HI GIRLS.....

ok this is awful! this started about 3 days ago, and last night was the worst...i am 10 days away from my period, and that's if it comes on time.....recently, over the last few months, it's been coming a few weeks "late', so, who knows. But, I feel terribly PMSy....very heavy lower abdomen, lousy achey ovaries, that sort of pre-period "grinding" and "churning" in the lower abdomen above the pubic hair line ..... now, i'm used to all that, but NOW we seem to have added this awful lower back pain! I've had some back pain in the past, over the years, but very little, and I could feel it was from the build up of the period coming.
This, however, is weird. It is in the small of your back, maybe a little lower really, like where your dimples are ..... it's on the left (naturally) side of my spine but sometimes on the right too, and the newest feeling is sort of a burning feeling, all along that lower back area, from the left side of the spine, to the right! I can't lay flat on my back, bec. it starts it up. I have rubbed BEN GAY on this till I"m turning blue! It helps a little! Now, i've taken 2 advil gel caps, and it does help, but not completley. I took my old standby, xanax...which at least will take some of the anxiety of it away, and hopefully will relax the muslces!
I have had my husb. rub my back down there, which in a way, doesn't really help all that much, I lay on my side, so i can have the hair dryer blow hot air on that area of my back, bec. the heating pad just doens't do it. DARN! this is really bad! I guess it worries me, ONLY BEC. I've never really had it this bad!

has anyone here had it like this? I need a little support, so I don't get to nervous!

thanks guys! HUGS!

i never did associate any of my back pain with a period when i had them.. but any back pain at all has me going to a chiropractor to make sure all is ok, or he can adjust things if not.. and sometimes the massage he gives me before adjustments helped more than anything else.. also, i use a wheat bag, those things that heat up in the microwave, and either mash it between me and the back of a chair, or lie down on it.. i find that very helpful! smile.gif good luck...

Yes, mydarling, I have had the lower back AND abdominal, pelvic pain for months now. It starts about a week before my period begins and at it's worst has felt like hard labor pains that lasted about a week.

I have had all the tests. Dr.s found NOTHING!

Seems to have eased some since my gyn started me on the bcp.

It's the not knowing that is so difficult!

I would definitely have it checked out.

Best to be safe than sorry, don't you think?

Be well,

bev

thanks girls! how about burning? i know that sounds funny, but my lower back, from time to time, feels as if it's "burning"....right at the same place where the ache is .... i know burning is muscular, but this is so weird, this is such a "weird" burning sensation. Yeah, it's in the front by the lower abdomen too, which for me is that pre-period junk! I took another advil gel cap a little while ago,...listen, when this happens to you, does Advil or any form of painkiller help? This helps, somewhat...not completley.

It sounds like you might have a pinched nerve or a little inflammation due to stressing that area somehow. If that is the case I have found that Aleve works wonders. Also, pinched nerves usually just work themselves out. I know when I have a little pinch, if my hubbie rubs where it is hurting it helps while he is doing it then it gets even worse. Also, you might just have some inflammation in there and if you are putting heat on that it will make it worse. Try ice instead and see if that relives some of the pain.

My Darling I have had the lower back pain so bad at times I could barely get out of the bed.... It seems to come in spurts I will have it for a while and then it mysteriously goes away like everything else during this phase of our lives.... I elevate my legs and use heat and ice which seems to help and take ibuprofren for a few days to help induce any inflammation that may be in the muscles...

Hugs Darling Its all part of this wonderful journey

I worked in a urology clinic about 18 years ago--gads--where did all the time go---and one of the docs there told female patients that we have many hormonal receptors in that area, so it is "normal" to have pain in the front and the back with diminished hormonal levels. I have had the burning pain also in that area. And, yep, the same thing happens when that area of my back gets rubbed--briefly better then bam!!! Makes it rough cause I can't sleep on my sides as it makes the palps worse, and definitely forget sleeping on the stomach as that makes the palps even worse than sleeping on my sides. Also, can't tolerate many pain relievers as they also make the palps worse. Rubbing any kind of a rub now gives me flaming hot flashes and also sets off the nerves so then here comes the panic attacks, too. I hope and pray you all have better luck with remedies for this back pain than I have had. dry.gif

Thanks for the info!
I just wonder if there is one spot in our female bodies where it is not normal to have pain in the front and the back?
Good luck!

