Hi everyone,

Well, here it is a beautiful Saturday in MD and I am agonizing over yet another symptom. Normally I wouldn't, but you know how it is with anxiety getting the best of us.

Has anyone experienced an increase in mouth sores during peri? I would occasionally get them, but lately, I've had more. This month alone I've had 3... 2 on or near the tip of my tongue and a canker sore on the bottom inside. I am fighting a vicious sinus infection right now, not sure if that is the cause. I remember having one last month on my tongue as well. I am taking vitamins, sometimes a multi-vitamin (causes constipation and stomach problems for me) and sometimes simply the B's and D along with magnesium, potassium and biotin. Should I now worry about this too? I am trying to do everything possible to feel good again, I am so saddened by my life right now.

I am so sick of these weird symptoms, I no sooner get rid of one (or not) and the next weird one appears. I cannot deal with this. Do most of you suffer from many symptoms at the same time?

Thanks for your advice,
Tracey

Tracey, I have had problems with canker sores all of my adult life. There was hardly a month or 2 that went by that I didnt get them. A friend told me to load myself up on L-Lysine. I did it and it worked. Whenever I began to feel a sore pop up I would take as many as 5 of them several times a day. Before long I noticed I was not gettting them at all. I cannot even tell you when my last episode was. I hope this helps.

L-Lysine works great for me too.

Tidalwaves, imo, this sinus infection definitely is creating a flare-up of these canker sores. I hate those things. Rinsing with warm salt water and staying away from anything spicy or citrusy should also help any pain you may be experiencing.

I am so glad to hear that someone else found relief with L-Lysine. It takes a while to work, but once it gets into your system, it works miraculously! The dr's had told me there was nothing they could do, I had to live with the nasty canker sores. Not true!

Hi,

I was plagued with these all my life, sometimes 5 in my mouth at once - couldn't talk, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. A couple sent me to the ER, as they became so badly infected. They hurt so badly!

The good news is that for me they are VERY VERY RARE in post-menopause! smile.gif They were definitely estrogen-related, as they were always worse the week before my period. They seem now to have gone the way of breast cysts - wheee! A relief!

I found two things helpful while I dealt with them. Be careful eating any kind of nuts - they scratch the surface of the mouth, and always set me off. Also, if I withheld any milk products when one started, I could often nip them in the bud. I have NO idea why this would be the case, but it really, really helped. Too bad I didn't figure it out until my later 40's, but I've passed this on to my daughter who's in her 30's, and it helps her, too. At the first notice of that little sore spot, no milk, cheese, ice cream, etc. for 24 hours. Try it!

You might notice if they are related to your cycle, too. They were for me, and they are for my daughter.

(((HUGS)))
