Has anyone heard of or tried Magnesium Oil?

I had stiff, aching leg muscles so I went on magnesium tabs for it and it worked great! No more limping, soreness!
BUT, it gave me bad diarrhea after using it for a month. I went off of them 3 weeks ago and am still battling the diarrhea although it is getting better finally!

The oil is absorbed through the skin, thus it bypasses the digestive system and doesn't cause the diarrhea that so many suffer from when using the tabs.

I would appreciate any input anyone has about this.

I have used Mag oil for probably 2 years. It is great for cramps. I especially like it if I get leg cramps during the night. I get up, spray some on my legs, rub it in, and presto - no more cramps.
It doesn't cause any digestion problems. I use it in conjunction with mag pills. I can get a higher level, without the running to the bathroom.

I have even rubbed it into my temples if I have a headache. And my husband uses it anytime he is working in the yard or on the cars and ends up stiff.

I have never heard of it. I googled it and you can find a lot of info on it. Seems like there are a lot of benefits to it. You can take it orally or transdermal. One site a lady said she sprayed the oil on the skin over her heart and it stopped palpitations. This might be something to look into. I take magnesium capsule and Natural Calm powder. I have taken epsom salt bath soaks and that helps with aches. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate. Would be interesting to hear if anyone of PS uses magnesium oil. Pam

Now that sounds quite interesting... biggrin.gif

I need something that works on aches and pains...& this might do the trick...

thanks ...
Floater
Wow, this sounds interesting to me too. I avoid mag because it cause digestive upset and I just don't need that problem!! I will look into it also.

Great replies! I think I'm going to find some online and order it!
Thank you all!

OMIGOD! I've been searching for the product. I checked the 2 sites that I order from all the time and neither one had it. Then, I checked on Amazon--$35--$90!! I can't afford that!
Any ideas ladies?

I get mine from my chiropractor, and it's about $18 a bottle. And a bottle lasts several months. You only need a few sprays. It's called Essense of Life, and it's distributed by Global Light products, I think. They are in Australia. I'm not sure if you can purchase it directly from them.

I did some research on this stuff. Man, I think we all need it! Now I have to go out and find it! I am excited to try it. Between this and Vitamin D supplementation, we should be feeling great in no time!! (I wish!!)

Well, if you find it at a decent price, please let us know! I am desperate!
I'll check into what Linda posted and see if I can get it there---I doubt it, though.

I finally found a product that is affordable--$11.95 + S&H for 8 ounces. From the site Healthy Solutions 4 U.
But! Is this site reliable? Is the product reliable?
How do you find out about this kind of stuff?
4dogkids
I checked out that site, and it looks like the same stuff I have, just a different manufacturer.
I will give you one warning when you first start to use it. If you spray it on very dry skin, it may burn a bit. If that happens, mix it with a little water at first. My Dr told me that just means that you really need it. I also run a little of it on age spots, and it lightens them! I was shocked when he told me that would work. But it did! Much cheaper then fancy creams. But, you do need to keep using it or they come back. I rub it on my face at night. I didn't like the feel under makeup.

Good luck. I think you'll love it.

Linda

Thanks 4dog! I'll order it tomorrow and hope it goes through ok. It's not a site I'm familiar with and trust but it's the only one I've found so far!

I looked everywhere in town today, and couldn't find it anywhere! I did grab some epsom salts though, as that was also recommended. I wonder if I can make it??? haha!!! I will check out that website too.

I ordered it too, but ordered the expensive stuff!! I got a 32 ounce bottle, cuz I am planning to share it!! I ordered the Ocean Minerals Magnesium Oil. I hope it is as good as claimed!

I don't see that anywhere on the site.--??

I want to know---when you rub the oil on one part of your body, does it only affect that part or does it absorb into your body and help your whole system?
Floater
Barbara,

I ordered mine from a different site, I spent a long time reading about the different types of mag oil and decided which one I wanted to try.

From the reading I have done, I gather that you can spray it on your entire body for general use....to increase your baseline magnesium. You can also use it on a specific area...ie: rub in on shoulders and neck when they are aching...put some on your tooth brush before you brush your teeth to remineralize your teeth...put it in a foot bath for aching feet...add some to the bath to de-stress. My plan is to try the entire body spray and the toothbrush for starters....see how that goes. I am also going to rub some on my face, as it lightens age spots and is supposedly good for the skin. They say it might hurt to start with, if you are really deficient, and in that case, after 20 minutes you can shower it off. Your body can't use it after 20 minutes anyways.

