Five days ago I was diagnosed with a uti - I hadn't had one in about 20 years. The doctor put me on Cipro and, right away, the pain upon urination went away, but my vaginal area still feels somewhat irritated and inflamed. It feels somewhat like it did several months ago when I went to my gynecologist thinking I had a uti but none was found.

Have any of you had a higher incidence of utis with peri? Also, what could this inflammation/irritation be from?

I jsut had my first one in years and years two weeks ago and after the three days I felt fine, then, I started feeling funny again and on day 10 of the antibiotics I went back to the doctor who said I was fine. About a day or two later it was better. I think it takes longer to have those feelings go away. I felt more irritated longer than ever before. I drank alot of cranberry juice and water. Good luck and feel good.

Good Morning,
Yes, during peri. it does occur more often. I've had it more often over the last year. For me, it triggers after sex sad.gif . The Dr. said because that area is drying, and during intercourse, the rubbing inflames the urinary tract...Even though I lubricate before and during sex, it can still be inflammed - Oy Vey - guess I'll need more lubicration then what I've used.

What does help also is to urinate before...and after sex.

Also - my family Dr. said, the antibiotic I take during the UTI - what can be used as a preventor is one antibiotic pill after sex. I haven't done that yet - but I will. Take care.

THe irriration is likely due to vaginal and labial dryness. I have experienced it myself and it's not fun at all! Be sure if you drink cranberry juice it's 100% juice .. any of the "cranberry juice coctail" drinks that are sold have a ton of sugar in them and that just aggravates the infection and infection potential.

Mine too is triggered by sex - again, the dryness. Hang in there! kathleent
