I was on levaquin for 2 weeks for an infection and now I'm sore in my shoulders, elbows and wrists. Has anyone among you had the same experience? Thanks for all replies.

Hi Michaela,Yes, I always get achey after being on antibiotics.  I have problems with fibromyalgia --and it's always worse when I've had to be on medication for infections.  I have actually heard that there are a couple of antibiotics where you're not suppose to do strenuous excercise while on them -- because you can injure yourself.  I don't know whether the one you were on was one of them or not.  Hope you feel better soon!

Eileen, how long does your soreness usually lasts?I've been off the medecine for 2 weeks and I am still very sore.

Michaela,As best I can recall, it's lasted up to a month.  For me, eating yogurt or taking acidophilus helped a lot.  Also, drink a lot of water -- I mean A LOT!  If you get worse or don't get better, have it checked out by your doctor.  As I said though, I experience this too and so far, it's never been anything serious.  Somtimes, I've heard of people getting fibromyalgia symptoms after an infection.  A good doctor can diagnose this for you.Take good care of yourself.  From one achey person to another -- hang in there! try not to worry, (I know -- yeah sure!!)

Dear Eileen, It's good to know your soreness cleared out after 1 month, I was afraid I was always going to hurt! I will try to drink plenty of water, thanks for the tip. How does a doctor diagnose fibromyalgia? Are there tests that I can ask for? So far, I've been tested for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. I've had an x-ray of my left shoulder ( the worst) and I am scheduled for an MRI  of the same shoulder. I have not yet been given the tests results.

Hi Michaela,There are specific spots on the body -- that when pushed, are very sore --sometimes excruciating.  You can look up the fibromyalgia site  on the internet.  There's a lot of information about diagnosis etc.  I have had it for many years and didn't even know that was what it was called.  There's so much you can do to control it --and a lot of times it just goes away for no reason that I know of!! The site for Fibro is www.arthritis.org.com  I hope it's helpful!  Hopefully this is just a short term problem for you caused by the infection and the antibiotics.  I hope so!

Thank you, Eileen, for all the helpful info! I too hope my soreness is only temporary, that it's not fibromyalgia.I'm pretty sure either the infection or the antibiotic caused it. 2 years ago, I was on the same antibiotic and shortly after that, out of the blue,I got tendinitis in my arm, just up from the wrist. It took a long time to clear up, but it eventually got well, until now. I've done some research and found out that levaquin is notorious to cause tendon pain and even rupture, even in the absence of any exertion. Some research suggest that the damage may be permanent. Scary!Wonder why doctors don't seem to know that?

Michaela,It seems like too big of a coincidence that the pain started after the levaquin!  I think there has to be a connection there.  Take good care of your achey body -- lots of TLC -- hot baths, good food, rest etc.  Hopefully, you'll be good as new in a few weeks!  As for why Drs. prescribe these drugs?  I think we, as patients have to watch out for ourselves!  Most of their education about our drugs come from the drug companies!  There are some really great drugs out there but not every one is for every person -- that's for sure!!  Hope you feel better soon, Michaela!

Eileen, thank you so much for being there for me.  Your caring  makes me know I am not alone and that is really reassuring. I'm afraid you're right about the drug reps pushing their stuff to our doctors. Now I feel that I need to know as much or more than my doctor just to be safe from  dangerous medicines.I hope your own achiness gets better too!
EileenG
Michaela,Be sure and keep me posted on how you are doing.  I'll be thinking about you!Gentle hugs!

Eileen,  I had an MRI of the left shoulder today. Half way through, my shoulder started killing me from having to lie there on my back motionless. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks, where I expect I'll get the results of all the tests. I'll let you know what I find out then. I don't know if it's wise but I stopped taking the anti-inflammatory the doctor gave me, because I could not see that it helped at all. Right now I'm really afraid of taking medicines! Thanks for your concern and gentle hugs back to you!

I was put on Levaquin for 7 days to clear up an infection.  Ever since I took the last pill which was just over 4 weeks ago I have been in constant pain all over my body wherever joints exists.  The pains are random, hands, fingers, feet, toes, ankles, knees, elbows, wrists...they come and go put I feel miserable all the time.  I just hade a host of blood tests done and am awaiting results....please, has this happened to anyone else and has it gone away in time?  I am so scared.
