Hi all - My main symptom for the past year is this darned constant nausea(feels like morning sickness, but last all day sometimes, occasionally eases up in evening) - followed by insomnia, night sweats, lethargy, some anxiety(especially about health), occasional lightheaded/shaky feeling. I'm 51 and have had 3 periods in the past 12 months (April, May and Sept.). They are short - agout 2-3 days. The only med. I'm on is Zegerid for acid reflux. I was in great health until 1 year ago. Now I feel rotten most of the time. I've had a thorough GI workup with lots of tests top to bottom! Everything came out OK, except the acid reflux. I've also had bloodwork that came out OK, including TSH. I'm going to OB/GYN next week to discuss options. Give me some suggestions, PLEASE?

Hi ScienceLady,

I had really bad nausea everytime I would have a hot flash until I went on HRT so yes.. in my case it helped. I still get hot flashes occasionaly even while taking HRT but the nausea is gone. I was also getting quite anxious, usually while driving or staying alone at night and this eased up with HRT as well. What's really helped my lethargy (I beleive) is a combination of the estradiol and testosterone. It's really helped. It's taken a long long Long time for me to finally say that I feel well enough to enjoy life now. Im still not where I was before peri.. and I would like to think I could still one day get back to that feel good level .. but if not, I'm grateful to be out of the fog.. and I can be satisfied with where I am right now.

My suggestions would to (at first) ask for your hormones to be individually dosed. It's so much easier to get them balanced this way. Take the E & T in the morning (for energy) and the P at night (helps to sleep).

good look and keep us informed,

Hi Carol - Thanks so much for your reply. You and the others are what keeps the rest of us going with your encouragement. I just can't believe that I felt so good for 50 years and then, bam, the last year of my life has been miserable 80% of the time. Hormones are so powerful. I almost cried when I got my period last week - I hadn't had one since May and was HOPING to be done with it so that I can move on. Every once in awhile ( and I mean, like, once a month) I get a day when I feel like my old self. It's amazing - my appetite and energy comes back, the nausea goes, I sleep well for a night, I am happy and confident. Then the next day, it is all gone. If HRT will help me out, then I'm caving and going for it. How long did you suffer? Are you through peri- yet?

Dear Science Lady
Like Carol I too found that HRT deals with a lot of my symptoms although I too will get occasional hot flashes still. When I feel nauseous what really helps is slowly sipping a glass of hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice.I got this tip on the Forum and it really helps..

Friend, taking HRT does not mean you are caving in but just being pro-active about helping yourself through a difficult transition.

Each person will experience Menopause differently but having been on this Round About from age of 39 and I am now fifty seven yes it does get better.I definitely am much more aware of healthy eating and exercising well. Also coming often to this Forum is the best medicine

Hi there, yes it worked for me - not 100% gone but only get it now and then and bearable!

Worked for other things too but not the anxiety aspect although that seems much better now time has passed.

Good luck

I just started on BCP this week and I think it has given me nausea. I take it first thing in the morning and thought this may be from taking it on an empty stomach. Anyone else notice nausea coming on with BCP? Glad to know that symptoms will lessen on it, that's what I'm hoping for. I've gone a year without any help and finally felt I needed to do something. Although my worst symptom is anxiety and am sad to learn it might not help with that.

Dear Ladies

Thank God for this site. I get to be almost at my wit's end with the symptoms of meno. Tonight the nausea feeling came on me. Felt so queezy. Have had this off and on over the last few years! It is so trying. Then I come to the Board and am so comforted by reading the posts on this subject, I dont feel so alone. Very nearly stuck one of the oestrogen patches on that I had in my drawer as it had given me relief from the nausea in the past but have had to come of HRT before because of side-effects. Cant face going on and off it, this is such a bumpy ride it is hard to hold on to that person I used to be when I had a life free from all of this. God bless you all for your caring attitude. There must be an end to all of this.

Dear Simba2
Yes,there is definite an end to all this.I remember when first taking HRT that it took about five weeks to really kick in and work and when that happened a lot of annoying side effects went too.For the nausea, would sip a glass of hot water with a little lemon juice and it really helped

As noted, nausea can be caused by anxiety and Zanax ,taken as needed,is very effective.I hardly ever need it now but always have it handy if situation is very tense. So don't worry about becoming dependent. Most people do not up the dose and find that they can regulate as needed.

Try to cut out all refined sugars as well as caffeine ,chocolate, sodas etc as they can up the jitters.Substitute fresh squeezed juices, ginger ale, herbal Teas and plain water. That doesn't mean you can't have the occasional treat!

Wish you better health
Keep us posted,dear friend
Love and God Bless You
