My periods have been all over the place and i have never known when to expect them until i noticed a pattern.....my neck gets really stiff and sore and i have migranes within the week i will have one.Whar causes this?Low estrogen?Low progesterone?

I think it is a drop in estrogen that causes migraines. Not fully sure, but I sometimes get them on the week off of my BCP.GOD-bless

Hi Lady E

My back and neck have regularly gone out at the end of my period for about 4 years, resulting in a severe headache over one eye.
Usually a trip to the chiropractor will sort it immediately.

It is definitely a hormone thing, now that I am 42 and a little further through peri, it doesn't appear to go out quite so much
It is almostlike a barmoter, of my hormones.

I would say at the eary stages of peri, and because I have endometriosis, it was estrogen dominance
Now I feel as though my overall estrogen levels have dropped.

So personally I think it is the ratio between the two hormones that is important.
I will sometimes also get a bit of a dull headache before me period as the progesterone levels take a dive.

Hope this helps

My jaws ache sometimes,I realized I was clenching my teeth in my sleep-I had to think about relaxing my jaws at night as I was drifting of-I finally stopped.

I struggle with this also. I notice that I can't handle stress well anymore....stress for me and many others ends up in the shoulder, neck area which then leads to tension headaches. I have found massage therapy to be such a blessing!!! For awhile I was getting them weekly but it is hard on the budget. I try to get them every two weeks and it just melts the tension away and if I have headaches they are gone! I sometimes think $60 bucks every two weeks is alot but I get 80 min. of pure bliss!

Wow I can't believe I found someone else who suffers from tight neck muscles and jaw. I have been battling this for two years now. I am on HRT patch though so I dont' know why low estrogen would be the cause. I am trying to find something to solve the anxiety and thought it may take care of it. This is horrible.

Hello Peri Sisters,

I get this at the end of my period cycle. I also noticed I clench my jaw alot during this time. I posted about it a couple of years back. It has eased up alot since then. The migraines have as well.

The only advice I can offer is...hot shower, dark quiet room, roll pillow into "log" place under neck, and SLEEP! This is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me.

Hugs,
Susan

Does anyone else get eye pain as well? For years I've gotten hormonal headaches during the last few days of my periods, although not every month. Sometimes I get a break. This time I think I had an anovulatory cycle, and at the end of my period I started getting little pains behind my eyes. Then the next day I got the full-blown headache. For the past week I've been dealing with this headache off and on, along with aching behind the eyes and a stiff, aching neck. All of it comes and goes and takes turns. It's making me wonder if it's hormones or if I'm ready to go back to the optometrist for another prescription. I just hate these headaches that leave me feeling so unmotivated to do anything. I'm also having other hormonal symptoms, which is why I'm really not sure what's to blame here.

Well you can count me on this one... It seems every other month about a week before a period I have extreme neck pain sometimes on one side and sometimes on both sides and aches up into the back of my head to one temple.... I also have the jaw pain with some periods.... I Used to get migraines in my early to mid 30's quite often but not now thank goodness, but at that time it was most likely hormonal and I did not connect the dots at that time...
I usually use heat and ice and take lots of ibuprofren and do neck exercises....

Hugs and I do hope this eases up for you