Make sure you are also taking some Vit D and calcium. I gather they work in tandum, you need all three for any of them to work properly. I have started with the Vit D, but am so confused as to what the proper dose is. It sounds like the "new" recommendation is somewhere between 1100 - 2000 UIs a day, or up to 4000 if you aren't getting any sun exposure!

Then the calcium.....different schools of thought on that one as well. Too much calcium, particularly withOUT magnesium to offset it, can cause calcification of your internal organs, it can up your calcium blood level.....this can actually KILL you!! So honestly, I don't know how much calcium to take, or in what form! Any thoughts??
iluvtolaff
I take 600 mg. of calcium that comes with 400 IU's of D. I'm a big milk drinker so I don't take the full 1200 mg of calcium.
iluvtolaff
My order came today. I'm trying it out now.
I'll let ya'll know if it is helpful or not!
I can't remember if it works right away or takes a few weeks!?? LOL
Floater
Barb,

It is supposed to offer some immediate results. Within a couple of days. And some others which will take longer. I am curious if it causes your skin to burn or tingle.
iluvtolaff
Floater......No, it didn't burn or tingle at all. I hope that doesn't mean I was ripped off! unsure.gif
Crazy in CA
I will be really interested to hear if you both get reults from this....

I take that back! Today, I rubbed it on my legs and they itch! Like they do after I take a hot bath and my skin gets too dry.
So, if itching is about the same as tingling/burning, then I say it's working.
I'll see how it does as the day goes on.
Floater
Barbara,

If it gets too irritating you can do one of two things. Either A. Dilute the Mag Oil with water. Or B. Shower it off after 20 - 30 mintes, as your body won't absorb anymore after that time period.

Mine hasn't come yet. I am so excited to try it!

Do you feel any different? Any more energetic? Did you sleep well last night?

I read its suppose to work everywhere you need it. Its suppose to work just like the oral magnesium except it doesn't upset your stomach.

Thanks Floater, I forgot about the diluting but it's not that bothersome--only lasted about 15 minutes.
I went to work today and, for the first time in 3 weeks, I didn't limp! YAY!! My foot started aching about 6 pm (9 hours after putting it on) so it lasts a long time!
As for the energy/sleep--I don't know yet. The mag. pills didn't make any difference for that. My problem was my left leg and foot aching so badly and my left ankle 'locking up' to where I couldn't bend my foot hence the limping!
So! So far, I'm happy with the product!

Floater, I have had high calcium in my blood. Diagnosed last Jan with hyperparathryoid disease. There are 4 tiny parathyroid glands by the thyroid. They control the calcium in your blood. I had pth level checked and that was high, too. So that mean hyperparathyroid disease. I almost had surgery but general surgeon at that time wanted to do exploratory surgery to find the bad gland or glands. That scared me. I have been seeing an endocrine surgeon and endocrinologist and have my calcium levels checked. Last April, they were down to normal levels. Then kind of up a bit this summer but dr said still normal range. I go back in two weeks to get checked again. I can not take calcium supplements but can consume 1,000 mgs of calcium from food, dairy, etc. I don't think I get that much. I started taking magnesium for heart palps. I am not sure if I am getting right ratio either. My Vit D3 level was low. I don't get out in the sun much but I started taking VitD 400 IU a few weeks ago. When I go to the endo doctors, I always have to put down what vitamins, etc. I take. They never say anything about magnesium I take which is probably only about 500 mgs a day. I take 250 mg tab in the morning and 200 mg of Natural Calm magnesium powder at night. Sometime I might take a little extra during the day. Last month when I saw cardiac dr about heart palps, I had asked about calcification of the heart. He said that would show up on the echo ultrasound if I had it. I don't have it. I am worried because hyperparathyroid disease can cause calcification and left ventricular atrophy of the heart. I get so confused, too. I think my thyroid is going wacky but dr says normal on thyroid blood tests, too, except I have antibodies but not high so dr is not concerned. Well, I am!! I am going to ask endo drs about magnesium oil when I see them. I am interested in trying it. Pam
Floater
pam,

I am sorry everything is so out of balance. That is scary, I would be freaked out.

If I were you I would read up on the new studies done on Vit D and magnesium. A lot of the time "mainstream" doctors don't even know what the latest studies say. I think we need to take an active role in our health. If your Vit D levels were down, you should take 2000 - 4000IU a day, according to the new studies. And magnesium is rarely discussed.

