Hi All, first let me say this is such a great sight and I visit it everyday and sometimes 2 and 3 times a day... I was just wondering if anyone on this sight is taking DOXIPEN and if they are having the weight gain with it.. I was presccribed it a few weeks ago and so far after 3 weeks I have gained 4 lbs and I am thinking about not taking them anymore for I have just worked so hard to lose 22 lbs and I don't want the weight gain back.. Any advice on what I should do, the weight gain is really bothering me.. Thanks to all and again this is such a great sight and all the advice and help has been one of the best things in my life so far and has kept my head above water.. A BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am another who lost a ton of weight from the horrors of menopausal anxiety, and started Paxil, and have gained most of it (if not all, I am afraid to get on the scale) back again. If you are really concerned about the weight gain, talk to your doctor about changing your meds. You should NEVER go off an AD cold turkey. And there must have been a reason you started taking the AD in the first place? I totally agree with Lizardlover...better to be fat and happy, than skinny and miserable.
I find my appetite is huge these days. I need to find a way to control it. I am not willing to give up the AD just yet.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do!

I am also taking Doxepin and have been for 17 months now. I am only on a very low dose but have put all the weight back on that I lost before going on it. When the anxiety and hormone hell struck me head on I lost a lot of weight but as soon as I started the Doxepin I started to gain it all back. I have noticed a few other things that I'm not sure are related to the Doxepin or not, like a feeling of having leg edema (i.e tightness of skin when squatting down in calf area) and constipation on and off, it's off now cos the anxiety is back

. I want to wean off but as I'm taking the lowest dose capsule (10mgs) they make it is going to be hard for me to do. I'm going to open the capsule and tip some out each night till I feel I can skip a night and so on. Even though you have only been on it a short time don't stop cold turkey incase you get some withdrawal symptoms. I found it made me crave sugary stuff and I have never really had a sweet tooth until now.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress with it or without it

Thanks guys for the responses, but I am so confused about this. I have one doctor telling me to lose weight and have another doctor giving me an anti that puts weight on, so what do I do??? Being in the state we are in, we don't realy need anything else to confuse us.. lol Oh well, this is a decision I will have to talk to both dr.'s about and see what they can do for me, the crawlies are driving me crazy....OHHHH What to do??

Sigh.............
I was on paxil for 12 years. I gained 50 lbs. (i'm 51 now)
i weaned myself off of paxil about 5 months ago, and i am so severely depressed, i am going back on 10mgs of it.
But i lost about 15 lbs in the past three months, after being off the Paxl, but i feel so severely depressed, i can't take it any longer. I have a husband that loves me NO MATTER
WHAT. We've been married 29 years, and i know he doesn't know what to do when i feel like this.....................but at least he's there.
I think that yes, it slows our metabolism, and stokes our appetite.
I craved margaritas when i was on paxil and i'm NOT A DRINKER, but it was common for me to have about three a week, while out to dinner with friends or hubby.
Don't worry about the weight.
One of my tricks is to use self tanner. That makes you look great, and it knocks off about ten lbs i swear. My favorite is the spray tan booths (just hold your breath....)
Everyone looks good with a healthy glow, and when we women are struggling with weight gain, i swear being tan really makes you look and feel great. Just don't lay out in the sun
or go into a tanning booth.
This i have found is a really good self esteem booster.
