I am exercising and watching my diet, but I am doing something wrong because I can't seem to budge the scale.

My doctor said the South Beach Diet would be good for me. It's not like Atkins where you have to go almost carb-free. It stresses eating good carbs, and cutting out white flour, white rice, white potatoes, etc., and eating more veggies, salads, etc., and lean meat, fish, chicken, etc.

I'm reading the book and it makes sense. I think part of my problem is that I have to eat gluten free (Celiacs), but I have found some wonderful breads and rolls that are wheat free. The problem is they are mostly made of rice or tapioca flour and I am wondering if they turn to sugar in my body. Hence the weight problem.

Would love to hear what anyone else has to say about this diet.

Thanks,

It works. Lindy is right tho- if you don't eat the right carbs you will get tired. Follow it as outlined in the book, and you WILL lose weight, and you shouldn't get tired. South Beach also makes some good frozen meals (especially the breakfast burittos! biggrin.gif )

You really gotta watch things like coffee creamers, salad dressings, condiments... those things can throw you off track without even realizing it. So many of these things have tons of sugar.

Good luck, and let us know how you do!!

I followed it when it first came out and I did well on it. The first 2 weeks are rough, cutting out the bread and fruit, etc. But I did lose weight 8 lbs. the first 2 weeks. I bought the little companion guide to the diet that listed all the different food groups and what foods were considered no's, yeses and sometimes. That really helped me to make good choices at the grocery store. Like for instance in phase 3...rye bread was okay. That sort of thing.

I like that fruits could be reintroduced (unlike Atkins)....and it told you which ones were lower on the glycemic chart.

Give it a try.................

Some people discover that they are gluten intolerant/have Celiac when they go on the SBD because the carbs are taken out, then added back in. As you need to comply with the gluten-free diet, you might have trouble with some/most of the prepared foods (mostly due to cross-contamination issues).

I also do not consume gluten (I am not officially Celiac), as well as a lot of other foods. The only way I have found to lose weight is to cut my carbs (except for fruits and veggies) to an absolute minimum. When I get lazy and indulgent and up my carbs, I gain quickly. Protein and every meal is key to curbing appetite and keeping the carb monster away.

The first two weeks are the roughest, but it gets better and yes, I did lose weight. Unfortunately I love carbs, and my ibs kicked in the last time, so I felt I needed more carbs. I really is good though. Energy is good, not crazy over the to, but smooth and steady all day. I think it's a great diet to live by.
Good luck. Give it a try.