For some reason Calcium has become "THE" mineral to take, without any advise regarding the need to take Vit D and Mag, in order to maintain the proper ratio. I feel like I am having to become a bio chemist myself, just to know how to stay healthy!!
pemmy
Oops, I meant VitD25 was on low side but still considered in normal range. Last level was 29 and it starts at 30.
There is a dr in FL who is an expert surgeon on parathyroids. He has a website that is very informative. parathyroid.com
He says if your endocrinologist tells you that your calcium is high because your Vitamin D levels are low... and wants to give you Vitamin D to make your calcium go down..this is wrong. So I don't want to be taking any mega doses of VitD as it will cause calcium level to go up high if I have a bad parathryoid gland. I think by mega doses, it is like 50,000 IU. That is why I thought I would take 400 IU. Guess that is another thing I should ask if taking 400 IU is okay. I know they are saying one needs to take more Vit D in new studies. I don't know about me in my present situation.
Floater
Pemmy,

I sure won't give any advice, I know nothing about parathyroid disease. I wish you the best of luck with your endo doc and hope they can get everything figured out for you. How do you feel? I mean does it make you exhausted like thyroid disease? Or is it something completely different?

Barb,

How goes the Mag Oil? I checked my mail and it still hasn't arrived...but mine is being shipped internationally so no big surprises there. The more I read up on the stuff, the more I want to get using it!

Brigette,

So you started?? And?? What do you think?? Did it do anything?? Do you feel a difference??
pemmy
Floater, I had never heard of parathyroids before. These past few years, I always felt tired, fatigued, aches, and pains and can't sleep nights. I thought maybe it's old age or fibromyalgia. Now I think it could have been peri-menopause symptons. Earlier this year, my bp and hr went up. I was on a beta blocker for 7 months. I got heart palps. I am not so tired during the day anymore but still can't sleep nights. I always had anxiety but worse now. Now I wonder if it's one or all of these-getting old, peri-menopause, parathyroid, or thyroid causing my problems. I did a search on Power Surge months ago for parathyroid. I did find one gal who had surgery for it. Here are the symptons for parathyroid disease. I have had most of all of them. Then some symptons overlap and could be something else. I get more confused. Pam

Symptoms of Parathyroid Disease
Loss of energy. Don't feel like doing much. Tired all the time.
Just don't feel well; don't quite feel normal. Hard to explain but just feel kind of bad.
Feel old. Don't have the interest in things that you used to.
Can't concentrate, or can't keep your concentration like in the past.
Depression.
Osteoporosis and Osteopenia.
Bones hurt; typically it's bones in the legs and arms but can be most bones.
Don't sleep like you used to. Wake up in middle of night. Trouble getting to sleep.
Tired during the day and frequently feel like you want a nap.
Spouse claims you are more irritable and harder to get along with (cranky, bitchy).
Forget simple things that you used to remember very easily.
Gastric acid reflux; heartburn; GERD.
Decrease in sex drive.
Thinning hair (predominately in older females).
Kidney Stones.
High Blood Pressure (sometimes mild, sometimes quite severe; up and down a lot).
Recurrent Headaches (usually patients under the age of 40).
Heart Palpitations (arrhythmias). Typically atrial arrhythmias.

Most people with hyperparathyroidism will have 4 - 6 of these symptoms. Some will have lots of them. A few people will say they don't have any... but after an operation they will often say otherwise. 95% of people with hyperparathyroidism will have 3 or more of these symptoms. In general, the longer you have hyperparathyroidism, the more symptoms you will develop.

iluvtolaff
Nearly every one of those are also meno symptoms!
Hmmmm.....interesting!

So disappointed!! The oil worked so great that first day but it hasn't helped at all since then!
I've used it everyday but Monday (I was off work so didn't bother with it) and nothing! Back to the pain and the limping!

Floater
Well that is disappointing. However I am gonna use mine, I am a prime candidate for low magnesium. Can't hurt me. Still haven't got it yet though.

I received my magnesium oil yesterday. Actually, I decided to order the 8 ounces of Magnesium gel with Lawang oil from Healthy Solutions 4 You. I rubbed some on my back this morning and felt almost immediate results. I think this product may have potential. I just now rubbed some on my neck. First... the smell... minty... much like Pepto Bismol... perhaps it is scented with oil of wintergreen? I feel a very slight warming sensation. I think it is working but the jury's still out.

