I'm at a loss here...today is Day 90 without a period. This is my first time skipping this long. Before, it had only been a month here or there, just twice. So this is a first! It should be..I'm 54! Ok....I was having pretty consistent hot flashes till about 3-4 weeks ago...and now NOTHING. When I had my annual gyn checkup last week, and I told him my hot flashes had abated, he said "Oh that means your period is coming!" Wellllllll....he said that on July 1? There has been no period, no hot flashes...nothing! Some days it "kind of" feels like something will start, but it doesn't. I did feel something weird the other day...twice....chills! Very brief......very weird! Now, I WAS in 113 degree temps, and had stepped into an air conditioned room....maybe my body temp is having a hard time with its "thermostat"????
I look bloated...or I've gained weight (I KNOW I've gained weight). Either way, I look pregnant;;) LOL

I was just under the impression that if my estrogen/progesterone levels are so low...low enough so I won't have a period...then I would be having other symptoms, like hot flashes??? Why has everything stopped?? Or is something about to start??

Maybe you are going to be one of those lucky ones (we all hate!! haha!! laugh.gif ) who are going to breeze through menopause!! There are some women who do that! A few hot flashes, periods just taper off....... Oh, wouldn't that be sweet if you are one of them!! I will cross my fingers that you are.

I went through something very similar last month. I had gone 72 days without a period. I had unreal hot flashes for a couple weeks in the middle of this, and then they went away. Two weeks prior to me finally getting my period, I felt bloated, crampy, and had a lot of vaginal discharge. At day 71 we went to Canada for the weekend with some friends. My friend, who owned the cottage where we were staying, told me that I couldn't "flush any tampons" in case I had my period. I was, literally, like "HA! I haven't had a period in 71 days and I doubt I'll get it now." Of course, the next morning, there it was.

Anyhow, your situation sounds very similar to mine last month. I hope you get it soon - or never again! biggrin.gif

Oh wow, I would LOVE to be one of those women who breeze thru! I don't think that will happen tho! Ha! Something tells me I'm not THAT lucky! Last summer I went thru the 2-month marathon of bleeding, then the mini D&C and biopsy, then prometrium to halt things. After that, things went pretty much back to normal (whatever that is these days;) then I just started skipping...the last 3 months. I'm sure a period will start...I trust my gyn that much when he makes comments like "oh yes, your period is going to start!" (when I told him my hot flashes had suddenly stopped). I'm not thinking "IF", I'm just wondering "WHEN"???!! Oh yeah, I'm due to leave on a vacation in mid-August. That's when it'll start of course. Going to Las Vegas..it'll start there. Maybe it will start AND stop in Vegas...kind of like the saying "What happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas"?? LOL!!!!!!!
My 83-yr old mom is visiting. She had a hysterectomy at 47, went thru surgical meno. Remembers nothing related to meno except maybe a couple of hot flashes. How could she not remember anything? She pooh-poohs all of this. She gets MAD at me when I bring it up, and tells me to quit talking about hormones (in my mind, excess of, or lack of, hormones--explains everything going on in the world! Ha ha!) But she doesn't think it should be talked about!! What IS it with this???????
She took Premarin for 30+ years because she was told that it would "make her feel REALLY good" and she never even really knew what it was, I don't think..not fully, at least.

Hi,

This happens to me all the time. I go a few months ( maybe 2 or 3 months) with nothing. Hot flashes and nights sweats so bad I don't think I can take it anymore. Suddenly they disappear for a few weeks, I get bloated, breast pain and then the period starts. In fact, I just skipped 2 months...I didn't get any of the hot flashes or night sweats so I knew it was coming back. Sure enough it showed up 2 days ago. This has been going on for 3 years. I have had enough but I guess I don't have a choice. When the period shows up, I have such a feeling of relief knowing that I will feel OK for atleast a little while.

Thanks for all the replies. Its so good to know others are in the same boat;) Actually, I feel good that it started. I knew it would I think...deep down. Especially after hearing my doctor say it would. I KNEW something had to be up with the disappearing hot flashes! Then this bloating...and yes, I had the breast pain too during the last few weeks.
I just hope this is a normal cycle..nothing crazy...don't need that now!

After I started my day-72 period, I was expecting it to be like to opening of the Hoover Dam. Instead, it was a completely "normal" cycle, both in flow and duration. Good luck!

Oh my goodness....hang in there! Here's to hoping its VERY short in duration and nothing horrible! Isn't this always the way it goes though? mad.gif So far, mine seems normal...at least I'm not just spotting like last summer that went on forever. It just better stop before MY vacation!

Today I'm HAPPY to announce that it has been 5 months since my last period. (shhhh...I'm afraid if I say anything it will start again! dry.gif ) I had two days of really light, brown discharge in April and nothing since. Some days I feel terribly bloated and ugly as all get out, still get migraines (although a lot less severe than when I was bleeding) and I notice I'm hotter than normal. I'll be 49 in September. My cousin stopped her periods around the same time as me, so I'm hoping but NOT counting on being over this mess. It was far from a breeze for me, however, as I started peri at 38 or 39 (who's counting?? tongue.gif ) and it was a journey of misery the majority of the time. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and enjoy every bit of this 'absence' of blood. GOSH it seems nice!!!! IF I do get a period in the future (near or far) I'm sure everyone will hear me scream from here (Maine) to the California coast!!!!
Hang in there girls. There has to be an end in sight!
Hugs, Kleeo
