My doctor gave me Xanax to help with my panic attacks (I'm moving with 4 teenagers in 3 weeks!) I felt ok with this since I could just take it as needed but he also gave me Zoloft. He said the Zoloft would actually help get rid of the anxiety/panic attacks but I would have to take it for at least 6 mo to a year. I'm not sure about this....my sister freaked when she first started taking Zoloft....although they started her on a huge dosage....now she swears by the stuff and couldn't function without it she says. He started me on the lowest dosage and said it might make my panic worse at first and to just take the zanax if this happens.....I've gone the natural route for 5 years now but with this move I'm feeling I need help. Any comments....I'd love to hear your experience...good or bad.
Thanks

I tried a very low dosage, I think it was 50mg. It was awful. After giving it 8 weeks, I just couldn't get over the chronic diarrhea and shaking, plus weird muscle twinges. Of course everyone is different, I couldn't tolerate Xanax either. It would calm me down quickly, but when it wore off I was worse than ever.

I had a terrible experience that I horribly regret. I posted this last month or so in this same forum. Make sure youresearch this drug, people's experiences and the withdrawals.

My doctor prescribed Zoloft for me about 9 years ago, when I was depressed after my mother's death. I tried it for two weeks, and had to discontinue it due to EXTREME bloating and diarrhea. My abdomen became so distended that my clothes would not fit. He switched me to a different AD, and I was fine after that.

That being said, I do know that Zoloft is a very effective drug, and many people have good results with it. You will just not know until you try for a couple of weeks.

Sorry I could not tell you more wink.gif

Good luck,
Di

I took half of a xanax last night which is only 12.5 mg and this morning I felt like I had been run over by a train! No energy....anxiety. Is this normal from xanax? I had a panic attack last night while I was out for a walk...very freaky.....went weak in the legs and arms....felt like I wasn't going to make it home...couldn't beathe...dizzy so I thought I'd try the xanax. It seemed to calm me down but nothing big.
I would appreciate any feedback...thanks

Hi There!

I had a HORRIBLE experience with Zoloft. I only took 25 mg. once. For several hours, I thought that was the answer! My anxiety was gone, nervousness, felt great. Was able to go outside for several hours and work in the yard. But the longer the day went, the worse I felt the anxiety, nerves, upset stomach, nauseated, felt like I had the flu, etc. I ended up in bed that evening, telling my husband that if I didn't make it I loved him - that's how bad it was!! Took an ativan to finally get calmed down and an ambien to sleep, but felt bad for days!!

Next week, doctor started me on lexapro with none of the side effects, except some sleepiness. Worked after several weeks (maybe 4) and have been taking it for about two years, along with ativan. Doesn't seem quite as effective as it used to - may need dosage change or maybe different medication.

Unfortunately, these medicines just seem to be trial and error, but just try to hang in there and tough it out with the rest of us!!

I went on Zoloft for depression. My sex drive went bye-bye and I gained weight. My depression was gone. I was on it for 3 months and started to feel depressed again and the doctor wanted to up my dosage. I decided against it. I know my depression and anxiety are from hormones and I was doing VERY well until the beginning of this summer.

You can always try it and see how it works for you and your body. Good luck!
