Ok...all my hot flashes have totally stopped.......but why? I think its been 3-4 weeks since I had one, day or night. A little history on my cycles...I skipped April,May,June, then had 2 normal periods in July and August.....skipped September, and a normal one earlier this month. I am due again this Thursday. when this happened in June...hot flashes stopping suddenly...I was at my doc's,and he said "Oh that means you're going to get a period!" And sure enough..about 10 days later I did.
So I'm seeing SOME sort of predictability, which KIND of helps me deal with the UNpredictability of all this! When I skip, I flash.....when I don't flash, I get a period.???
Anyone else experiencing the same thing? By the way, I'm 54, and just started skipping cycles about a year ago............but I've yet to go past 90 days.

My hot flashes stopped too, going on a month now, since i started making dose adjustments in my Armour Thyroid and going back on Hydrocortisone tablets for Adrenal Fatigue/Insufficiency/Low Cortisol (I took an 24 hr adrenal/saliva cortisol test and my levels are extremely low) My palps are gone, too, and no more middle-of-the-night anxiety. Still no period since March of '07, approaching 2 years now. I'm seeing a new GYN dr ( a male this time), i really wasn't impressed on my initial visit earlier this month, he did the usual medical history thing, breast exam, pap smear and pelvic exam, then gave me a script for my annual mamogram and said he'll see me next year unless i'm having problems.

I had 9 days straight of the prickly-burning-whooshing hot flashes in Jan 2007 and then went many months with none, and have had very very few since then. Now I'm having night sweats more than any other type of flash.

I could always predict when a period was coming by the cessation of hot flashes. So you are like me, when you dont get a break from the flashes, you will know it is over....maybe blink.gif or maybe not!! wink.gif After 19 months with no period and 10 months of BHRT, I still flash...although not as often nor as intensely.

Floater, what kinds of flashes do you experience now ? I'm impressed with your 10 months of BHRT. I just talked to my new gyn today and told her I want to do BHRT when my estrogen drops. I'm already doing OTC progesterone cream. I hope you're having success with BHRT even if it doesn't completely and totally wipe out all of the unpleasant symptoms. I'm sure you're getting a lot of benefit from it.

My hot spells stopped completely after I began a specially formulated herbal supplement....and carried on for a lovely, sleeping solidly, 4 months!....HOWEVER, they came back again over the last 5 weeks, not EVERY night, but at least 5 out of 7 nights a week.....I am now going to a meditation class, and after the first one I slept like a baby and for the next 3 nights too!.....then they came back.....I am going to my class again tonight hoping for the same results!!

I'll report on my findings!!!

Happy cool days!

caz, are you taking black cohosh ?

I RARELY get flashes anymore, but I've been post for just over a year now. The only time I get them is if I drink any alcohol. A glass of wine will bring one on for me! Also.. lot's of sugar. One shake and I need to stick my head in the fridge! biggrin.gif

Hi Sandra,

The herbal supplement has black cohosh, red clover, kudzu, ashwagandha, passionflower, chastree berry and wild yam in it....it doesn't give the individual value of each but a total of 1.874g

I went to my meditation class last night, but came home and watched too much tv - politics! - and let my daughter sleep in bed with me (she tosses and turns a lot!!) so I didn't get a good nights sleep and got warm a lot!

I'll try eliminating tv tonight and sleep alone!!

Hey Sandra. My hot flashes now are usually in the evening, and it is mostly my face and chest that get hot. But I go some days without getting any. I have noticed a definite correlation between the ambiant air temperature and flashes however. During the hot summer I was flashing daily, now in the cool fall it is only occasionally.

The BHRT has helped me a great deal, but I also required the help of an Anti Depressant. I recently cut the dose of the AD in half, hoping I didn't need it anymore....bad idea! I do still need it. I was/am having a recurrence of dizziness, anxiety and general BLAH again. Sadly the AD puts weight on me, but I guess for now I MUST be content with fat and happy!!

Floater... compared to the alternative, fat and happy is a WONDERFUL thing! laugh.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Just want to point out here that some fat is actually good for you. :-) The CDC found that people in the "overweight" category (but not obese) have fewer premature deaths than people in the normal and underweight categories.

http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/pressrel/fs050419.htm

Being overweight (BMI of 25-29.9) was not associated with excess mortality. The study found that 87,000 fewer deaths than expected were associated with being overweight.

Underweight individuals (BMI of less than 18.5) had a higher risk of death with nearly 34,000 more deaths than expected.

Thank you for all your responses! Its interesting how varied they can be! I'm still getting no real flashes..altho last night I did get a little warm. Still...nothing like before. And still no before. So I don't know WHAT to expect. All I know is that when the flashing ceased before, a period started. Albeit late....I am only on Day 30...they've been starting about a week late. I just can't believe that it could be all over..no periods NOR flashes. That doesn't seem possible. I'm sure a period will show up...darn!
I'm on no HRT.........although I did start a diet this summer, and I've lost 20 lbs so far...10 more to go. I'm also getting shots of B-12...wonder if there's any relation?? My "diet" is great...just higher protein, low carbs, low sugar, lower quantities, and I feel fantastic.
Just plain old healthy eating.... biggrin.gif
