I do have TMJ but this is different.

My teeth hurt when I chew and also for some time after eating. I do not have the best teeth by any mean but this is a new problem for me. It does not seem to matter what I eat or when.

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have an extreme aversion to the dentist due to previous horrible situations. But if this is a problem with my teeth and not peri, I will go but it will be under duress.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks a ton and hugs to you all,
Jeaninne

I was diagnosed with TMJ a couple of years ago. I have had tooth pain on and off the entire time. Most of the time it is because my bite is off and too much pressure is being put on a particular tooth. In the early days, it was generalized aching in my upper left molars. It is my left TMJ that is messed up. Most recently, it has been tooth #19, hurting with any bite pressure for nearly a year now. My dentist keeps filing it down, but it does not help. I'm afraid I am headed for a root canal. I suggest you find a good dentist with some knowledge of TMJ. You can check out the Pankey Institute (that is where my dentist was trained) where you can get the name of a Pankey trained dentist in your area. Another option is a neuromuscular dentist, just google that term with the name of your town and state and you should come up with some hits. I can tell you from experience, I am the biggest dental phobic on earth and having my TMJ treated is nothing like regular dental treatment. It is almost more orthopedic in nature. I really like and trust my dentist, and no longer have dental phobia when I see him. Just find a really good TMJ dentist that will include you in the treatment planning. Look for someone who will treat with you, not to you. They can do wonders.
