear. The vertigo last almost 4 weeks and 3 of those I could only walk assisted or in a wheelchair. Because of the inner ear loss I had to go through rehabilitation training to help my brain to "re circuit" and essentially learn to rewalk without a significant part of my balance center. So naturally, havint vertigo again is tremendously scarey for me.

I'm so sorry so many others are having the same vertigo issues. It's rough to deal with.

Man I feel sorry for everyone! I have this on and off all the time. I work and it is aweful, but I will be danged if I will let this crap get the best of me. I just tell myself I am strong, and this is not going to control my life. It is not going to take the second half of my life. I still want to have fun. I turn 46 tommorrow and I have been riding this rollercoaster from hell for about 3 years. So I bounce of the walls a few times, dizzy or not I'm gonna live! biggrin.gif Push, push, push, it pushes me I push back!

Hi, I just have to say this is ONE of my sx.s that bothers me the most. It is almost every day. It feels like my head is clogged. Off balance. Not dizzy. Not spinning. Just as you ladies describe. Too bad my doctor doesn't explain things to me. When I told her about this she had me stand and close my eyes and pronounced me fine. No explanation at all. I have to go this alone or I think it's time to find a dr. who has more time. I worry about neuro things. Do you women h have other neuro sx.s such as slight forgetfulness. Reading a word wrong. Physical things? I hate this. My dr. has not even suggested any testing as far as meno goes and I am def. at the age and having a lot of strange symptoms. With this lightheadenes, has anyone ever taken a step and felt like you were half drunk. My husband even noticed it, if I move too fast at times, I g uess, I will look like I am going to fall. Doesn't happen often but something is off. I get no help from the drs. I am so glad to find somewhere where someone understands. Thanks, M

I get 'lightheaded' or slightly dizzy, I can only describe it like I am a video camera and the camera is shaky!

I have noticed it more of late especially when I am driving, and it has unnerved me for sure!

I am 16 months w/out a period, so can't blame it on a period....not sure what it is all about (maybe I am on this computer too much!!??)

Sounds like I was right 2 years ago when doctors tried telling me I had vertigo and I'm like "uh, no I don't." Kept trying to treat me for an ear infection that I knew I did not have. Maybe I had the vertigo, but I did not have an ear infection. You just know you're body. 2 years ago I was 38; I would not have chalked this up to hormones. I'm actually still somewhat in disbelief, but the proof in the periods is there! wink.gif

p.s. it went away about 7/8 months later. I thought maybe because I treated myself to therapeutic massage. Whatever made it go away, I was happy.

Wow, I really hope this is hormones. I hate this feeling. Combined with all the other symptoms and the normal aging eyes , aches and pains, possible start of arthritis, etc. Well, I suppose I should be doing more exercise also. But the neuro symptom are scary. I've noticed since I turned 40 nothing is the same. I even have unresolved dental issues. As in , they don't know what the cause or even what my problem is. I thought that was exclusive to MD's. I'll have to read more of this board. Very informative. M
