Hi Ladies!
I posted several days ago about all my peri crap and apparently it might have been a bit overwhelming!! I appreciate those that responded, but if anyone else has insight, I would appreciate it!!

I've had more blood work done and have to go back in a few days for a recheck. Dr. said my FSH was 6.3, which he said was normal, I don't really know what that means!! My electrolytes are low and that what he wants to recheck. I asked him what that meant and he said it was out of his area of expertise. Anybody know??

Also, had terrible tooth/jaw/gum pain all weekend. Went to the dentist and he checked and did x-rays and couldn't find anything wrong!! Could it be TMJ?? Anybody else have this problem?? All I can do is take ibuprofen and put on orajel!!

BUT, the problem that I'm wondering about mostly now is that the past few weeks, I have not been able to barely eat!! Is this yet another peri thing??? I've been living on crackers, toast, small bowls of cereal, pretzels and occasionally something else. I can't think of anything I think I could eat, but I feel hungry, but when I start eating, it's like I can only eat a little. A lot makes me sick on my stomach. I told the doc it reminded me of morning sickness!! ANYBODY ELSE have this or am I really crazy????

NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT LADIES!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe!

You poor dear, I am sorry you are going thru such a difficult time. I will help if I can.

FSH...Follicle Stimulating Hormone. This hormones is released to cause you to ovulate, so when the number is low, as yours is, it suggests you are still ovulating normally. when the number gets higher and higher it means your ovaries are not working properly, but your body is still trying to make it work. My FSH was 56 last time it was tested and I had not had a period for 6 months then, and have not had another one since.

I am not sure why your electrolytes are low, but drinking some gaterade could help put electrolytes back into your body. If you aren't drinking enough water, or are drinking too much water electrolytes can go out of balance. It also has some to do with salt intake...I am not sure how it all works. Gatorade!!

Now the not eating issue. When my hormones went south, I stopped eating for a few months. I dropped 25 pounds very quickly. It was horrible. I would think I was hungry, then after a couple of bites, it was like I was gonna gag on it. I went for yogurt, pudding, Ensure and Boost drinks (cuz I needed some nutrition in my body!). I was put on meds to get me out of my hormonal crash and my appetite returned with a vengence and I gained 31 pounds, even though I had only lost 25!! Now I am battling the bugle again...sheesh!!

Big stress/anxiety can cause you to loose your appetite. I wonder if you aren't suffering from anxiety? And a normal FSH reading does NOT mean you can't be suffering from perimenopause! Educate yourself, that is the best...read read read!! I know more about menopause now, than my doctor does...and he even admits it!! But it makes him very receptive to trying out my ideas.

I had a similar problem, I found this site a week ago and started on vitamins and magnesium 1000mg ( four 250 mg tablets per day) and a B Complex.....I feel so much better in just a few days. Go to the main part of the site where it says what vitamins you should take and read it. I never thought I needed vitamins before. Then google magnesium deficiency and boy I found out so much...my stomach felt exactly like when I was pregnant...but not any more...it was huge too, and I could not **** it in. Also I started the flaxseeds and soy and my skin has already started to look better and is not so dry or thin....Feel better soon.

Stress, anxiety, hormones, or lack of, can do some pretty strange things to your body.

I did the same thing for an entire month or more. Was nauseated constantly and even when I wasnt nauseated I had no appetite at all. I was not able to eat anything. I was doing good to force a few crackers down, but that was it.

It finally subsided. Don't know exactly when or why. May have been when I decided to make some drastic changes in my life. As hard as they were to make I decided my health was more important to me than all the stress.

I hope you find the relief you need and very soon.

Best wishes,

bev

Wow...it really seems like our bodies mimick the symptoms of early pregnancy, doesn't it? I too, have had constant problems with nausea and appetite since menopause started. I pretty much wake up every morning feeling like I'm going to throw up. I take promethazine (phenergan) almost daily to combat it.

When I first started peri, I gained about 20-25 pounds. Then I got diagnosed with thryoid disease and was put on synthroid. Almost at the same time, my periods stopped completely.

My body is slowly going post...and I'm taking off weight very gradually. I've lost at 11 pounds...and I"m not trying to diet at all (I don't think I could bear to deprive myself right now...too much other stress going on.)

I've talked to a number of older women and they tell me this is typical...you gain weight in peri, and then you slowly lose it in once you are firmly post. If you were always thin before menopause, you'll probably return to your normal size once the hormones wars settle down.

I never had a weight problem before...in fact, I had an eating disorder in high school and was always on the slim side. Then peri hit, and wham! I had this big stomach and rolls of fat on my mid section. Now I can feel my normal body emerging once again. But I don't think I'll even have the appetite I did in my twenties and thirties. Food easily makes me sick.

Hi all - I'm new here, but am going through the nausea/no appetite/feels like morning sickness thing, too. I'm 51 and have had it for about a year. My Dr. diagnosed me with GERD so I've been on Zegerid for that. It reduced the nausea by about 20%. When all this started a year ago, I never connected it to perimenopause. Now, that I've developed other symptoms (anxiety, trouble sleeping, dizziness at times, night sweats, only 3 periods in the past year) , I'm finally connecting the dots. The anxiety makes the stomach issues worse. I make myself eat because I know I need to, but I don't usually want to. A glass of wine before dinner helps stimilate my appetite sometimes. I've got an appt. with my OB/GYN in a couple of weeks to discuss this. I'm at wits end and need some help - maybe anti anxiety med? I've a always had my act together and never had any health issues until the past year, now my body has turned on me. Can anyone tell me that I'll ever feel good again?

I think the sugar in wine raises the insulin levels making us hungry. I read that, but not sure if it's true. Will you ever feel good again?? Yes.. just hang in there!! Take it day by day, or minute by minute. I started feeling better so slowly, that it took months before I even recognized I was feeling better. It will be a year in Oct since my last period. Each month gets better. But it is a slow haul!! HANG IN THERE!!

Absolutely the same symptoms and I am 5 years post. Just had check ups - doctor and dentist and there is "nothing wrong" rolleyes.gif except like you I have jaw/mouth pain and nausea -- and the occasional muscle spasm in my back.

I have decided that these are all caused by stress and am going to the acupuncturist tomorrow.

I keep telling myself "This, too, shall pass.." laugh.gif

Hang in there. I know I don't have any great advice, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the planet going through this stuff, so perhaps it's some consolation to know that you're not going crazy and you're not alone.

Regarding GERD, I had that too and I got much relief by losing weight. Of course that's not a solution if you are already at or near your ideal weight, but I had gained a lot of weight in my early-to-mid peri years and I am still trying to take it all off. I took off 20 and got almost total relief from the GERD.

It could be due to anxiety. Whenever mine gets out of control I feel this way. Xanax always helps jumpstart my appetite and settle my stomach. You may want to talk to your doctor about it. It just may help get you over this difficult hormonal time.