I have had lower back pain on and off for some time now, and got pretty well acquainted with that region. The "dimple" areas you describe sound like the SI joints, which can get pretty painful. If your pain is SI joint related, stretching and icing the area should help. My chiropractor told me that if inflammation is the cause of the pain, heat will not help.

I have pain every day in my low back/hips and buttocks as well as neck and shoulder pain. I am starting to think my pains may be due to a few years of depression and relationship issues. And that all started when my hormones started to go on vacations. I just started to think about the depression the other day. I don't lie in bed crying; I function go out take care of my son, etc. but I don't have that really happy feeling about life anymore so I'm wondering if its a functional menopausal depression that may be causing my pains. However, years ago before the peri I got at three different times in my very stressful job a burning, awful pain in the right side of my back. My doctor wouldn't give me strong pain killers and I had to suffer taking advil and crying a lot for about 3 months then it would be gone. I was in my thirties and I still had the energy to get through it and go to work every day even standing waiting forever for buses. Amazing. That was the worst pain and I was walking through it. Now these daily aches and pains have got me so down. I'm afraid to go far from home in fear a spasm will come and I won't be able to get myself and son home. Today my neck and shoulders are hurting more than my lower back, but the back still has pinges.

So that burning pain is probably a nerve. Did you suffer any excess stress where you really had your dander up for long period? All I can say is it will go away when the nerve sets back. That's the only way I can describe it b/c those three times after a several weeks I would wake up and it would be gone.

I have pretty much stopped my periods now but when I did have periods, I can remember having lower back pain everytime. It hurt in exactly the same place, the dimple area. I was told that it was because my uterus is tilted funny. They have a name for it but I forgot what it was. Before and during my period my back would hurt like crazy. When my period was finally over, my back ache went away.

I too had lower back pain--it seemed to focus in my sacrum. I started bioidentical HRT and the first thing I noticed is that the lower back pain went away.

hi ladies,

thank you all for your replies! For ME, the heat DOES help...oh yippie, finally something that actually works! I lay on my side, with the hair dryer propped up in such a way, that it blows right on the lower back area, and i have to say, it DOES help....so i don't know what that means then. But TODAY, it seems to have moved, ONCE AGAIN! now.... is now, back to the spinal cord, right where your waist is (but back on the spine) ... UGH,this stinks! I am rubbing BEN GAY on my back every few hrs. and taking little breaks to lay down, with the hair dryer. At least then, I DO feel somewhat better back there, and can go on. Yes, i know back problems can also be casued by stress, and i am ALWAYS under a lot of stress, just everything I guess.
So, yeah, that could also be a cause. There are definaley UNRESOLVED issues with some people in my life, and i've read that that alone can cause back pain. Not really surprised.

well girls.....thank you once again for all your replies! It helped to know I am not alone with this junk!

sincerely, mydarling

hello mydarling,

I suffer every day with the same thing.I am always wearing those Thermacare heatwraps whenever I go out. I also use a lot of creams and rubs. I use a Boswella rub now that is supposed to be good, but honestly they all feel about the same. Except the Capsasin that one really burns a lot and made me feel anxious. I also have had some issues with DH but I feel I have forgiven him but for some reason a lot of times even though he's just being him, I feel annoyed with him and want to be alone then that causes me stress and just taking care of my son too even though I adore him, I feel frustration, etc. and I think that and with the hormones being low causes me constant tension and pain.

I just never feel like myself. I am hoping that my next try on the BHRT with a cream this time will help. As the other poster said once she started HRT her pains went. I am praying for this because I never had these pains a few years ago, and I still had the same crazy kid and husband and I worked full time. Now I'm retired and letting stuff go and I still suffer most days.

Hope you get relief. Try the thermacare back wraps, expensive, but they help when you're walking around.
