Some of you know I have a hysterectomy coming up next week, ovaries will stay. Due to this I had to come off of BCP's which had stopped all of my horrible peri symptoms. I think I am about 5-6 weeks out from taking the last one. The first few weeks I was ok, only a couple of days of mild palps. Then about 2 weeks ago I started with that shakey, nervous feeling inside it seems to happen in the evening for some stupid reason. I am back to having the arms being numb, the face tingling and last night total insomnia.
I am scheduled with Pete at Bellevue after the surgery, but between now and then I really don't know how I can stand this. It is so awful going back to feeling this way after seven months of nothing/normal. I want to sob my eyes out! My husband as dear as he is does not seem to have a real grasp of it or shall I say he likes to console me by saying oh you will not feel as bad this time, it was probably all of the other stuff the Doctor had you on that caused the worst of the symptoms. Not true I'm afraid, this is that same old same that I suffered with even when they tried me on AD's.
I know some of us never get relief, but going from having it to not having it again really bites a big one. I so hope Pete can come up with something similar to the combination in the BCP that will be safe for me when it comes to the risk of clotting. Sighhhhh. Just venting I suppose because I know you girls understand.
Off for my pre admissions testing this morning and all I can say is phoooooey on this stuff.

I feel so bad for you!! That is why I am afraid to not take my BCP,I do not want to feel that way again. Can you take some of that estrovan,or some other natural supplement between now and then,it may help a little? You are in my prayers-GOD-bless

Sadly I can't take any hormones or herbal remedies due to risks of clotting during surgery. I am disgusted to say the least. This afternoon I have a numb/tingling area running down from my nose and around my mouth.

It will all be over soon, and you can use bio identicals and feel well again!! Try and be patient (ya, right!! easy to say!) and go easy on yourself. Are you allowed to take Ativan or something like that? Just to help you rest? I know I would NOT be a happy camper if I had to stop using my hormones. If I am not mistaken (and I could be!) transdermal hormones don't cause as high as a risk for stroke as oral hormones. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure I read that in my hours of research!!
I am sorry to have had to endure this backwards slide, it is almost WORSE I think, returning to where you were. Its like you have experienced being there and you KNOW you never want to be there again...ever!! I am confident you will return to normal once Pete starts you on the bios!!

It is worse to go backwards. It is bad enough having the symptoms at the get go and even worse to face them again all over. I do have Xanax on hand and have resorted to that a couple of times lately. Hate using that crud too though but I have to feel somewhat comfortable.
Hopefully someone can answer about the topical creams versus oral doses and biodenticals vs non if there is a higher or lower rate of clots and strokes with these as well. I am sure Pete knows all of this stuff and will help me when the time comes but ya know you have that constant cloud of doom over your head when you feel like this. My big problem is and always will be smoking when it comes to any form of hrt, hoping my hospital stay will be the start of my cessation. Hubby knows we have to quit for not only my health but his it is just getting him to stop doing it in the house or car which always makes me start back up again. Being over 35 and a smoker...well ya know what that does to your risks with hrt.
I do appreciate your kind thoughts and advice, knew coming here would get me some answers and understanding.

Dr. Vliet's site (www.herplace.com) reports that the ESTHER studies showed no increase in blood clots using transdermal estradiol gel or patch therapy. It is discussed in her newsletter under the heading "What French Women Know About Estrogen and American Women Don't."

Clotting proteins are made in the liver. That is why pills can cause an increased risk of stroke and transdermal estrogen, doesn't. Transdermal estrogen enters the circulation directly.

Thank you, that makes it easier to understand.

Dear 'davinci817'
Used to be a smoker.Loved those long cool Menthol ones that Joan Collins smoked. Then one day I just felt silly, hated the smell of smoke in my hair and clothes.I also wanted to be on the HRT so just through the Packet away.Quit Cold Turkey.Begged all my smoking friends not to offer me one.It took about two weeks of withdrawal, bad temper and shakes but eventually it all calmed down and have not looked back since.
Honestly, slept better, went up and down stairs with more ease and got that smell out of my system and clothes!Saved some serious money too!
So Good Luck with that
Blessings
Elizabeth
