Hi, not sure what this is but I am having this pressure feeling in my temples and goes across my forehead in waves. It is not really a pain, but just that strange pressure-type sensation. Feels very sort of superficial, not really deep in my head. It comes and goes and it is new to me. Never had that before. Yesterday it was associated at times with a little pain but nothing much. Has anyone had that and what is it? I wonder if it has to do with sinuses? I do get a stuff nose for years now, not a runny nose, just a stuffed up feeling. At times I sneeze, but not much mucous. Sometimes one nostril will be totally blocked. I guess I got used to that but now this head thing is strange. Thanks for any input.

I get that every single morning of my life - and I do believe it is sinus congestion from laying down all night....usually after I am up for an hour or two it subsides but it really depends on the weather....right now it is allergy central here and that makes it worse!
I don't think it is anything to worry about but it sure is uncomfortable! Hang in there, this too shall pass!

hi bchgrl65 ....
yes, i've had that. Actually, I had temple pressure on the left temple only, for 6 weeks straight! It was lovely!
I took Benadryl to help it, and sometimes it did, and sometimes it didn't. It MAY be sinus, I'm not really to sure, but one day, it was gone. I have had sinus problems for years, but that was really something. It felt like someone had their thumb on my left temple, and was pressing inward. This just stayed there, all the time, for 6 weeks. (well, there were brief times when it would vanish). I was told it was sinus, allergies, whatever..... but in the end, it went. Never returned.....then I learned, that during peri, you can have temple and head pressure. So, there you go. That's most likely what it's from.
I hope this helped somewhat....sincerely, mydarling

Hi,
You describe exactly what I have word for word! For me it started about a month ago.
The pressure feeling is worse at night. I also have ringing in one ear since a few years and this pressure feeling makes that worse also. My right nostril is totally blocked every nicht. Sneezing sometimes gives some relief.
I would really like to know where this comes from. I doubt it is real sinus infection. My mother has haved those for years and her symptoms are rather different then those that we experience.
Guess this is just an other lovely unexplainable symtom of peri!

Thanks for sharing with me ladies. Today it was not bad, had it about twice. I read somewhere it could also be anxiety causing muscle tension in that area, also sinus issues, and also read about grinding your teeth while sleeping can cause this. I had a root canal in June and I swear I wish I had just extracted the tooth. The tooth still gives me trouble mostly at night and I do find myself grinding down on it even though it hurts a bit. Oh well, who knows. Hope it goes away and stays away. It almost feels like spasms when ithappens.

Dear Friend
Tension and tooth grinding may well be the culprits. My dentist prescribed muscle relaxants for a week plus a special mouth guard to wear at night to stop my grinding.Really did the trick
Do hope you get some relief

I know this feeling well. I've had a tension type headache (pressure around my entire head - like I'm wearing a tight cap) for almost 2 1/2 years now and no dr. has been able to help me. I've had CT Scan and MRI when it all started. One neurologist had me try 5 different medications and I got reactions to all of them. He then referred me to Headache specialist at Columbia in NYC who tried 10 days of steriods - didn't help. He then tried occipital nerve block shots...it didn't help. I tried physical therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture, as well as various over the counter medication. Nothing has given me relief and it's ruining my life. I live like this every day, and I have had it be less intense where I have just a slight tightness, but this past week it has been horrible. I'm in tears as I write this and I will pray that you find relief. Please pray for me too.
Hugs,
Karen

I also have the band around the head feeling and the temple and over eye pressure. I am 2 years into meno and on HRT. I know if it hormonal and/or anxiety but just how to cope with it. I have tried everything. What really helps me is taking a nap cause it seems to be worse in mid-day. The only consolation I haev it the woman I work with had the same exact thing going through menopause and it eventually left with all the other symptoms. Best of luck and feel better!

Oh my goodness! I signed onto PS in desperation to do a search on "teeth clenching or grinding", "head pressure", etc., never dreaming I would find this conversation! Of course, I'm not happy that others have these symptoms, but honestly, I have been worried something really bad is going on with just me-- bad as in brain tumor, etc.
My head feels like someone has wrapped a scarf around it and has tied it as tightly as possible (Karen and Springsjean, much like you describe), my teeth are sore, and it feels like my eyeballs are being pushed out of their sockets from behind. I thought mine was due to sinus but now I'm not so sure. The last two weeks for me have been extremely stressful due to some issues with my husband's family (too crazy to explain!) and that is when I first noticed it. I have honestly been worried that it was my blood pressure and it has been up a bit, but nothing extreme. I catch myself biting and grinding my teeth together and sticking my jaw out, instead of relaxing it. I don't have these nutty symptoms all the time, and they are definitely amplified when I focus on them! Is this all due to stress?? Geesh, if so, I need to learn some new coping methods really quick. And if this is another menopause symptom, I think I'm just going to croak!!!

I also have the palpitations, but those are never ending here lately.
Thank you for listening, lovely ladies, and take care, everyone!

Elizabeth, how long did you wear the mouth guard? Were your symptoms triggered by a specific stressful situation? I have been taking Ativan in a very low dose, thinking that would relax my teeth clenching, but it's not working very well. I have a dental appointmen on Oct 27 if I can hang in there, & I plan to ask him about all this. Thanks for your info!
Bchgirl, I hope you find some help soon-- it's no fun! And thanks for posting this question!

