I have an incredible burning, aching and stinging in my *bad* breast. Was never so intense before. Dr. has sent me pain med script.
No time for ultrasound...I fly off for vacation for the month on Monday. Said I should come in after the vacation.
I have my period if that means anything.
I feel my lumps are much larger than they normally are.
Any advice??!?!

Well I am sure all of us would tell you to try and enjoy your vacation and deal with the other when you get back, but that is easier said than done.

I have fybrocystic breasts, one worse than the other. I am 41 and started having problems with them probably around 32ish mildly and took vit. E at it worked.

Somewhere around 37 they went from mild before a period to swollen, hard and so painful all month long...I mean I couldn't be hugged or touched most of the month. The lumps were pretty large(sometimes feeling, like it enveloped my whole breast) and very hard and irregular in shape and the pain would radiate to other areas and I found it difficult to take my bra off because it removed the support ... I am small chested so this didn't make sense to me, but I think just the slightest bit of movement hurt. Sometimes they would throb and pulsate when I got up. I had a ultrasound and mammogram and it was fine. That went on for 2 or so years until about 2 years ago and it pretty much abruptly stopped and my flashes began. I get sore now every now and then, but it is very mild compared to before and doesn't last as long...just some tenderness underneath.

Chances are everything is fine and like for me it is a sign of peri. Don't let this steal the moment from you...Enjoy your time with your family...you can handle this later. HUGS Mikki

Hopefully it'll subside after your period.

I too have had one breast giving trouble - I've been having mammograms at intervals for years. When I still had regular periods my breasts were sometimes so painful before periods I'd be convinced I was pregnant! I too know the feeling of taking off your bra and it hurting as the support's removed, also having difficulty lying on them when sleeping. All of this subsided as my periods became infrequent.

Even now that I haven't had a period for eight months however I've still from time to time had some odd but different sensations from that breast - sharp pains - which really worried me at the time. Yet I've had a mammogram recently and there's nothing of any concern. Although I'm not having periods I think I get a ghost cycle sometimes. The pains went away again and as I say, a recent mammogram showed no problem.

Try to just enjoy your holiday and not to worry. I think the hormonal fluctuations of this time do sometimes cause some odd effects.

You poor thing. Thats just what you want when you are about to go away on holiday! ohmy.gif
The pain from fibrocystic breasts is most usually caused by hormones behaving badly so try not to let the worry ruin your vacation. keeping yourself as comfortable as possible with good support and analgesia will be really important until those darn hormones stop behaving badly. I have perfectly normal breasts but in the months preceding shut down I developed fierce breast pain.... so bad that I couldn't bear anyone to come near me. Now if that happens with a normal breast what is that kind of hormonal upheaval going to do to someone with breasts prone to fibrocystic tendencies? Go figure.......

Wishing you a lovely holiday! cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif

Sorry to hear you're having pain.

Try cutting out all caffeine. I found during a flare up of fibrocystic problems if I laid off caffeine and chocolate they seemed to improve.

Thank you, thank you thank you!!!!!!!
I have Ponston perscribed today from the Hospital but took a midol instead. I've had a stomach virus as well and don't tolerate Ponston to begin with. A bunch of lesser of 2 evils at the moment.
The stinging has subsided but the burning is just plain annoying.
You are right....my breast feels like 3 huge masses right now. My right one is fine. We just decided in February to stop the 6 month US and just go with a once a year us/mammo. After 4 years and a few biopsies they felt all was safe. When I go back in August for this, that puts me right back at the 6 month mark.
I honestly don't trust this left breast of mine.
Now....time for a deep breath, a good nights sleep and focus on getting packed.
This has been my worst breast month ever by far. Maybe the subconsious stress of this trip has gotten to me. I really think this will be the last big one. Traveling with my teenager and my 11 year old twins for 4.5 weeks isn't as easy as it was in the years before. Everyone has demands and expectations.
I'm sure my mind set will turn for the better when we board that plane!!!!!!!
Notebook comes with me so I'll see you in the summer :-)
Thanks all....Happy 4th weekend to you!
