I'm 4 years post and my hot flashes/night sweats are worse than ever....both in frequency and intensity. I suffer from anxiety and depression but am no longer on meds (I spent 2-1/2 years on Xanax and took my last one nearly a year ago) and I'm wondering if my anxiety is causing more intense hot flashes or is it because I'm off the meds.

Any ideas/thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! smile.gif

hi SuziMarie,

I am 14 months w/out a period and even though I have just gone 4 months w/out a hot flash...suddenly they are back!

I'm hoping its just a blip.

Ever had your adrenal glands tested?

I was having 'adrenal surges' which are like meno hot flushes, I did an 'adrenal stress test' which showed I had high cortisol levels and my adrenals were taking on work of the ovaries, so somewhat overburdened, so i went to my alternative Dr. who treated me and now I am much better, although whenever I get overstressed and anxious, I believe my adrenals are overtaxed again, therefore making me have 'hot'surges.

Worth a shot!

I was officially declared as being in full menopause last year after going 12 months without a period (will be 2 years come March of '09) at age 45, although FSH test was not high enough to be, but i accepted it...now i'm wondering.....
I have been dealing with tremendous sweating for 4-5 years and going through total h***, still continued to have periods but they decreased severely when i came down with Hashimoto's (Hypothyroidism). I was told by an endo (in 12/05, no longer seeing since) that my sweats/hot flashes were strictly the thyroid and not menopause (i was 43 then), although now i may agree that i'm perimeno but back then i wasn't (the thyroid was/is to blame).
I am on Armour thyroid (since 11/06) and have had to make dose adjustments ever since due to the drug being potent T3, that and the fact that my serum cortisol tested low (last year) and having definite symptoms of adrenal fatigue/insufficiency which surfaced within a month after initially starting Armour, which are sweating, night sweats, fast heartbeat, heart palps, anxiety, unable to handle stress (if you have AF/AI Armour will not reach your cells to be utilized but rather pool into your bloodstream and make you hyperthyroid when you're not, all my thyroid labs shows that my Free T3 and T4 are in the lower end of norm)

I stopped my Armour last month on the 30th to allow the excess in my bloodstream to be used up (at the same time i had a 24 hour saliva adrenal test and blood test for Thyroglobulin Antibodies, Free T3 and Free T4, done on the 6th of this month, results i don't have yet), restarted yesterday but at a much lower dose (hypo symptoms started returning) Bottom line: No sweating/hot flashes/palps/racing heart/anxiety during that time.

I have a first time appointment this afternoon with a new GYN dr.....hope i come out happy.