Thank you ladies for your replies. Bluewillow, I don't know what really caused it, but that spasmic tight feeling went away and now am getting daily headaches. I really don't know the cause, I can only speculate. Perhaps it is my eyes needing a checkup, sinuses,or stress. I dont know. I started getting on and off headaches now for couple of years. I woke up 2 Saturdays ago with a headache and I knew it was a period headache and as expected it came later that morning and has been lingering since. Like I mentioned before, ever since I turned 40, all hell just broke loose. No kidding. Hope u feel better. Getting old really does ****. Maybe am just in a funk. I need a life (and a man, hee hee).

Gee what a mystery this can be... I had wondered also if my vision was causing the tightness/pressure thing. I haven't had an eye exam in several years and I am definitely having trouble there, but am waiting until after I completely finish my cancer treatments in November, since all those drugs can affect the vision. I'm really glad to hear the tight feeling went away for you and hope you find the cause of the headaches. Could it be your sleeping position or your pillow? I have changed my sleep position recently and wonder if
that could also be a clue to the tightness/pressure thing for me...
Sometimes I think I need a life too to make all these crazy old age symptoms go away! And often I think my man is the cause of my ailments! Want mine?

Naw, he's really a wonderful one-- I think we just get on each other's nerves sometimes... Take care and hang in there!

Bluewillow, there is a great article on the web in the CNN health library under tension headaches which relates that tight band feeling to hormones. I get so obsessed trying to figure out how to get rid of symptoms that the stress makes me feel worse (or is it the stress in the first place). Anyway, best of luck to you. I actually had a good day yesterday, first one in a LONG time. I'm praying for another one today.

Am really thinking it could be my vision (possibly sinuses as sometimes I think I feel an ache around the top of my nose). Yesterday I went to Walmart and I had that same dull ache, which feels more superficial, it does not feel like a deep migraine-type headache. It also feels around my eyeballs. Anyway,at the Walmart, I really had to squint to see things in a little distance, not to mention I can hardly read fine print up close. I really think I may need glasses and not just the reading kind. I know that I have astigmatism. They say we need to get our eyes checked at least every two years, and I am now due for my two years as of September, but I have since moved and trying to get some money saved and plus I have no insurance. I usually buy my own insurance since I am an independent contractor working at home. I left one state and gave up BC/BS for that state and I really need to go purchase another one here in this state. It sure would be nice to have some form of national health care plan that I can afford. (But that is an entirely different topic altogether).
Bluewillow, am glad you are finally finishing your cancer treatments in November. I know you will do well and be a cancer survivor. This is cancer awareness month and I want to do my part on contributing. Dr. Susan Love was on "The Today Show" and I want to look into her latest fight "The Army of Women" research. I think it really makes sense.
Take care and Best of Luck to You!!

Bluewillow, I have often wondered if it is how I sleep. It is possible that my neck is not resting in a proper position as I tend to sleep fall asleep on my tummy but I usually awake on my back or on my sides and I have awaken with neck aches from time to time, so that is also a possibility. I also sometimes wake up with an arm literally numb as I am sleeping on it in an awkward position and cutting off the blood supply. Once am awake and I move it, it usually gets back to normal within seconds. It could be the 2 pillows that I sleep on. I would much prefer to sleep on one, but if I do sleep on one I will usually wake up in a panic from GERD and a sore throat. Oh boy, who knows.

I'm going to an Endodontist today and while I'm there I'm going to ask how I can be checked for TMJ...that's the only thing I haven't been checked for. I pray that all of us get relief from this soon.....please keep me in your prayers too if you pray.

You sound just like me. I have GERD too and for a long time, slept on two pillows until my neck started hurting and I still tend to bunch up my pillow where my spine is out of line with my head. I am going to stay with my daughter in a couple of weeks and I am curious to know if I have the problem then-- then I will know it's my sleep positions. I tend to sleep with my arms above my head and my dr. said that was a sure cause of shoulder bursitis. The mystery lingers...

Mine often starts in the morning, which makes me wonder if it is a sleep position-related problem. But then it hits me at other times also. I can tell if I am understress that it definitely gets worse. Then I catch myself grinding my teeth, which could be a dental-related thing like yours. Good luck!

Hi Karen,
Good luck at the endo and I hope you figure out the cause of your pain. Please let us know how it goes and what your dr. says. I have wondered about the TMJ thing too + my teeth grinding. I will be praying too, for all of you. Looking forward to hearing what you find out!
Good luck!

I have just started having this too, for a couple of weeks now. I thought I was developing hypertension. It is just exactly as you described, a feeling of pressure in my temples and forehead. For me, right now, it comes and goes over the course of a day. Sometimes it lasts only seconds, sometimes it lasts a few minutes. I don't have any pain associated with it, though.
I have only very mild allergies and it doesn't seem allergy-related. I don't believe I grind my teeth, either, though I have had several root canals--nothing recent, though. Not within the last two years. I think this really must be peri-related. Since my periods have become intermittent (I am almost 46), I have started having other mild symptoms, too, so it would make sense that this is just another one. And it seems pretty prevalent too.
I am starting daily soy drinks, to see if that might help.
