Ok ladies,I have never had this before.I am on BCP,have been for well over a year now.well my symptoms while under control for the most part have been changing.Well today out of the blue I start having low menstrual cramps and some light spotting.I have never bled when it was not my period. My sugar pill week is not for another week and a half.I know women can have breakthrough bleeding but I have been on these pills for a long time, and not had that before.I really feel pms like as well-more irritated, tired etc.Anyone have any ideas?Should I be concerned or is this just another part of peri?

Hi Lady E,

While I am not on bcp, I have this cramping and spotting out of the blue. I had it alot when I first started with this stuff 3 years ago. The cramps were terrible. They were worse than the regular period cramps. I would spot for a few days ( one time 10 days, usually 2-3 days) and then it would stop. My period would show up at the expected time too. I think its some sort of hormone flunuation. When I mentioned it to my gyn she acted like it was normal. I don't think you need to be concerned at all. If you feel better, you can get checked out by your doctor if it happens again. They had me go for an ultrasound, all was fine. I'm sure it will be with you too!

Thank you so much for your reply. These cramps are low,and feel like they are near my ovaries.I remember having cramps like this as a teen-they would hurt so bad I would have to lay down. These are not that bad,but it is very uncomfortable.I feel like my body is really trying to start bleeding, but I have only spotted a little.Have a great day,and thanks again

I am really getting worried about this, the pain feels very menstrual like, but it is coming from where my right ovary is.It also feels as if my ovaries are swelled a bit?I feel like my body is really trying to start but my period is not due for another week.I have the lower abdomen ache, lower back ache, just like when I am on my period, but my right ovary has a pain every so often. Please is this something you guys have had?

Could it be an ovarian cyst? I have had the same symptoms when I get a cyst. You could have ovulated and then gotten the cyst. Timing sounds about right in your cycle. You will probably start your period on time. I hope you will get this checked out with your doc tho. Everytime I have gotten a cyst I had to have an ultrasound. I continued to have ultrasounds until they saw it shrinking. Don't worry about it tho, it's a common thing to have. It's just a real pain!!

I too, have been having the same thing, right ovary and all. Normally about 7-10 days before my period when I start spotting in week 3 of my bc pill. All very frustrating and been happening since April. I had my annual gyno exam (including a vaginal ultrasound to check on a pea size fibroid) in April and all was well, so who knows. This month I have been getting low pelvic cramps & backache and MY period isn't due for 2 1/2 more weeks.

I guess its all just hormones fluctuating around, other women I know in the same age group have gotten the same thing. I will be 42 on Wed.
Just try to relax first of all. My mind goes a wondering & spinning when it happens thats for sure.
Motrin/Aleve takes the edge off, and use a heating pad...somedays its my best buddy!!!!

We are here for you, you will be fine!!!!!!!!

Thanks.I did a litle research last night and found that my symptoms go right along with ovulation and cysts. My Dr believes I may have PCOS anyway,so I am going to try and not worry about it.I do hope it goes away soon.Have a great day ladies and GOD bless

Glad you are feeling a little more relaxed about it now. That ovulation pain can be brutal, mine used to be worse than menstral cramps by far! I would feel better only if I layed down and was very still. If I sat or moved it was extremely painful. Luckily it only ever lasted for 24 hours. It is quite unusual to ovulate while on BCPs however. The pill is used to prevent ovulation, thus preventing pregnancy. You better practice another form of birth control or you might end up with a surprise!!! blink.gif ohmy.gif huh.gif

I thought about that today.I am still pretty young(32)so I wouldn't be too mad about a baby-but I am not going to take the chance!!The funny thing is I only do this every few months, and this time it was more noticable.I read online that the lower doses of bcp sometimes allow ovulation,so I will definately be careful.Thanks-GOD-bless

Hello,
I have been on bcp;s for a year now, the tri-cycle kind and it seems that the last two-three weeks before the placebo week, i bleed every day, not heavy but enough for a pad, I get cramps and all the pms stuff. I had day one of the placebo yesterday and bled like i did as a teen. the pain was awful for about 45 minutes, then thankfully subsided. I do spot on and off too. My doctor said it's normal, but I am doing a hormone test at the end of the week to see if I need a differnt pill. I was told the pill helps to balance us, but nothing can completely override all the fluctuations our bodies go through.

Feel better.
