The husband brought home some kind of bug last week...maybe the flu? He had mild respitory symptoms for three days and then was fine. I caught it and went down for the count. During the height of my discomfort my old friend panic resurfaced. It was very ugly for 24 hours, even xanax did not calm me down. I've experienced this before...there is a direct link between a stuffy head, ears and chest and my panic response. I go absolutely nuts and pace the floor like a maniac. I'm sick of this...sick of catching every darn thing that comes around and sick of freaking out when I do. So, for the first time in my life I'm seriously considering a flu shot. Actually, my mind is almost made up...unless anyone has any real negative feedback.

Hi She Beast,
Ive only ever had a flu jab years ago when I was at work.
I was left with a very red arm when the injection went in and it was hot to touch as well I felt grotty after and have never had another one.

In my opinion you should do what you want to and if you feel you need a flu jab then go get one.
I prefer to let things run their corse as sometimes you put lots into your body and it kills all good bugs as well as the bad bugs which makes it hard for your immune system to fight things.

Take care from Deb

I get my flu shot every year and have for the past 9 years. I had the flu once and it was NOT very much fun. The only reaction I have ever had was a sore arm for a few days. I never had the flu after receiving the shot.

I started having the shot because I cared for a person with emphysema and didn't want to risk contracting the flu and possibly giving it to him. Now I work in retail and am constantly exposed to the public so I continue having the shot as a preventative measure.

Hugs,
Kleeo

I agree with Kleeo...I get a flu shot every year. I work at an elementary school, where germs fly around like crazy! About 4 or 5 years ago, there was a shortage of flu vaccine, and I was unable to get a shot. In February I came down with a horrible respiratory flu virus and missed a whole week of school. I had a cough that I thought would never go away. I am convinced that getting immunized every year is worth it - even if my arm is a little sore for a few days.

And, contrary to popular belief, the flu shot does NOT cause the flu!!! In my opinion, the more people who get immunized, the better - the less sickness we would have floating around all over the country each winter.

I say get that shot...it won't hurt, can only help!

Hugs,
Di

Hello 'she-beast
Have to say I have only had the flu shot once a few years ago and it made me ill.Probably a personal reaction but since then I have steered clear and so far only mild colds but dreadful sinuses. And yes I agree there is a big correlation between stuffed heads and panic feelings

I think honey, you have to do what feels right to you.My husband really believes in them and has a jab religiously every year and stays pretty healthy. My 86 year old Mum always has hers too which I think is good as she has a very compromised immune system after her Colon Cancer.

Sorry,I haven't been of much use

Let us know what you decide

I'll weigh in here too--I am "pro flu shot!" Get one every year. The one time I didn't, I got very sick and was out of work for 3 weeks with pneumonia.

I'm sorry you are getting sick so much. Not everyone will agree with me on this, but I'm a big believer in vitamin C---LOTS of it. When I think I"m coming down with something, I will take 1000 mg every hour all day. A gram an hour is a lot, and you have to drink a ton of water with it, but it has staved off many a cold for me...just a suggestion...

Ladies,

Thanks so much...I'm going to do it. I'll call my doctor tomorrow and see how to go about it.
