Hi everyone

Was just wondering if anyone knows how many months? years? do these hot flashes go on for? or am I asking the impossible question?

Mine started about 4 years ago, firstly in small groups of a couple of weeks, then I would be okay for a few weeks, but the last 2 years they have been continuous, all day , every day and at night.

One day this week for the first time in 2 years , I don't think I got one ohmy.gif but they returned the next day with vengence. mad.gif
Thought maybe they just might be finishing.
I can't find any info on this at all.

Other symptoms seem to be waning....please oh please!!! let it be so. smile.gif

Oh Caroline,
I just don't think that anyone knows. During the second half of this week mine got less and I thought that maybe I was getting through all this but today has been just awful. There is no doubt that when the hot flashes keep coming in quick succession, I feel like a car whose tank has been filled with treacle instead of petrol. I just cannot get on with work properly. I have started to experience diffuse pins and needles in all my limbs and they are definitely related to the hot flashes. I have had to dispense with my quilt completely. If I didn't, I think that I would drown in my own sweat. Like you, I just need some peace.....

Kindest regards,

Caroline,
I can remember when my MIL was in her early 70's and complaining that she was still having hot flashes. Gee, I don't know when they stop. For her I think they never stopped. I have heard other much older ladies complaining of hot flashes. I really hope I see an end to these hot flashes too. They give me insomnia at night. I can't go to sleep until I cool down. Then I get too cold, only to get too hot again. Back and forth, back and forth. UGH!!

I hate to tell you girls, but I just turned 61 and still get them, especially in the summer with the heat. thats why I try to stay in the a/c as much as possiable. I had a complete hysterectomy in 1994 at 47 and thought I would be finished by now, no such luck. I carry a portable fan with me wherever I go.
Any older ladies out there still getting hot flushes?

I think that I probably expect to get the odd hot flash for the rest of my life but I am struggling with hot flashes every few minutes which can amount to many hundreds per day. I am suffering from exhaustion because of the frequency. I just need it to slow down a bit!

Ladies

Last year I suffered with very bad hot flushes and I found very good relief from acupuncture.
In fact the acupuncture was very good at balancing many of my symptoms

Best of luck

I hate to be discouraging to the woman who initially posted this question, but I have had SEVERE hot flashes all day and all night for TEN YEARS, and they are not yet subsiding AT ALL.

I went into menopause very young, though, and perhaps this has something to do with the problem.

Peace,

J

No I'm not really, I've got to live in hope I suppose. Thanks all, wink.gif

Caroline - I hadn't had a hot flash in several months and this morning I had one after another every 3 minutes or so literally between 4:45 and 6:00 AM. Like the rest of this journey - it ain't over till it's over - gives a new meaning to the term "hottie". OY!

After many, many months without hotflashes laugh.gif and drenching sweats... for the last couple of weeks I've been having what appears to be continual hot flashes dry.gif . I'm back to flip flopping huh.gif in the bed at nights because of the flashes and sweats...hot, cold, hot, cold...under the sheets then on top of the sheets. It has been awhile since I've gone through this so I figure that something must have changed hormonally dry.gif . All that I can do is patiently wait for this to pass. I thought about increasing my compounded hormones...but I'll just wait smile.gif with my ice cold drinks, fan, cotton undies and paper towels laugh.gif.

oops, I forgot to add that my mother is in her 60's and she's never complained about hot flashes. She said that she did experience then for a while...I guess back in her 40's for now she's hot flash free. Lord, let me have her dna when it comes to these hot flashes....I'm ready to be rid of them.

Hi, Everyone! I started peri when I was about 42 and will be 60 next month. Still have some horrendus hot flashes, sometimes just warmings, plus a myraid of other symptoms which have lessened somewhat. dry.gif Hot flashes are still set off by hot weather, spicy foods, hot or cold beverages, etc. Just wanted to add my answer to the question.

post for just over a year now, my hot flashes were driving me crazy!! even in winter, i was having more hot spells than normal times.. i started taking Blackmore's Phytolife, and also Evening Primrose Oil, and now i only have the odd flash every so often.. the flashes and night sweats are less frequent and less intense.. might be worth trying? smile.gif
Carolineuk
Thanks again everyone and Zen,
I will make a note of those for future reference because
I would say mine are easing slightly but I am being cautious, not to get too excited, it might set one off. smile.gif
