Hiya, I'm feeling a bit scared at the mo, I've been fine for several months and I thought that everything had settled down but today I was just sitting at my desk when the side of my face by my ear started to feel a little numb and then it felt very painful for a few minutes and it hurt to swallow. That has all gone off now but I'm left with numb sensation from my ear down to the corner of my mouth. Of course, it doesn't help that the body goes into panic mode (I'm having a stroke!!) and then comes the nausea etc etc. I do go to the gym and my right shoulder has been playing up so perhaps its all connected. Can anyone of you lovely ladies shed some light on this. I don't know what I would do without this site sometimes. Normally when something wierd starts to happen and I get worried I can guarantee that I will read about another poor sufferer who is going through or gone through the same thing and then I know that its just peri being a pain in the a**e. It doesn't help that my marriage isn't at its best right now and I had a really bad row with my other half last week so I'm thinking that perhaps its the aftermath of that unsure.gif

I regularly had a pins and needles feeling in my face, from my ear to my whole chin, just like I'd had an anasthetic at the dentist. It sometimes lasted hours and the aftermath was just the same as a dental injection too. No longer in peri, I rarely have these wierd things happen to me now, but I'm no longer scared when they start. wink.gif

I've been to the Royal on the IOW...it's very nice place to be...lucky you!

Thanks so much for your reply Alice3, I pretty much figured that I had either done something to my jaw or it was the dreaded peri striking again, its just that the numbness struck first then the pain, at the mo its just like you say, like having been to the dentist but its eased off a little now its funny but my sixth sense tells me I'm gonna have a bad month this month, do you find this at all...
Yes the island is a lovely place to live, its nice to get off for a break sometimes but lovely to come home again smile.gif

Dear Friend

So many of these symptoms are so scary that I know exactly how you feel.About a week ago I had a searing pain through my left eye.I thought stroke and rushed off to the Doctor who said my sinuses were so congested that it caused the pain. And,yes everything seems to coincide with marital problems as our marriages really get stressed with our Menopauses and their Mid Life Crises! It's a wonder we survive but we do ,my dear.

Keep us posted. We are all hear to listen and support

All the best

Warm Wishes
Elizabeth

I've had all sorts of wierd pains and events in the last 3 years.....I'm quite sure yours is a by product of peri/meno.....funny, my marriage isn't the best either, and has been that way for about 3 + years....I think it definately adds to the symptoms one is likely to have during this time in our lives and then magnifies them!

I was at my first 'meditation' class last Weds, and met a man and his father who are Brits (as am I) and his father also lives on the IOW...small world eh?!

p.s. I slept like a baby after the meditation class!!!

I have had this plenty of times. I have tmj and it causes this. It used to make me nervous, now it's just annoying.

I am sure you are fine. Get it checked out if you need to feel better, just to give yourself piece of mind.

I hope you feel better.

Sounds very much like you are "clamping" your teeth down for long periods of time without even being aware of it. Subconsiously, when we are under stress, we "bite" down and our mouths and teeth will stay like this for a long period of time. This restricts the blood and oxygen flow to the nreves and muscles in the face, and that will cause tingling, numbness and pain. I work in a dental office, and many times through the day, we make a mental note to relax our lips, and peel our tongue off the roof of our mouth tongue.gif , -it's amazing a person is not even aware of it. Even relaxing your tongue (which is a muscle) makes a big difference. And as an aside, I would say about 80% of patients that mention these sensations are women (that means NOT men!).

Well it turns out I think that I may have been grinding my teeth because my jaw was actually painful but I also think its because I may have hurt my shoulder by doing too much at the gym... I bet its all connected in some way!
Just been reading the forum re: anger, rage etc and its so good to know that there is always someone who is going through the same thing that you are. My husband has a good heart but he is also very selfish and has over the years been incredibly verbally abusive to our sons who suffer from self-esteem problems (not to our daughter who is very confident and outgoing) and to me (he also has a very nasty temper) although on more than one occasion I have dished it out too. I realised a couple of years ago that I didn't really love him like I used to but I got drafted into working into the family business when his father died which didn't help matters. Oh its such a long story but I have come to the point where I cannot put up with him and his ways anymore, I have just switched off to him which is probably not the right thing to do but I have tried the arguing route which is not naturally me and he is so much more confrontational than I am its making me ill. I too would like to leave although I think maybe a house of my own where I could have my own space might be the answer LOL. Funnily enough I think that he is starting to mellow but I have a great deal of anger towards him. I didn't want to work in the business but I'm not allowed to get another job because he needs me.
Sorry to rant but this has been on my mind for a long time and it made me laugh reading how other ladies felt about their other halves. I probably should have posted this on that forum but don't use a computer very much so wasn't sure how, lots of love to you all, I don't know what I would have done without being able to come here
