Full Version: Are these things related to peri?

Hi everyone,

Here I am again with yet another question. Are bodily hair changes a part of peri or is something else going on? I have noticed that the hair on my legs doesn't grow as fast any longer...less shaving. My eyelashes (which used to be thick and long) have diminished. I no longer have to pluck my eyebrows or get them waxed, actually, I haven't had to do this for years. Is this hormonal? What about nails...my nails don't grow as quickly and they split easily. My toenails are just yucky...a couple of them keep splitting vertically and falling off. I thought maybe I had acquired a fungus from a pedi, but they don't appear to be yellow and grow back. One last thing, does a woman's overall scent or smell change during peri? Not that I smell badly (sorry - TMI!), but I've noticed a change or at least I think so. And finally, my facial appearance seems to have changed overnight. I just feel that I look older, maybe it's the lack of sleep and constant worry, but honestly, it just seems like my skin looks older to me...

Thanks for the feedback,
Tracey

I have noticed alot of hair changes with peri too. My leg and armpit hair seem to grow less and not as thickly. I have FREAKING whiskers on my jaw and upper lip, UGH!!!!!!!

I know my mom started shaving her legs and underarms less, losing hair on her head, and growing more of those "whiskers" on her face once she hit the change. I've noticed that I have to shave less, which is such a blessing since I've needed to shave daily for my entire adult life (except in winter when we can hide the leg hair biggrin.gif ).

Well, I don't have the whiskers on my jaw and upper lip YET, but I've had a few weird hairs growing out of my breasts!!!

Oh the hair changes, aren't they just lovely. I had a thread up here a few months ago about the exact same thing. I have noticed since I have been on the hormone replacement that I am growing more hair on my head (YAY, the hair loss in the shower was freaking me out) and more on the legs (bummer, gotta shave more often!). I am sure it is linked to estrogen. I read if your pubic area gets sparse it is from low testosterone. And the stray chin hairs...ugh!!! And I wax the upper lip to avoid that mustaschio look!! Sheesh, aging isn't pretty!!

Yes, i think it effects EVERYTHING! It does for ME anyway! My hair is thinner and dryer, no matter what i do, i don't shave my legs as often as i used to have to, and i like to keep them really smooth, and yet, I don't have to do it to much now ....and yes, i feel as if my face has DROPPED! (i think it's down around my knees now!) laugh.gif

Wow, it's truly amazing what hormones can do!

I've had the same hair effects and it MUST be from peri! I don't have to shave my legs as often (though I probably should dry.gif ), nor my underarms. I WISH the same were true with my eyebrows, but I still need to pluck them. Every once in a while one eyebrow hair grows way out of control, and curly, so it becomes noticable. I've also got dark hairs above my mouth on just one side that appear a few days before my period starts. I have to pluck on them every month. My mom never has to shave anymore. I think it has something to do with lowered hormone levels?
