About two years ago, I started having noticeable palpitations on a very random basis. It scared me so the doc ordered the EKGs and holter monitor- all normal. They came and went but have recently morphed into something else. I have a fluttering, trembling and sometimes skipping sensation in my chest that comes and goes. Sometimes it is especially strong and I will actually feel a tightness in my neck with each skipped beat. This causes a great amount of anxiety because I don't know what it is going on. I have read here often about how heart things like this are "normal" for peri but would feel better if I knew others experience this particular sensation. For some reason, it does seem worse right after eating and in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this?

Oh yes, I have exactly what you described!...Sometimes the breathing method helps..and most times not....I try to wait it out as much as possible...if it doesn't go away within a few hours, I HAVE to take an ativan!!....which makes it all go away *sigh*

FYI- I hate taking any type of meds...but this perimeno...man, I'd eat poooooop if I thought it would make me feel better than I feel!!

Hoping you feel better soon!

I am having a bad day of palps plus I have a pinched nerve so I am feeling lots of weird arm things (between the palps and the tingling in my arm, I am sure I am having a stroke....of course I have been feeling this way for weeks and have had many tests all of which are normal!)

Helen I laughed at your response. I too would eat doody if it took away these symptoms.

As for pain associated with the palps...for the first couple of years I was getting the palps, there was a tightening/pain like symptom in my chest. Many ER visits and EKGs later, the pains have subsided but the palps are in overdrive.

I have started taking magnesium. I was bad with my coffee today so I am paying for it. I will probably talk a half a lorazepam tonight to keep my anxiety at bay.

Like Helen, I am not a medication taker so I keep forgetting to take some of the supplements I need to take. Of course, I am probably forgetting ebcause I have meno brain LOL!

Join the party and try not to stress. I know that is easier said than done.

Hi! You are not alone and no you are absolutely NOT going crazy. I have them too. The exact description. THey usually occur in the middle of the night or right before I go to sleep. It is like an internal shaking like I am frightened by something. What a head trip all these symptoms are. It seems you never know what is going to hit you next. I thought I was the only one having these feelings.

The heart palps are one of the most annoying part of the whole menopause cycle beside anxiety. It lets you know you have an heart and you only have one. Usually when it happens, I begin an internal panic where my body starts to prepare for trama. I have to mentally go into meditation to tell my brain that it is only palps and to relax instead of going into a anxiety panic attack. That usually stops the cycle right in its tracks. Try meditation techniques to ward off worrying about symptoms when they strike. Also 250mg to 500mg magnesium plus multivitamins with B12, calcium, omega 3, seems to help also. I am trying to go through this without meds. It is very difficult to say the least. I am trying to watch diet, absolutely no caffeine, lots of rest, exercise and pampering. Hang in there!

I feel the same way. My palps seem to be related to stomach issues. When my stomach acts up, I get tightness and pals then start burping. Last night it was so uncomfortable I thought for sure I would end up in the er. I finally took a xanax and went to bed sleeping pretty good. I woke up feeling anxious so who knows what's in store for today. I hope it subsides for all of us.

I have been having quite a few more hot flashes this month and skipped, fluttery beats. Last year I had lots and found acupuncture was really successful in treating this annoying symptom of perimenopause. They are especially noticeable at around 4:00 in the morning which is the time I wake up.
They do not really worry me anymore, but I agree can send you into a bit of a panic if you have not had them before, of have gone a long time without them

I would suggest that you might like to track your symptoms with a perimenopause chart, that way you will have a better idea of when they are occurring and can use this info to show your doctor if you are concerned.

Hope that helps