I take it back!
It does help my lower back and calve muscles. I think I might have a small fracture in my ankle bone--causing the pain and the limping--and, of course, the oil's not going to help that! At first, the pain felt muscle-related but the past couple days, it is a sharp stabbing pain. I'll have to have it checked out, I guess!

How is everyone doing on the magnesium oil? I ordered 8 oz from here.

I got my order right away. I am going to see if it helps with heart palps. I was wondering if it would help with costocondritis.
I get pain inbetween my ribs on left side and it goes around to my back. I am hoping that will help. I used some last night and this morning. It kind of feels better. Pam

Hya Pemmy!

I too have coscochondritis. I would love to hear how this medication works on that. I haven't got a flare up now - haven't in a long time but nevertheless, I would like to know in caase I do get another one. I had one EXACTLY like you from the sounds of it: left side and radiated into the back. I sure hope it helps. Don't forget about aspirin. Pharmacist says it is the only over the counter medication that helps with it.

Sincerely,
Suzanne
pemmy
Hey, Suzanne! I have had this for years. I have been hurting for months. Went to a chiro who does active release therapy. That did help but it came back. Then it went away. A week or so ago, I wore a wire support bra and it came back. Then who knows why it comes and goes. It doesn't go away for too long. I have read something about bracing and stress causing it and to learn skilled relaxation to help. Years ago, I was in a couple of car accidents and wonder if that triggered it. I take magnesium orally, too. I am going to try the magnesium oil for this. Aspirin seems to work better for me for aches, pains, and headaches then tylenol or advil. Hope you stay flare free for a long time. Pam
iluvtolaff
I'm just not crazy about this mag oil. It only works briefly and I have to use it often.
Another thing that bothers me is--how do I know I'm getting the right amount of milligrams per day?
There's no way to tell by using it on the outside.
When I was taking the mag pills, I felt good! No aches in my legs or feet. No back pain. Very few hot flashes.
Plus I slept much better.
Without the pills, I'm back to daily aches/pains, more hot flashes, and restless sleep.
If it hadn't triggered the diarrhea I'd still be on it.
Hell, since I still have the diarrhea--7 weeks now--I might as well go back on the pills! What difference would it make diarrhea-wise??!!
Floater
The reading I have done says magnesium is one of the nutrients that isn't stored in the body, so you need to replenish it daily. From the sounds of it, it would be very difficult to overdose on it - especially using it transdermally. Barbara, are you spraying your whole body with it as well as applying it to the problem areas? And you can use it both ways too, it you don't think you are getting enough from the oil.

Mine STILL hasn't arrived!! Grrrr!!
pemmy
Mine says 8 pumps provide about 500 mg of magnesium. If using spray pump, try using 8 pumps for upper body and 8 pumps for lower body. I don't use that much. Maybe about 4 pumps. I use it on left side front chest and left side back. I rub it in. It did help the first night with aches when I woke up in the morning. . I am not feeling much from it now. Maybe you do have to use it continually. I also take 500 mg of magnesium orally. Pam
iluvtolaff
New discovery! It helps me sleep much better!
The other night, I had a hot flash, so I rubbed the oil on my chest and around my neck--where the hot flash really hits.
I went to bed an hour later. When I woke up that morning, I realized I'd slept nearly all night with only one bathroom trip!
I usually toss and turn all night.
I tried it again the next night and the next, and so on. It works every time!! YAY!!
4dogkids
I guess I didn't mention that nice side effect. It works for me every time. You spray some on, rub it in, and sleep soundly. It seems the more you put on the deeper you sleep. If you suffer from insomnia it's a God send. I don't use it every night, but I have gotten up in the middle of the night, wandered into the bathroom and sprayed myself. Back to bed and I drift right off.

Floater, Have you gotten your magnesium oil yet? If so, how do you like it? I thought for a while it was helping with my costchondritis but not anymore. I still use it almost every night.

I have been using mag oil for around four days now and I feel it is really helping with my twitching legs and general aches and pains. I apply it when needed and it relieves my symptoms but I had to reapply a few times during the day. Now I am using it when needed which might be only once or twice a day. Its seems to work well for joint pain.
I am not sure if this is just a coincidence but when I use the oil I spray it onto my hands then massage it into my legs etc....my hands seems softer and smoother !!!
I will stick with it and see how I get on. I wished it wasn't so expensive!!

can't wait to try mag oil.as for epsom salts, they used it in the old country many years ago.mix some kosher salt in the warm bathwater.just be careful how much salt you use before you soak--a tablespoon i would think.not regular sat-Coarse salt.the soak is great.
