I am currently taking 2 50mg progesterone capsules at bedtime. It is quite expensive and my insurance won't pay anything on it. I can get a month's supply of prometrium for a $10 copay - which is much cheaper. I know Prometrium is bioidentical so what is the difference in that and my compounded stuff?
Thanks for any info!

Prometirum is the same bioidentical micronized progesterone in peanut oil caps, the minimum dose is 100mg. if you take 2x50 compounded at bed ( I assume oral caps, not sublingual), it would be the same and you save on cost.
The compounded stuff is made with the same micronized bioidentical progesterone, but it is compounded with different filler by the pharmacy.
Difference is that Prometrium does not come in 50mg dose, as most drs. believe for oral caps it has to be 100mg to get sufficient progesterone upon it is metabolized, so Solvay Pharamaceutical does not bother with smaller dose, it comes in 100 or 200 mg doses.
I would say, for oral delivery system, prometrium is as good as compounded, I used both and side effects were the same, so I assume both do the job. Try Prometrium for a month and see if it works for you, be weary, the cap contains peanut oil, in casw you have allergy.
